Today i wanted to show you a project i might be working on in the upcoming weeks which is gonna be my third custom hearthstone expansion. You might've seen some of my previous disasters, Mysteries of Darkmoon, Heroes of Draenor, and my Dragonkin class, but i'm trying to use the experience i got from that to make a better custom expansion. I've got some good ideas for what i want to do for this one and i'll hope you'll give me some feed back. But enough with that, let's talk about the expansion itself.
Keywords:
Whenever there's a new expansion, there always needs to be at least 1 new keyword, and this one is no diffrent! In this expansion, i decided to add to the Shuffle mechanic, making it a new keyword!
Shuffle is a mechanic that has exitsted for a while now which is on quitte a few cards, for example Malorne, Weasel Tunneler, or Dead Man's Hand. But we've never actually had synergie with this mechanic allowing it to shine in it's full potential. With this expansion i want to improve this mechanic giving all sorts of crazy synergies with it and even focussing a whole class on it. Some cards will do something to Shuffled cards, this does NOT mean cards that have the keyword Shuffle on them but they are cards that have been Shuffled into your deck somewhere this game.
Artifacts:
The War of the Ancients was undoubtilbly one of the biggest wars that has ever taken place on Azeroth, with conciquences we notice even today. The near extinction of the blue dragonflight, the existence of the Naga, and most importantly the Shattering all took place during or slightly after the war. Because there were so many important things in this war that all played and still play a huge part in WoW lore. I wanted them all to be in this expansion, introducing: Artifacts!
Artifacts are Spell-Type cards (and one Paladin weapon) that have a very powerful effect which synergises with the theme of the class this expansion. (Which is the reason they wouldn't be in arena in case you were wondering) These cards can single-handidly turn around games and are some of the most powerful cards in the game (if they'd existed). Rogues in this expansion will have a lot of cards synergising with the Shuffle mechanic. So the artifact is going to do something very powerful to make the mechanic shine at it's full glory. I present to you, the first revealed artifact: The World Soul of Argus.
The world soul of Argus was used to accelerate the process of the Demons coming back after they've fallen. Demons pretty much couldn't die unless they died in the Twisting Nether. They managed to be able to come back in infinite armies all cause of the world soul. Rogues in this expansion use the world soul to their own benefit, they use it to bring Shuffled cards back to their hand. This card actually really is similar to what it does in the lore if you think about it.
Cards:
Enough of all of that! Let's get into the part you've probally skipped to because the rest is boring. The cards! Each class will have a specific theme this expansion with an Artifact that goes with it. Just like KoFT and JTU all classes will have 3 commons and rares, 2 epics, and 2 legendaries, 1 of them a minion and the other an Artifact.
Druid - 10
Druids had to hold their ground in the war. They had to fight harder than ever before. In this expansion Druids will have more Synergie with attack cards like Savagery. So while this is not an entirely new archetype, there is much to be improved upon with this expansion.
Hunter - 10
Hunters will meanwhile use Beast and Traps to fend of the Demons, although some can tame some Demons and have them fight for their side, Hunter this expansion will mostly be themed around Secrets and Beasts. This archetype has already been supported in the past and these cards support that.
The Eagle Spear:
Mage - 10
Mages will be joining Queen Azshara's side, they will try to work with the Demons to create Azshara's perfect world and murder anyone that opposes them with their magic from the Well. Mages this expansion will have a very new theme, Demon Spell Damage Mage. Their win condition is to try to find huge bursts of damage much like freeze mage but unlike freeze mage they clear the board with their spell damage and may even throw stuff on there every now and then. A very new take on this sort of deck. Can't go wrong with trying something new right? Alright forget about Freeze Shaman...
Tokens:
Paladin - 10
Paladins will also join the Legion and swarm their foes with the endless army of the Burning Legion. Paladin will be getting some Demon synergies this expansion and will try to dominate the board with them making for a strong mid-range deck. Can't ever go wrong with Demons can you? Just ask Gul'Dan!
Priest - 10
Priests will use the aid of the dragonflight during this expansion reviving Dragon Priest after the new wild rotation. However it will take a diffrent turn with a new mechanic. You will have to play more strategicly and conservative with your cards but will still play somewhat the same.
Rogue - 10
Rogues make great use of the world soul of argus in the war to bring back their fallen members. Sometimes making them even stronger than what they were before. The Shuffle mechanic is the new theme for rogue this expansion with tons of powerful cards synergising with it and lots of posibilities. This is sort of a control rogue archetype with tons of possible value for every card.
Shaman - 10
Shamans will have to search for help and wisdom from the Elements, and while some do react, most don't and they'll have to do with Murlocs for now. Shaman is moslty foccused around a Recruit Murloc-type deck which cotains the Shuffle keyword. One archetype will be Recruit Murloc Shaman which uses the Recruit mechanic from Kobolds and Catacombs but they will also have a deck similar to the old Anyfin Can Happen Paladin deck with the card "Tidal Call" where you have to Shuffle numerous Murloc Chargers (3 mana 3/1 Charge, Deathrattle: Shuffle this into your deck.) and then all pull them out with Tidal Call for a huge amount of burst damage.
Tokens:
Warlock - 10
Warlocks have decided to side with the Legion! They make great use of the Demons around them trying to overwhelm their enemy with the endless armies they can create from summoning Demons from the Twisting Nether. I wanted to have that theme for Warlocks this expansion since you can't really have a War of the Ancients expansion without Demons can you?
Warrior - 10
Gear up! To fight in such a big war is beyond dangerous, you need some armor to even have a chance of survival! Warriors this expansion will have to protect themselfs from the nasty Demons with lots and lots of armor... ResidentSleeper...

Decks
So now that you've seen all the cards you can sort of see how they can all fit together and hopefully appriciate this set just a bit more :)
Druid: Attack Druid of course! Nearly all of their cards synergised with it this expansion in the hopes of creating a new and viable archetype for druid that would most likely be a midrange/control type of deck with their 2 new legendaries as their most important cards!
Hunter: Secret Hunter is the main archetype being pushed here, while their are beast synergies it isn't the archetype i was foccused on making. This Secret Hunter would be a more control style Secret Hunter with the new Artifact working as their win condition and Deathstalker Rexxar making sure the deck doesn't run out of steam.
Mage: Their are 2 archetypes here, a basic Demon Control deck which could be a sort of Big Mage version but mainly a new Spell Damage Demon Mage that can create huge bursts of damage, always wait for the combo section and you can see an example:
Paladin: Demon Control/Midrange is the deck i'm going for to try to get Paladin away from being "that aggro class. It can make huge board swings and generally has pretty high-cost powerful minions.
Priest: Dragon Priest, obviously. Only this version could give you more decisions with cards like Korialstrasz to be more conservative with your Dragons. However, Tears of Elune is also a very solid control card which could work in an Odd-Priest deck.
Rogue: Shuffle Rogue would be the archetype which has a very new value oriented playstyle that could really go anywhere but in the long run it would easilly beat any deck in the value game!
Shaman: Recruit Murloc Shaman is the main archetype, it's a Murloc Shaman that has more steam and is overall more threatening and that might just be enough to get it to be a meta deck. Next to that their would be a sort of control deck very similar to Anyfin Paladin around the new Shaman card "Tildal Call" which you can see in the combo section below :)
Warlock: Control Warlock...
Warrior: Control Warrior with a lot of even-Cost cards, basicly the old one but with more valueble tools to help it succeed.
Combos
I also made a few cards in this expansion with some specific comments in mind so i'll list a couple here:
This is the second Shaman archetype i was aiming for and while these are some of the synergies there are many more and also many more ways to deal even more damage to make for a very interesting Anyfin Paladin like deck
++
+ or
An Insane 9 mana combo to get 8 Spell Damage for either your Azsahara or an Imp Sorcerer to deal 9 damage or with the Coing an insane 18 damage combo! Or set it up with Azsahara.
Balanced
Some of the cards i have decided to change throughout the period of me creating this custom expansion :)
These are NOT the scrapped cards, these have just been changed i felt was better for the card itself and/or the expansion as a whole.
----->
Just a small buff, To Battle! is a very situational and slow card with a not very impactful effect, compared to Mark of the Lotus this card was just unplayable. According to that logic the first effect should cost 1 or maybe less because it only effects your murlocs altough otherwise it would've been able to buff your Totems. And the Shuffling effect is the only other benefit. The reason this is so strong however is because of the cards that support it this expansion. Despite that, such a situational card like this should still not be 3 mana.
----->
So this is basicly a complete rework and maybe should've been in the Scrapped Card section but i desided not to put it there. So first the card was, well... Really busted. You had the ability to get so much value for 6 mana! just play it when you can and don't worry about it and you get value every single turn! The second version requires you to constantly play it and for the first 3 turns it's just so stupidly slow. But can get much stronger overtime.
----->
The 1 mana just gave it too much combo potential and it just gives you such an insane early game advantage if not removed instantly. I just found it to be a better decision to bump it up by 1 mana and give it +1/+1.
----->
I decided to make this a Hunter card because next to the obvious reason being a much better fit for Hunter with flavour, it is a very decent control Hunter card that could for once actually works being a very big threat on the aggresive side as well. I also decided to change the mana cost from 9 to 8 because first of all, i could afford it with a class card and even more because it's a high-cost Hunter card. And also because i felt that would be slightly more balanced in general.
Scrapped
Cards that have not made it into this expansion and have been completely scrapped for a variety of reasons.
The reason i decided to scrap this was because i just didn't really like this design, it was meant to be an interestinting take on Wrathguard but looking at it now it just nearly seems like a worse version.
Just another poor design and no real way to fix it. Just play a fireball for 1 more mana instead of giving your opponent +6 Spell Damage, the drawback is just insane and too much of a gamble.
I decided a version which gave your Demons the Spell Damage permanently instead for 1 more mana would just be a better idea. Another bonus of the version in the actual set is that the art is 10X better! :D
Not really that bad of a design but there was just no space because the other Hunter cards were just better.
Same here really, not that much going on.
And another card falling victim to the limitation of just 8 non-legendary cards per class. This is probally my favourite out of the bunch. Pretty decent design and the sort of basic card you sometimes need in an expansion.
If i didn't have better ideas i would've put this in but this just isn't anything special. Not much else to say about this one...
Just feels it's a weird and poorly designed card in general. Besides i couldn't think of a Priest Artifact this expansion so i just decided to make the Tears of Elune into that and decided to have the Tidestone of Gol'Ganneth be Shaman's Artifact. :)
Now next up is and entire Keyword that got scrapped!
The Keyword was supposed to be called: "Impact". What it would basicly translate to would be: "Whenever an enemy minion gets damaged by this, ..." This wording would be from the point of view of the minion that got damaged by the minion with Impact. For example, Poisonous would translate to: "Impact: Destroy this minion". However, i had a lot of trouble wording it and just couldn't come up with original ideas. I mostly just ended up creating cards with Impact: Give this minion Deathrattle: .... So in the end i just decided to scrap it all together, so here are some Impact cards to give you a rough idea:
Just very bad and busted design in general...
I really hoped you enjoyed this expansion. This has been a very fun (and long) journey for me and i'm looking forward to doing it all over again with my Deserts of Kalimdor expansion. :D
Yes, this update is indeed more than 2 months after i originaly released this expansion. I'm sort of as concistent with these updates as Blizzard with their balance updates so forgive me for that please. However, i decided to bring this expansion back with a fun little update. In the War of the Ancients, many battles were fought, and many died in the great battle between the Night Elves and the big evil, Sargeras's Burning Legion. But there is an even more dangerous enemy out there, one that has been under the radar for to long now, the Murlocs. In the War of the Ancients however, they came out of their hideouts and went to join in the war alongside the Burning Legion, while people thought it was Archimonde who killed Malorne, in reality, it was Mrrglimonde, people just got the story wrong because the names are pretty similar. And while people may have thought it was N'Zoth, the Corruptor who drove Deathwing down the path of madness, it was actually Fin'Zoth. Someone just exidentaly made a typo and included the wrong art. So here they are, the most evil, and once powerfull beings this world has ever seen, the Murlocs! Enjoy the set while you can because it will take 2 more months for the next update probally :/
15-12-17 Update - Invasion - 14 New Cards including Mannoroth!
Hello again everyone, over the last 3 days i've been creating some more cards for my War of the Ancients custom expansion and today i decided i would reveal them! This update focusses heavilly on the Demons. Which would kind of make sence if the expansion was about one of the biggest Demon invasions in Warcraft history. A few of the biggest Demons were involved in this battle like Archimonde, Hakkar the Houndmaster, Azzinoth, but also their leader, Sargeras himself. Though that was indirectly since he couldn't enter Azeroth itself. All of these will be revealed later but there is one that i have revealed in this update, and it's no other than Mannoroth himself! Besides the Demons there are lots more cards in this update for a big variaty of classes, i hope you enjoy the cards!
Ps; elven sharpshooter should have battlecry and uhm, why is invasion a paladin card?
Thank you :)
Also thanks for pointing out the mistake on Elven Sharpshooter and the reason Invasion is a Paladin card is because only 2/10 paladin cards have been revealed and i'm planning on making a Demon Paladin archetype.
18-12-17 Update - Well of Eternity - 16 New Cards!
Hello again everyone, today i've got another new set of cards ready for my War of the Ancients expansion. This time, it's themed around the Well of Eternity. The center of the war and what sort of started it. The Well of Eternity comes back in this expansion as an Artifact. These are powerful spells which played an important role in the war and just like quests, every class has one of those. And the Well of Eternity goes to the Mage class. Overall in this update, there's lots of Mage cards, lots of Demons, and the new Artifact, the Well of Eternity. I hope you like the cards!
28-2-18 Update - Armies of the Legion - 15 New Cards!
Hello everyone, after not posting on this site for a while i finally decided to update this custom expansion. This update will contain tons of Demons and also some new Demon themed Paladin cards to support the new Demon Paladin archetype. Which will include their new Legendary minion, Lothraxion! This bunch of cards will also contain new class cards for a variety of classes and a new neutral legendary Demon! I'm hoping to be continueing this set for a couple of more updates and the next update will probally be focussed around the other side, the night elves! For now yough, i hope you like the cards and take care everyone!
Hello everyone, After a few days i finally updated this thread again with a set of cards with the theme of the dragonflights that also took part during the War of the Ancients. If you read my previous update (probally not) you would've seen i would have this uppdate themed about the resistence but that will have to wait for a bit. I already made a bunch of cards i'm really exited to show first though. Starting with these! As i said this update will be about the dragonflights that took part of the war which means Priest is finally getting some cards. So far i've only released 2 priest cards so i thought it was time to change that. Besides that there are a few neutral cards and the new neutral legendary minion: Neltharion, Earth-Warder. That's right, 2 Deathwings wasn't enough. Though this one is very diffrent. This update also introduces the mechanic of needing to have multiple Dragons in your hand instead of just 1. Because with Dragon priest you have one Dragon you hold on for the entire game and benefit from it. Here you need to be recourceful with your Dragons. The main card out of the 3 new ones that does this is Korialstrasz, which i will have more info on in the card spotlight. Goodbye for now!
Hello everyone, after not updating this thread for over a month i've decided to do just that and reveal some new cards themed around the Kaldorei Resistence which was the side that was against the whole idea of summoning Sargeras into Azeroth. The Kaldorei Resistence was led by Jarod Shadowsong and formerly Lord Ravencrest and Desdel Stareye. Quitte a variety of races were part of it as well since it consisted of mostly elfs but also Tauren, Wild Gods, the Dragonflights, and even Furbolgs. They would of course end up winning the war and deny Sargeras from entering the world of Azeroth and by doing that probally saving the planet. This group of cards will contain a lot of neutral cards, some rogue cards and some other cards from varied classes and 3 legendaries that were all members of the Kaldorei Resistence. I hope you enjoy these cards and i will hopefully update this thread before next month.
Hello everyone, today i decided to reveal some more cards for my custom War of the Ancients expansion! This update will be centered around the Wild Gods and the Beasts that joined the battle that fought against the Demons. This update will also reveal all of the unrevealed Druid cards and some other class cards and some neutral cards most notibly, Ursoc and Ursol. However i hope you enjoy the cards and i'm hoping to reveal some new ones very soon :)
19-4-2018 Update - Tides of Kalimdor - 10 New Cards!
Hello everyone, after 13 days i am finally updating this expansion with another card update, this one is themed around threats from the seas! This involves mostly Murlocs since i couldn't reveal all Murlocs in the first "Murlocalypse" update and some other stuff, some related to the theme and some not since i don't want this update to be to small. However it is still smaller than some previous ones and this update will reveal the final cards for some classes since we are unfortunatly nearing the end of the set. This set of cards will also be revealing a new deck for shaman which is Tidal Call Shaman, this plays very similarly to Anyfin Paladin but very diffrently at the same time. The idea is to shuffle Murloc Chargers into your deck which includes copies you make of it during the game, then play Tidal call and create huge burst damage to go face with, if that isn't enough you can always buff them or of course play another Tidal Call. Or if you're playing wild just play Everyfin is Awesome. There's also more cards to support the Murloc Recruit Shaman which is being supported this expansion and much more so have a look out the cards and i'm hoping to update this thread very soon :)
Hello everyone, this is going to be the second to last update of my War of the Ancients custom expansion. It will mostly be focussing on the heroes of the war, the ones that stood up against the Demons and the Burning Legion and helped defeat them.
Common: 1
Rare: 2
Epic: 1

