Given that hero cards are legendaries, and therefore you can only use one copy of them, I'm guessing that there will be some sort of fix in order for you to be able to more consistently draw and play those cards. That could happen trough some sort of minion that has a "draw a hero card" text, or something of the likes. Another possibility would be other effects that turn you into the DK version of your hero, and this made me think how I'd design that card. Here it is:
To be honest, the cost and the stats probably aren't ideal, but I did want to give Tirion Fordring a nod. Maybe more than one, lol.
The idea here is to work a bit with flavour, instead of divine shield and taunt, he has poisonous. Also, once you use the power of frostmourne, you become enslaved to it, like Arthas did (or ar least I think that happened, lol, I'm not too sure on the lore, but if I remember correctly there was a small period between claiming the sword and actually becoming lich king).
I'm sure there have been tons of Lich King cards created, but this one can now realistically be considered given that we now know that each hero will have his DK form.
1. I think it's pretty obvious the hero legendaries will be the only way to transform into a Death Knight. Otherwise, why would there be just 1 of them for each class and why make them different than the other legendaries if you could just have 1 (or more) neutrals to transform any hero (which isn't as cool imo)
2. This card seems pretty OP to me, Tirion but you change the Taunt and Divine Shield to +2/2, poisonous (on the card AND the weapon) and changing your hero power to a probably very strong one (i wonder if you would also get the armor you get for playing heroes cards?
And it's also neutral and if you get it golden you can become a golden death knight for any class.
EDIT: Also, what do you mean by the "1 in 30 chance" ???
Lol, I got carried away and made his stats 8/8! Didn't mean to, I wanted to make him a "mirror" version of Tirion, he should be 6/6 x)
I actually though of it transforming you into exactly the version of the DK you would normally by using your classes hero card. Also you wouldn't get the armor or the 2 AoE damage from Rexxar, for example. You just turn into DK mode, meaning you get the hero power.
Yes, the golden version would be very cool.
Edit: I was eluding to the fact you only have one hero card in your 30 card deck. As I mentioned, that might be a problem if there are no ways to fetch the hero card, or have some alternative way to get to DK mode, if you want to build around that effect.
I understand 1 in 30 is equivalent to the chance of drawing one card out of 30 alone, and does not equate to what happens when you draw 15~20 cards throughout the average hearthstone game :P
DK Rexxar doesn't gain 5 armor, he has base 5 armor. It's like Rag has base 8 health and every time you turn into him you return to 8 health.
Frostmourne also has 3 uses here, meaning you would turn into a DK three times. Even if that didn't give you armor it would still allow you to double DK hero power on the second and third turns.
And your 1/30 makes no sense. Its a 6 cost card, meaning you get 3 cards in first hand +6 drawn so a 9/30 chance to play it on curve, 10/30 if you go second. And that's assuming zero draw power played before then.
DK Rexxar doesn't gain 5 armor, he has base 5 armor. It's like Rag has base 8 health and every time you turn into him you return to 8 health.
What is the evidence for that? Because Majordomo Executus doesn't mention the base health on Rag, meaning it truly is base health. DK rexxar, being independent from the hero card itself, after all the hero doesn't really has anything to to with 2 AoE damage, gains the extra armour from the hero card. You transform, and you get 2 extra effects: the armour and the AoE damage. I guess Jaraxxus supports your argument a little better, but still, there is no way to know for sure, unless you've seen some statement they made I haven't.
I thought about adding the "unless you're already a death knight", but the space is small, and HS cards usually don't really explain everything anyway.
It makes SOME sense, I understand your point, I responded to it on my last post :P
The Lich King - 1 mana 1/1 Charge Poisonous "Whenever you play a hero card, summon this minion from your deck. This card is always the last card in your deck."
It's true it makes more sense, but maybe they just wanted to make it look easier to understand, but it actually doesn't ? You know so the battlecry is just the 1 part and how much armor you gain is easily visible.
I think the devs used "gain armor" when talking about hero cards (not sure tho) and i saw some dev's reply (maybe ben brode) that jaraxxus won't become a hero card as it's quite different (he changes your hp instead of adding to it) so that might also confirm it adds 5 armor
It would also seem like a possibly big drawback to some warrior decks/maybe druids
It seems self explanatory. The armor is on the Hero itself, if it was part of the effect then it would say in the effect "Gain 5 armor".
I mean there's not any way to test it as of right now but it makes more sense to me that way.
Yeah, that's more solid reasoning. Maybe the choice not to add it in the textbox was born from the fear of a potential future card that would have too much text already outside of "Gain X armour", but I admit this would be a sketchy line.
Regardless, the idea I had was to simply transform the hero while not getting anything else other than the new hero power, and once you become a DK the effect doesn't repeat, so no hero power refresh either. Idk, I kinda like the idea, it's tons of flavour, that's for sure. The specifics could use a rework, obviously.
A card to draw the hero card would be nice but nonetheless Justicar Trueheart was very important in decks like control warrior as well and was drawn often enough to provide good results.
True. But the DK hero powers seem a lot more "build around" than trueheart, who only really made the basic hero power more efficient, not changing it dramatically.
Reno was a build around card and had no draw mechanic at all and it was still drawn quite consistant, Sure aggro decks could end the game either before you drew it or sometimes even before turn 6 and that will still be the same case with hero cards is my guess, Survive long enough you'll draw it but if the enemy draws theirs earlier it could be game over, Alot like Justicar really where the first warrior to draw it generally won the game.
What i find most interesting regarding these hero cards are things like Thoughtsteal, Mind Vision, The discover cards, A card like Rexxar for example may not suit a hunter due to it looking like a control card but a priest getting that is going to very interesting even more so if its a Kazakus priest with a 0 cost hero power, A priest for example could thoughtsteal a Warriors hero card use it until they draw their own, Use that and then using a Kabal Courier discover a Warlock or Mage hero card and use that, That is going to make things very interesting unlike the quests these hero cards have the potential to turn up in places you never expected, Prepare for a Mages hero card for example only for them to discover a Warlock one and completely change how you have to approach that matchup.
True. I also considered the hero cards ending up being played by other classes and it really could spice the game up. Sadly I don't think you'll be able to do it consistently, as even in the event of them creating a "discover a hero card", you'll still be unable to build around a specific one.
Still, as we don't know what cards they have up their sleeve, there is sure hope for some interesting interactions. I'm just going to try not to get my hopes too high because I realize it's a bit unlikely they go so wild as to give us tools to use any hero card on any class at will... but I wouldn't be surprised to see a version of what Mr. Finley does, a way to randomly get another DK hero power.
They're swing cards. They aren't meant to be played in every game. It's possible that they're going to make a pretty aggressive push against aggro again with the curve peaking at 6 with the new dk cards which is great. No one wants games decided on turn 1-4 and likely knew what they were going to do with it.
This is going to be the best expansion yet.
