Explanation:If you cast this spell with Voodoo effect to a minion with 2 health then it summons a random minion for 8 mana, because 8 damage is excess (you're wasting 8 damage). Let's be honest, a lot of the cards in Servitors of the Loa are REALLY REALLY good. This card is even better if you can get one of the Loa through it and have it cost 0. The fact that the expansion has so many brilliant cards is what makes this card so strong.
When looking through all of these cards that were already designed I didn't want to make a new card that didn't mesh with the theme already in play. For me I wanted to make a Shaman card and mesh with the Totem theme since I think totems are a really interesting design space. Volcanic Totem already works for single target "random"ish removal so I wanted to play in the AoE space...and add a fun twist.
fits the theme of warlock, damaging yourself to damage others, and remember you have to survive 15 damage in order to go aggro (the reasoning for basing it on a real minion is that I wanted the Battlecry of flameimp/pit lord, I wanted a legendary, and pit lord stats were a great fit)
I wanted the card to act similarly to how it did in the game. While I know that Paladins get Ash-bringer, I thought that having this as a Warlock card open's up some interesting combos and that the Voodoo combo ties into the Warlock's ability to sacrifice health for 'power'.
