For this week, your card must have C'Thun synergy - that is, it must have C'Thun in its card text.
No sneaking around it with "Summon a Disciple of C'Thun" or something, we want you to reference the actual C'Thun.
We have whittled down ~110 valid entries to just 13of the community's favorites. Check out all the finalists below and vote in our poll (vote for as many or as few as you like) to help decide the winner and be sure to check back after the poll finishes for the announcement of the winner and the start of a new theme!
Well ill be the first to comment here. I just gotta pimp out my own card here, which is Masked Fanatics. As for the insight behind it, I wanted to make a powerful paladin 5-drop, as well as a hard removal card, both things that can be hard to come by in paladin. I know Paladin doesn't have any other C'thun cards, but you gotta start somewhere, and I thought the flavor of the card fit the Paladin class the best. So feel free to vote for it if you like it :)
Ancient Portal,Sacrifical Silithid, and Channeling Chantress.
Ancient Portal has good flavour with the rest of the Portal cards, and is still balanced for the Cost. Sacrificial Silithid reflects the card I submitted in a manner, I suppose, and Channeling Chantress is an interesting take on a kind of Violet Illusionist for C'Thun warlock.
Interesting to note than Goon of C'Thun and Sacrificial Silithid are functionally identical and only slightly different. Goon of C'Thun is simpler I guess, but the Beast synergy on Sacrificial Silithid is good too— if it were tri-class it would be even better.
Well even tho the theme was quite narrow and not very fun (at least for me), there r some decent finalists after all.
Ancient Portal (4): Decent flavor, decent T3 play, i guess it would be more balanced if it gave +2/+2, but i suppose it has to be a little over the top to be a viable card for this archetype. Overall good card.
Goon of C'Thun (3): Little on the busted side, i imagine the combos would be quite easy to achieve (especially pally). Also kinda cheap art! :pp u set your standards too high Chicken, we expect better lolo :p
Cult Betrayer (0): I dont think Zukuu and probably everyone who voted for this realized, that the battlecry would give this card +2/+2 even without a Ctun in a deck. 4/7 taunt for 4 ... yeah ....
Klaxxi Harbringer (4): I like this card a lot, but it should have been +1/+1. +2/+2 is a bit too much for me for a 1-drop that has even another option on top of it.
Channeling Chantress (5): I rly love this card, the effect is amazing, but again ... this will most likely work even wihout a Cthun in a deck. I mean even then its kinda balanced card id say and it would see play in pretty much any WL deck ... i suppose thats ok? yeah i guess in this case, it is. Cool card.
Gushing Tentacles (2): I honestly cant imagine any such one dimensional secret being made, ever. Not sure if its balanced either, it can be manipulated rather easilly to get whatever ability u want on your Cthun, which could be quite OP.
Hexed Cultist (3): The card looks actually quite decent ... but the art is like wtf ... is that supposed to be a cultist turned into a boar? so it can justify being a beast? or what?:o it rly makes the card a lot worse for me as a whole, sorry.
Moragg (3): Might be little too good, 3/3 would probably be better balanced, not only u get a tempo advantage, u thin your deck basically for free. Guess it sucks to draw it, but so does Patches the Pirate. And it could also be run in a non-Cthun deck with like only few of quality Cthun minions that r good in most decks like Disciple of C'Thun etc.
Corrupted Giant (2): Guess its fine, just rly uninteresting.
Masked Fanatics (3): I guess its ok .. but again can be run in a non-Cthun deck with just likes of Disciple of C'Thun, which i suppose is fine, since it would be relatively harder to activate than Vilespine Slayer in such a deck.
Quiet Worshiper (1): This card is SUPER busted. The minion itself is an ok silence minion which on itself is already good and on top of that it can give your Cthun insane boost, even if u silence a stupid 3/2 its one more stat than most Cthuns minion give and this one could easilly give waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more.
Sacrificial Silithid (4):Even tho i dont rly see the flavor with the name of the card and Cthun (not a wow player) it looks ok in druid i suppose. Also the wording feels better than at Goon of Cthun, even tho there is a precedence for "stats" (Darkspeaker) i still like spelled out "Attack and Health" better. Decent card.
/edit: ok flavor part explained to me :D
Safeguard the Temple (?): It looks like a rly cool card, but i cant rly tell if its balanced or not, that would require a lot more thinking and research than im willing to do at this hour, sorry :D
Hexed Cultist (3): The card looks actually quite decent ... but the art is like wtf ... is that supposed to be a cultist turned into a boar? so it can justify being a beast? or what?:o it rly makes the card a lot worse for me as a whole, sorry.
yup.. it's one of c'thuns cult that got Hexed (like Polymorph: Boar effect). at first idea, i make it as c'thuns pet, but why c'thuns want a pet? then i change the idea to this :D. like any minion that targeted by Polymorph: Boar, it'll turn into beast tag. yet this one is the most c'thuns loyal cult, he still worship his lord and savior C'thun-sama. i'm not find a good art, was looking for some beast with tentacle on it XD
2 cards here do not work as intended because of special interaction with C'Thun.
So, I will first explain how C'Thun works:
C'Thun's stats are tied to a player and not to C'Thun himself. So, you do not need to have C'Thun in your deck to buff him and activate cards like Twin Emperor Vek'lor. That's why the phrase "wherever it is" is written on C'Thun's cultists because wherever means even your collection.
So, Cult Betrayer and Channeling Chantress would work even without C'Thun in your deck. Moreover Cult Betrayer doesn't have the phrase "wherever it is" on it's card text.
The thing that's sort of awkward about Channeling Chantress and Cult Betrayer is that, when considering how C'Thun works, it's a much better card when you don't have C'Thun in your deck.
My favourite cards this time are Ancient Portal, Goon of C'thun (Although the art is, well, Doppelgangster flipped horizontally and colour-changed?), Sacrificial Silithid (Since it's pretty much the same card XD), and Moragg (although stats and stuff could maybe change a little?).
Sacrificial Silithid (3): Even tho i dont rly see the flavor with the name of the card and Cthun (not a wow player) it looks ok in druid i suppose. Also the wording feels better than at Goon of Cthun, even tho there is a precedence for "stats" (Darkspeaker) i still like spelled out "Attack and Health" better.
C'Thun created the qiraji from the silithids and silithids were the ones who built Ahn'Qiraj where C'Thun was kept. Silithids are insect like creatures.
I wrote "Attack and Health" in line with Blade of C'Thun and I think it is more clear.
I am listing the synergies with my card Sacrificial Silithid for everyone to see here:
Yeah, I looked at Darkspeaker and should have looked at Blade of C'Thun, I do like the "Deathrattle: Add this minion's Attack and Health to your C'Thun's" instead. Our entries are indeed very similar and I scoured the internet for noir/cthulhu/steampunk and nothing good came up so just used a modified doppleganster token.

Cards I'd vote for if I weren't an asshole who only votes for himself:
Ancient Portal - A good and flavorful take on the Portal mechanic. The only bad this is that it's the Dark Portal on the artwork. Also the text could be formatted better.
Safeguard the Temple - My wild card (sorry Lathy!). It promotes a new type of C'Thun dekc so I like it.
Honorable Mentions:
Goon of C'Thun: I made a card with a nearly identical effect. Great minds think alike I guess, however it is very weak. Both C'Thun and handbuff target minions are supposed to have vanilla stats while this is a 1mana 1/1.
I would also like to react to comments on the discussion thread saying my theme was boring or restrictive (@AngryChicken was away most of the time so my theme ended up being chosen). It was precisely part of the challenge to come up with an original C'Thun card, I wanted to see if some people could come up with different styles of C'Thun decks.

Guess the experiment kinda failed, if u liked only 2 cards :D

Safeguard the Temple (?): It looks like a rly cool card, but i cant rly tell if its balanced or not, that would require a lot more thinking and research than im willing to do at this hour, sorry :D
Clearly it's balanced, and awesome! Don't worry, I did a bunch of research.

I voted for ancient portal and safeguard the temple. I like ancient portal the best.
I was really close to voting for Goon also. I thought the Silithid was too powerful for the price with taunt and the beast tag, but Goon was much closer to balanced. Still, I would have liked Goon better if it was a battlecry and not a deathrattle, so that the boost was limited to hand-buffing (maybe change base stats to 2/1 or add some other benefit to compensate).
I was surprised to see that cards that hurt C'thun made it, despite the extensive discussion in the discussion thread that these cards would trigger even without C'thun in your deck with no penalty (seems to be an end run around this weeks theme).
Cards I really didn't like were Quiet worshiper, which is just insanely way too powerful (should be limited to silencing friendlies) and Masked Fanatics just because I don't think Paladin should have hard removal.
The rest I thought were ok. And to defend Cheese, I regularly still play C'thun decks and thought the theme was fun and a nice break from all the speculation around new keywords/themes for the upcoming set.
The only card that has more votes than mine was Hexed Cultist, which is also present. So I don't know what you were smoking but it was probably not legal.
Guess the experiment kinda failed, if u liked only 2 cards :D
Actually there were a lot of good cards I liked that didn't make it. I love fan cards that make fringe archetypes viable!
I initially wasn't much for this prompt, but there were some quite good entries to be honest, and I ended up voting for three cards at the same page of mine - a thing that happens very rarely ;)
Goon of C'thun has my vote. Not the best of chicken's puns, but still has a nice word play, nice effect and nice balance :)
EDIT: I think it's a shame to prostpone the competition just a few hours. Yeah, I know it's because of expansion, I just wish you'd short down the vote time instead.
Safeguard the Temple - My wild card (sorry Lathy!). It promotes a new type of C'Thun dekc so I like it.
Haha, not worries :D I liked my card, but it just didn't have that special ring to it! Hope I'll do better in the next one! Just glad you used your wild card!