Lost the "Wild Portal" token image on my computer.
So unfortunatly this is going to be the last bunch of cards i'm going to be revealing this expansion. This will mark the end of this 8 month long journey! I've had a lot of fun making these and am looking forward to revealing another custom expansion in the near future. Regardless enjoy the final bunch of cards and i'd love some feedback to go forward with into my 4th custom expansion!
So as the title suggests, this is most likely going to be the final update for this expansion! But before you start cheering i also want to announce that my new desert themed expansion will be revealed very soon! But before i start getting ahead of myself, let's get into this update first! So as you all probally don't know at all, at the end of all of my fan-made expansions i create a scrapped section to show some of the cards that didn't quitte make it into the expansion. That could be for multiple reasons like balance, poor design, or simply because there were better options. With many more reasons still the case for some cards. Unlike in my other expansions, i'll also be listing some of the changes here because i felt it was better for the card and/or the expansion as a whole. Now that you had to sit through all of that, let's see the cards that didn't make it!
It's been a really fun (and long) journey!
Changed
These are NOT the scrapped cards, these have just been changed i felt was better for the card itself and/or the expansion as a whole.----->

Hello everyone!

Some cards will do something to Shuffled cards, this does NOT mean cards that have the keyword Shuffle on them but they are cards that have been Shuffled into your deck somewhere this game.

Lightwarden + +HealingRain
A fun little combo you could try to pull of :)
+++
This is the second Shaman archetype i was aiming for and while these are some of the synergies there are many more and also many more ways to deal even more damage to make for a very interesting Anyfin Paladin like deck
++
+ or
An Insane 9 mana combo to get 8 Spell Damage for either your Azsahara or an Imp Sorcerer to deal 9 damage or with the Coing an insane 18 damage combo! Or set it up with Azsahara.
Balanced
Some of the cards i have decided to change throughout the period of me creating this custom expansion :)
These are NOT the scrapped cards, these have just been changed i felt was better for the card itself and/or the expansion as a whole.
----->
----->
----->
The 1 mana just gave it too much combo potential and it just gives you such an insane early game advantage if not removed instantly. I just found it to be a better decision to bump it up by 1 mana and give it +1/+1.
----->
12-12-17 Update - MURLOCALYPSE - 10 New Cards!

4-3-18 Update - The Dragonflights - 14 New Cards!

2-4-18 Update - The Resistence - 14 New Cards!

5-6-18 FINAL UPDATE - Scrapped Cards!

So those were the Balanced and Scrapped cards, hope you still sort of enjoyed the concepts and i'll hopefully be back soon with my upcoming desert themed expansion. :)
