Discussion Topic Rules
To make sure that everything runs smoothly, we need to reserve the Submission Topic for submissions only. Everything else goes here. What is everything else, you might ask?
Rules or Process. Do you have a question about the competition's process? Do you need clarification about one of the entry requirements? Are you not sure whether your entry adhered to the rules? Ask here!
Feedback or Ideas. Do you have some ideas you'd like to run by others before settling on one? Do you need help balancing or wording your entry? Do you need help finding art that will fit your card? Or do you just want feedback from the community on your entry? You're in the right place! Remember, although you are allowed to make minor tweaks to your entry after you've submitted it, you're only allowed one submission per week, so make sure that you've settled on your card for sure beforehand.
Discussion! Do you have thoughts on other people's entries? Are there directions you don't like that you're seeing too many people take? Or directions you'd like to see more people take? Would you like to help others and contribute to a greater community understanding of Hearthstone card design and balance? This is where you want to be!
All of that said, please refrain from the following:
Posting TONS of Ideas. Discussion topics become an absolute mess if everybody is posting a dozen different ideas. Please post not more than 3 distinct ideas at a time. Any more than that and we'll have to delete your post.
Advertising Your Entry. Please don't pop in here just to advertise your entry only to never be heard from again. This includes only asking short, generic, or insincere questions like "Thoughts?" or "Do you think this is interesting?". Yes, getting feedback on your entry is one of the purposes of this topic, but we're not just here for other people to help you. We're here for you all to help each other. 12 hours after this competition begins, there should be plenty of other posts here for you to give specific feedback or for you to comment on a trend. If you post your entry for feedback after this time and do not also offer some form of substantial commentary, critique, or praise of others' work, you may find your post deleted.
Plagiarism. Many people post their ideas here before finalizing them in the submission topic. Directly plagiarizing those ideas to post in the submission topic yourself is absolutely not acceptable.

Don't even bother sitting down, because you'll just stand right up when you see these:
The Vengeful spells are all Rare spells which focus on the power of the Cost of the last friendly minion that died this game. You take the soul and energy of one of your fallen comrades and use them to enact vengeance on your opponent for killing them and avenging their death. The bigger the minion, the most powerful these spells will be.
I'm planning on having some sort of way of the card telling you the power like how Spell Damage changes the numbers in your spells, how Jade Golem cards tell you the stats of your next Jade Golem, or how Shifter Zerus has an aura around it in your hand when it transforms.

So its 3x as much work this week? Not sure I like the idea of the weekly card design competition requiring more than a single card. This feels more like a prompt in the larger expansion/adventure/class competitions. And the "cycle" terminology is really vague. Are pandaren cards a "cycle"? C'thun cards? Ragers? Shadow word: XX cards? Is it just anything with similar mechanics?
Feels like the prompt this week is, first, design one card with no restrictions or prompt at all and then, second, also design two similar cards.

really like the idea; but you might wanna change the last one to "vengeful empowerment" or "vengeful power" or something similar; just saying.
"If your C'Thun has at least 10 Attack, do this." (actually, this is not a cycle because it's part of a core theme in the expansion).
Among others.
Just a very small set of cards that have the same type of effect handled in various different ways. Notice anything in common? Most of these don't use both Neutral and class cards, it's usually only one or the other. In the event that they use classes, no class in the cycle gets more than 1 card. Ragers could technically be considered a cycle, but just stray away from this. Please. They were also made within multiple sets and weren't intended to be a cycle in the first place. They aren't any main core themes either, they're just short little sets (so Jade Golems wouldn't be cycle because they're a larger focus of a card set, representing the entire Jade Lotus set in MSoG).

Technically, the Tar Elementals do use both Neutral and class cards. And the Shadow Word cycle is used more than once in Priest.
It's really just a set of similar cards with similar mechanics. :)

This is similar to a keyword theme a while back when you had to design a keyword and three cards for it. So, it's not too far fetched.
A Cycle is literally any set of cards with a similar mechanical theme. It's a common technique used in card design to make sets of cards. It's the reason why MTG expansions usually have 150-200 cards in them.
So, no, Pandaren are not a cycle because they only share a flavourful theme. Ragers are a cycle because they share a similar mechanic (They have stats that are similar to 5/1s). Shadow Word: XX cards are also a cycle (they all destroy minions based on the minions' attack). C'thun cards aren't really a cycle because they are too diverse (Blade of C'Thun is WAY different then Twilight Elder).
Other cycles include the Giants, Gadgetzan cards that gain +X/+X under certain conditions (Cryomancer, Luckydo Buccaneer, Celestial Dreamer, and the Trogg cards from Goblins vs Gnomes (they all gain Attack when your opponent plays a spell).
This is the Discussion Topic. The Submission Topic is here.

can we have more than 3 cards?
So we need to create a card that does something. Does something else. Then does something else?
A quite bigger-ish competition. I like it.
would the gagetzan legendaries that required your deck to have no duplicates be considered a cycle?

So, since some people are confused as to what a cycle is, here are some examples of cards that could vaguely be considered a cycle:
