I already submitted this but I was wondering what any of you thought of the balancing.
My main justification for doing the token evolution thing was it was a way I could make a card that wasn't some kind of high-cost Legendary, as well as the fact that it let me more or less include both of Dark Machoke's abilities without making a single card without overly complex trigger conditions. (Both Dark Machoke and Dark Machamp can remove enemies from active combat, but only Dark Machoke can bring enemies into active combat, so I gave that one to him.)
I tried to compare stat values to similar cards already in the game. Mainly Dirty Rat and Direhorn Hatchling (obviously) as well as Arcane Golem/Hyldnir Frostrider for Machoke... and after I posted it with Machamp at 10 mana I realized Maexxna was the closest comparison so I lowered its cost to 8.
(
Tricky to tune the stats on and might need balancing work. I guess the Machoke is essentially Dirty Rat + Direhorn Hatchling with some re-tuning but I think that was the best way to do evolution while also representing Dark Machoke's ability to control its targets. I skipped Machop because there's no dark version, and making this three-tiered would be overkill and de-emphasize the interesting effects. Sorry for the lack of set symbol on the token; Hearth Cards wouldn't put it on without a rarity symbol. @_@
Direhorn Hatchling is understatted for its cost as opposed to this one being overstatted -- which is partially because of the double-edged Dirty Rat effect -- because Direhorn Matriarch is actually OVERSTATTED for its cost. I tried to make Dark Machamp fair for its 10-cost; unlike with Hatchling you're not partially paying for the second card's value with the collectible card.
(EDIT: Just changed the mana-cost of the Dark Machamp card from 10 to 8.)
Are cards from other card games rather than ccgs allowed ? If the rules said the card have to come from a ccg, which I would say that you need to have a personal library of cards to make your decks out of, then Dominion and Smash Up won't be allowed, for example. I would say yes that they cant be used. But I'm not sure because I saw masquerade from Dominion in the submission.
First off. I would personally like to thank and compliment Cogito_Ergo_Sum for coming up with an awesome theme for this card creating competition. I have, on numerous occasions, visited previous competitions; admiring and silently shaking my head at some of the ideas people have come up with.
With that said I wanted to take a moment and congratulate and humbly acknowledge "every-single-person-who-has-posted-or-shared-ideas" from past to present. YOU GUYS AND GALS ARE FREAKING AWESOME!
Notable mentions from my browsing of the Discussion and Submission threads; sadly I'll admit I didn't commit to viewing the Discussion thread until after I had already posted my own submission which can be found here: Snapples's Jace the Mind Sculptor submission for 6.11
Regardless. Special mentions and comments are as follows.
What can I say. I would absolutely LOVE to see this card or a variant of it (i.e. same mechanics) implemented into Hearthstone immediately. This card has the whimsical randomness Hearthstone is notorious for and provides a 'decent' opportunity to benefit greatly from it's Battlecry effect. Bravo!
At first look I almost sighed at the overall feel of the card, but on further thought and consideration; I definitely admire the card Nobroam has submitted.
Tokens... That's all I gotta say. I'd almost recommend changing it's rarity to Epic and giving it a 3-5 mana cost just for the possibilities this card could answer in Hearthstone; if it were to go live. (Name change provided... of course)
Now instead of Skulking Geist we could run two of these and boom. No more Jade Druid. No more silly token generating chaos. This card is ...sweet. :D

I want to take back what i said about this being a bad idea for a promt.
As usual you seem to be a step ahead of everyone else with adapting to the times.
We've been granted the blessing of having front page coverage again, and one of the biggest problems from last week, was the disaterous amount of non eligble Submissions. Your promt is rather straightforward. Turn a card that exists in another TCG into one that could work in Hearthstone. It's hard to get that wrong.
Furthermore, it's an attractive oppertunity for new creators to join in, since most people on these forums has played another TCG in one form or another, making it super relatable. And the card creation community desperatly needed more creators to join in. Since we were down at 80-90 submissions a week. I'm fairly sure that we have more eligble submissions this week, than any other week this year.
Great work Cogito :)
(Although i'm still mad that i won't reach the finals this week, since MTG cards seems to be so favored compared to every other TCG :p)
I have checked out your creation. Here's my "critique" if you don't mind. Lol.
Utilizing synergies between playing board wipes, kill spells, Doomsayers and Deathwing... not to mention even Sacrificial Pact would be an auto include... ESPECIALLY with the new Warlock DK Hero Card.... I actually favor your creation over Hearthstone's Lakkari Sacrifice. While the minion itself is definitely a priority silence target... as that would totally shut the reward down for playing a legendary quest... I feel it literally would make Warlock great. Fantastic. Absolutely smashing.
While most will just settle in with their net decks and aggro revamps... I would be playing decks I currently play. Kill my own stuff. Give you mana. Destroy my own mana. This card would be played so much by me.
Not only do I approve of your card, but I vote for your card. :D It's that awesome!
I'm interested in and open to any feedback that you guys might have.
In terms of other cards, I like how Jace from MtG got multiple Hero card entries. My personal favorite is the 4 mana Sap that exchanges your ping for a controlled draw effect. The Cheese entries are also pretty amusing. At first I thought Alarm-o-Bot would work, but that puts a card in your hand.
Reading this page also has my racking my brain to evaluate Black Illusion Ritual. A 3 mana destroy a minion that returns to your hand is a hard pill to swallow, even as a Quest Reward.

I really like this card. Though I think Golisopod should be a Beast. If it was it would synergize better with cards like Tundra Rhino.
I know Relinquished may be a hard pill to swallow, but I would like to remind you The Caverns Below exists. This is one minion that can only target one at a time. Originally you could cheese with it, but I increased the mana cost so it can still be used in combos, but not as much. Plus, decks that use small minions or decks that can quickly get big minions on the board like Jade Druid, will easily be able to counter this.
So I recently submitted the Arle Nadja card using one of her Weiss Schwarz cards (and another for the token). A small edit from an older card I did before (that one shuffled the Nuisance into the deck, which could get very harsh if you get a big C'Thun alongside her). Not sure if 4 mana is right for a pu/yo (2/4) minion with a Curse of Rafaam-like effect that screws with your curve, even if it's a double-edged sword.
EDIT: Nerfed Nuisance into a 1-drop so it won't be so overwhelming with things like Unleash the Hounds or anything else that hits face a lot.
----
As for Golisopod, it should probably be changed from taking damage to surviving it. As it is, it can seemingly take even a Rag shot and get away before it dies like, you know, an insect.

I decided during the design process not to give it the Beast tag since it doesn't closely resemble a real-world animal like other Pokemon do. Ursaring is very clearly a bear, for example, but Golisopod is more monster than bug. Being a close analogue to a real-world beast is not its most defining visual trait.
As for Black Illusion Ritual and Relinquished, I do think the design itself works well and comes full circle in a satisfying way; however, due to the strength of its text and its status as a Quest Reward, I think costing it at 5 mana wouldn't detract from its power while bringing it in line with other Quest Rewards. At 5 mana, it's an unconditional Vilespine Slayer with better stats if you destroy a 3/3 minion or bigger that also returns to your hand upon death provided it isn't Silenced or transformed. It's bundling a lot of effects into one card AND refreshes itself. At 3 mana, it sits well above the power curve since you have up to 7 mana to work with after that and provides a massive tempo swing.
How things change. At least you have the satisfaction of knowing your idea was ahead of its time.
In other news, it appears the submission topic proper is officially locked. Good luck to everybody who submitted! I wonder how many Jace cards will make it to the finals.
To be fair. It seems like a really bad idea. But in current context, it's just about perfect.
The competition is "unfair", since a lot of people dosen't know a lot about other TCG's. But the usual competitions are also rather "unfair" for new comers, because of a lack in experience in creating custom Hearthstone cards.
This prompt allows newcomers to take some of their knowledge from other games that they've tried, and turn them into functional Hearthstone cards. Furthermore it's more foolproof that the usual promts, as the restrictions are rather clear cut, and easy to manage. Making it easier for everyone to join in.

I want a new title, but Flux won't let me have one,
I'm curious to see what cards end up in the finals and how people will vote for them. There are a TON of submissions that rely on memes or popular cards that would be utterly broken in Hearthstone. So will people vote for actually balanced submissions? Or just their favorite card from Magic/Yugioh/whatever.

There's a lot of redundancy this time, what with 5 Jaces, 3 Dark Magician Girls, and two Cheeses. We've seen entries use the same art before in different contests, but not to this scale. There were surprisingly little Pokemon entries, but besides that, a lot of the usual suspects in every other regard, such as Yu-Gi-Oh Trap cards becoming Secrets. The Yu-Gi-Oh Dragons were a treat to see, though.
I'm also curious, but for different reasons: will we see multiple finalists representing the exact same card? Or will an exception to the scoring system be made this time that only counts the highest-scoring card of that pool?

I'm beginning to wonder if I didn't make a mistake submitting my own Jinzo design after someone else did theirs because I actually tried really hard to make it balanced and theirs is getting a lot of upvotes. xP I tried to do Pokemon but seem to be meeting little success.
My Jinzo. I went with minion effects instead of the obvious with secrets because though secrets are more like trap cards, trap cards are much more prevalent and used more by every player than secrets. Going with minion abilities actually better re-creates the massive (and double-edged) effect of having Jinzo in Yu-Gi-Oh did. And people forget that Jinzo was an upper middle-level creature, not a power monster; its biggest power was its effect, which was stronger the earlier you got it out, and I tried to represent that here. (Keep in mind it can't be protected with taunts, because taunt has no effect. =P )
What do you guys think about my submission? Thanks!
I like the principle a lot. Seems like a neat alternate version of the same kind of concept in cards like Mirage Caller or Shadowcaster. Question though, do you also add the legendary minion to your hand? (Your wording, implies you do; compare the wording to Ivory Knight, which works that way.) If that's the case then I think it needs to cost 5, not 4, or have lower stats, like 2/4 or 1/5. If you don't mean that then I would think the wording should be something like "Choose one of three Legendary minions and copy its text to this minion."
(The rules text of Discover is: "Choose one of three cards to add to your hand."; that wording is mimicked in my suggestion without using the word Discover or saying you add it to your hand.)

Hi there. I decided to submit an entry to the contest for the first time this week. I think being inspired to make this card in particular right off the bat helped spur my decision. Good job @Cogito_Ergo_Sum, as always.
PS: MTG >>> Everything.
