It will definitely be interesting to see how the voting goes. Normally joke cards are frowned upon but this week many of the most popular cards are based on unglued/unhinged sets, which perfectly fit the theme but are joke cards be definition. Not sure the voting criteria this week is going to be for "best hearthstone card" but its also going to be hard to base a decision on "best adaptation" when only a small portion of the population know the source material. Personally, I usually try to vote for a card that best fits the theme of the week but I'm going to have a hard time voting for anything that isn't based on Magic just because I'm not familiar with other CCGs.
That being said, we haven't seen this much interest in this competition in weeks and there are a ton of excellent entries from people who don't have the "previous winner" border. New blood is great for this competition and this theme clearly brought in a lot of new people. Big success there.
And for all the new people - PLEASE REMEMBER THAT YOU CAN USE HEARTHCARDS.NET TO MAKE YOUR CARDS BUT YOU NEED TO UPLOAD THE IMAGE SOMEWHERE ELSE BEFORE SUBMITTING. HEARTHCARDS ONLY SAVES THE IMAGES FOR A FEW DAYS AND PEOPLE CAN'T VOTE FOR YOU IF THE CARD DOESN'T EXIST ANYMORE. Saw a few good cards disappear this week because they were hosted on hearthcards.net.
Oh, well, I arrived too late to take part in this week contest. Anyway, I forgot to come up with a collectible card and made one for Arfus/The Lich King x) The source card fitted the Death Knight so much I couldn't resist. :)

That gives me an idea. Since we now have an official card background for the Death Knight class, the next competition should be about making Death Knight cards generated by Arfus and Lich King.

That sounds like an awesome idea! The winner of the card competition chooses the theme for the next competition though :P (Well technically they choose the theme for the next next competition i.e. in 2 weeks time, but you get the idea). But hey, your card is looking pretty good so far! You might win! :)
Btw, what do you think about my card? It's a bit difficult to balance...
I want to take back what i said about this being a bad idea for a promt.
As usual you seem to be a step ahead of everyone else with adapting to the times.
We've been granted the blessing of having front page coverage again, and one of the biggest problems from last week, was the disaterous amount of non eligble Submissions. Your promt is rather straightforward. Turn a card that exists in another TCG into one that could work in Hearthstone. It's hard to get that wrong.
Furthermore, it's an attractive oppertunity for new creators to join in, since most people on these forums has played another TCG in one form or another, making it super relatable. And the card creation community desperatly needed more creators to join in. Since we were down at 80-90 submissions a week. I'm fairly sure that we have more eligble submissions this week, than any other week this year.
Great work Cogito :)
(Although i'm still mad that i won't reach the finals this week, since MTG cards seems to be so favored compared to every other TCG :p)
Awww. Thanks for the compliment Tox! You too RazorOfArtorias!
I hoped a theme would attract more new contestants. I tried to make it objective as possible (The card just needed a name and art. The replication of the original card's effect was implied.); it helps those who aren't familiar with other CCGs as well! It certainly contrasts my exetremely mechanical Cycle theme. XD
I'm curious as to see how people will vote. Would they vote the card based on the card game it came from? It's similarities to the original card? If the card is balanced/innovative/fun in general?
One thing's for sure. The competitors love creating Jace cards as much as Wizards of the Coast!

It's an interesting theme. Much less broken then mine. Though mine is gonna have tough competition for that one guy made this:

Eh. I mean, that card is top-notch when it comes to flavor. Probably the clear winner if that's all the contest was judging. But as a playable card? It doesn't translate that well as disruption in Hearthstone except against specific combo decks. Against a deck like against Quest Mage, you find Antonidas and you win almost instantaneously. Against Highlander Priest? Knocking off their Raza or Obsidian Statue won't really do a whole lot since it's just gravy. 3 mana for information and minor disruption doesn't feel worth a deck slot, at least not in Hearthstone.
It was definitely a lot of fun submitting a first attempt. Jace the Mind Sculptor has definitely been a very influential and nuisance kind of card in the Magic the Gathering field since it's creation years ago. I did want to share with you all another creation of mine built on the same 0 casting idea as my submission. Enjoy. :D
If you spend 0 through 4 mana you receive this hero power.
If you spend 5 to 9 mana you gain this hero power.
And finally... if you spend 10 mana... you gain THIS hero power.
I definitely will be continuing to submit ideas in future competitions and congratulations to everyone on all your awesome submissions.

It reads 3 mana "Reveal 4 random minions in your opponent's deck and choose one. Transform it into a random minion that costs (1) more." So, this is basically is a Legendary spell that's NOT a Quest, and all it does is make you spend 3 whole Mana to make a minion in your opponent's deck better.
So yeah, it's not exactly the greatest card. XD
Also, you aren't exactly competing with it (yet). You're competing with the cards on the same page as yours for a spot in the final poll. Here's the exact details of the competition process:
How do we determine the qualifying finalists? First, we'll pull up-vote data from each submission using the formula detailed below:
(ab) / (c) = x
Where, a = The total number of submissions on the same page as the submission. b = The total number of up-votes that the submission received. c = The total number of up-votes on the same page as the submission. x = The submission's final score.
The formula basically measures which cards stood out the most, with the necessary assumption that each page is about equal in overall submission quality. It will be the entries that receive the highest final scores that move on to the Final Phase.
The bottom line is that, although entries on the earlier pages of the Submission Topic are much more visible and thus receive many more up-votes than entries on later pages, you don't actually have to rush to get your entry in as soon as possible because the up-votes end up being weighted by what page your entry ends up on in order to determine its final score.
But wait, there's more! During each Weekly Card Design Competition, each Fan Creation Forum moderators will be given a Wild Card, which they can use to advance any one entry that they feel was initially overlooked or under-appreciated to the Final Phase, regardless of its final score. Wild Cards are our way of spicing things up a bit, but please don't ask to be given one or be upset if you aren't given one. These are just supposed to be fun. (Also, it should go without saying that, while we moderators are allowed to participate in the competitions, we are not allowed to benefit from Wild Cards.)

I do like how you're implementing something vaguely akin to loyalty counters with the Forbidden mechanic from Whispers of the Old Gods. However, this card does literally nothing but change your Hero Power, which is only one part of the mystique of Hero Cards in Hearthstone. There might be a better way of implementing an analogue of loyalty counters, honestly.

Since you're a newcomer, you probably aren't aware of this, but there's an unofficial rule that card text on a Hearthstone card CANNOT exceed 4 lines. There is no official Hearthstone card that has more than 4 lines of word text. This rule exists to encourage simplicity within cards and to make sure that the card isn't too lengthy in other languages. The more words there are on a card, the smaller the individual words are, and the harder it is to read them, especially on mobile devices. This card has over 4 lines of text, so it's not a plausible Hearthstone card. The card text can be simplified anyways ("Battlecry: Spend all your mana. Your Hero Power is based on the amount of Mana you've spent.")
Another thing that's important is class identity. Class identity defines the weaknesses, strengths, and class-specific mechanics within a class. This exists to support flavour and to make every class feel different mechanically. Hence why Rogue receives bad healing and AoE but excellent hard removal and tempo-gaining cards. For example, only Priest class cards can steal enemy minions. The 10 mana Hero Power obviously breaks that class identity.
YOU CANNOT HAVE MORE THAN 4 LINES OF CARD TEXT ON YOUR CARD.
This is an unofficial rule within Hearthstone that promotes the "Simple yet challenging" game design that Hearthstone is going for. Also, it's extremely difficult to read the card text if they are too many words, especially on mobile devices or if the card is in a different language.
You can ask any another other card-designing Veteran, and they'll tell you the same thing
I'm not sure you needed to say it twice. Newcomers are newcomers, and many of them are going to be 1-time competitors— can't really force the 'style' rule on them.

My apologies as I'm unsure how to quote just pieces of a forum post and end up quoting the entire thing. I bolded and underlined the area I wished to reply to.
While the card "does literally nothing but change your hero power", It none the less is a card that can be played literally on turn 1 giving you an additional 5 health.
By no means am I arguing that it by any means is a good idea, just merely suggesting that it does have an initial use.
Loyalty counters were an interesting addition to MTG. While I don't see the need or importance of them in Hearthstone; I did feel the need to create a card for the competition that centers around what I see a lot of daily at the card shop I manage. All day long I hear planeswalker this or Jace that and while the audible aspect of hearing those "household" names is sometimes overbearing; I see the impact they've made to MTG.
I'm sure there would be a way to introduce "Hero Abilities" in theory with some form of loyalty counter or counter in general... just going with what I knew. Thank you for taking time to providing your insight and opinion.

This would be a good thing to note somewhere in the official text of the submission thread, to be honest. It already mentions properly uploading your images in a visible way -- not as a rule but as good advice -- and this seems to fall under that; if it's an "unspoken rule" that's basically guaranteed to lose you votes it'd be nice to say it.
I don't think it falls under general card quality-checking either because I'd have to check every card in the game to know that. It seems like an easy mistake any newcomer would make, and posting a brief warning about it alongside the thing about how to properly display your images would go a long way towards improving the general quality of submissions and the contest in general. xP
