VOTING INFO:
Voting will take place over a 48-hour period.
The 22 valid entries are posted anonymously, in the order in which they were submitted.
Results will be posted on Thursday, June 8th no later than 7pm EST.
DESIGN PROMPT:
Design a NON-LEGENDARY minion, spell, or weapon that references a specificcollectible card in the game (it can reference itself). More info can be found in the Discussion Thread!
Thank you to all of the participants for making this a great mini-competition!!!
Because this was such a success (if I do say so myself) I'm considering doing a couple more mini-competitions between now and Season 6. It sounds like the mods are planning to announce the big mid-season competition in a few weeks, so there's a bit of time for some more unofficial fun! I'm not completely sure yet, so feel free to let me know in the comments if you're down for more. Thanks again, and happy voting!
ps - entrants: if you see a mistake, please PM me. Also, if you would like to break anonymity to give some info/explanation on your card, feel free to do so here in the comments!!
Devoted Dancer would've been so cool if the creator didn't add the "Stealth" part... :(
I don't think the Stealth would actually do anything since C'Thun's Battlecry deals damage, and Stealth minions don't have to attack to get rid of Stealth, but just dealing damage. If you have a Stealthed Flamewaker, then cast a spell, Flamewaker's effect triggers and then it loses Stealth because it dealt damage.

This was great for a non-Official contest. The entry period was short, which led to a few rushed/sloppy designs, but otherwise it was a fun prompt and good process. I might review all the cards later when I have time.

To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of the women.

It's a battlecry, are you really sure it triggers stealth?
I'm 100% sure C'Thun would lose the Stealth after it's played. Do you notice that there's not a single Stealth minion in the game with an effect that deals damage? This is why.

I'm gonna be honest, I'm kind of unimpressed with most of these. I only voted for Gorishi Lookout, Throat Slitter, and Idol Worship.
Treacherous Shadowpriest is cute thematically, but it has wording issues and is also almost definitely overpowered. In another class, a 2-mana 4/4 with a similar effect might not be so bad, but in priest, who has on-demand healing thanks to its hero power, it's going to trade extremely effectively and efficiently through the early game with almost nothing to stop it.
Call of the Auchenai I just don't think makes sense thematically. I know Evolve and Devolve exist, similarly nonsensical transformation effects which I'm also not a fan of, but this is somehow even worse for being so specific.
I've just seen way too many similar "infinite" minions in all of our WCDCs, and I don't think Endless Elemental is particularly clever.
Cool Defender is funny, but it's too hilariously specific to be practical.
I'm not sure why Voodoocaller Mask is a minion rather than a spell. If it's supposed to be animated or something, the art and stats don't do a very good job of conveying that.
With regards to Inferno Lash, something about altering the base card bothers me, like that makes it feel like it only references the base card at all in order to fit the competition criteria. I think this would have come across a lot cleaner if it were re-balanced and just put a Fire Fly in your hand without cost or other alteration.
Fiery Pup is adorable, but that seems to be all that it has going for it. The simplicity is endearing, but I don't feel any particular thematic connection between the corgi and the Fire Fly, like I do with the Gorishi Lookout and the Giant Wasp.
I'm not convinced that Void Harbinger counts. Yes, Shadowform is the name of a card, but it's also just the name of the form that card creates, and this appears to be in reference to the form rather than the card. Plus, Shadowform synergy has kind of been done, and I don't think this does it in any particularly clever or innovative way.
Part of me really wants to like Target Practice because it's so thematically well-done, but every time I look at that wall-of-text I just can't bring myself to vote for it because I think it strains too hard the limits of what's a believably complex effect for this game.
Rentless Rat is... just good for deck-thinning? Is that it? If there's more, then I don't get it.
Zephyr seems just ill-conceived. Like, I'd rather just put a Kobold Geomancer in my deck. Then my Lightning Storms are guaranteed to do 3 damage but might also even do 4, and at the cost of only 1 Attack.
Teebu Longsword is another card that I just think is far too wordy and complex to be believable.
Assist-Imp has the same problem as the Fiery Pup. The simplicity is endearing, but I don't feel any particular thematic connection between it and the cards it references.
Even beyond my not being sure if it's just a meme, Full Northshire seems like a bad idea balance-wise. I don't see how Priests being able to stock their decks with 6 Northshire Clerics couldn't be problematic.
Lunatic Gaze kind of ruins the whole fun of Yogg-Saron.
Explore GvG is just like that one weekly brawl that sounded fun at first but that ended up being awful because it was so slow, and then they redid it but with spells in your deck to make it not as terrible. Maybe if this only replaced your minions it might be more interesting.
I'm not sure why Malicious Rogue references Betrayal other than to fulfill the competition criteria. If it existed, it would probably just say "Battlecry: Force a random enemy minion to deal its damage to the minions next to it."
Elven Armies would be cool in Rogue because it has bounce potential, but in Hunter it seems kind of pointless for it to summon Elven Archer rather than just summon 1/1 vanilla minions.
As mentioned above, Devoted Dancer's Stealth is kind of pointless unless youplan on getting C'Thun out with Alarm-o-bot or something, and even then C'Thun synergy seems like a cop-out take on this design challenge since it's something that's already done extensively in the game.
Why is this anonymous? Everyone can just go to discussion thread and see your card, and the normal competitions aren't anonymous. Anyways, I'm voting for the totally awesome card, Throat Slitter. So edgy. I bet the anonymous dude who made the card is so cool, just like the card. Wow. Also it's so balanced and fun and stuff. I'm voting for it and am definitely not biased because I am the one who made it because it is anonymous so you can't tell by looking in discussion thread.

Livienna said that it counted and she made the competition, so... yeah, you can't really argue with that.
I did consider making it so it would deal damage (probably 3) or some other effect or some other effect. Would you have like it better if I did it like that?
And yes, Void Harbinger is my card.

Thanks Asylum for doing that review!! Would love to hear what you liked about the 3 you ended up voting for :)
I agree that the entries are a bit all over the place. The prompt provides a large design space, and you have to be smart about editing, and also balancing flavor with practicality.

Please vote for it
I have low self esteem
I voted for you! It's an interesting card that's self contradictory, but that's not a bad thing! It's clever and expands on Rogue's single target damage and combo effects as it's impossible for you to use it to hit a target for 4 damage in one go.
I also voted for Target Practice I agree with Asylum's assessment of it, but the flavor is just too great.

I see your point Asylum, but I did end up deciding thatShadowform itself meets the criteria for the competition, thus, this entry does as well. Perhaps if this was a WCDC mods would have decided differently, but yeah. I made a call ;)
I don't really get how Teebu Longsword is complex. A bit of a mouthful, but it only takes a few seconds to read and consequently understand. Instead of attacking with the weapon whatever you target gets Fireball cast at it and you can't use spells. Hardly what I would consider 'complex' by the definition of the word.
Nor do I get how Target Practice could be considered complex.
Dang, now that @Asylum has said it, it really looks weird to alter the Fire Fly's cost to (0) in Inferno Lash. It would be cleaner to make it a 3 mana weapon with a Fire Fly to your hand. This way, on turn 4 you would have a guaranteed Elemental Synergy + a kick-ass weapon to hit some fac.....oops, I mean minions.
The card was all about the turn 4 elemental synergy curving perfectly into a turn 5 Servant of Kalimos.

Perhaps 'complex' is the wrong word. Their card text is lengthy, and they both feel like they're doing way too much to be a realistically simple Hearthstone card because of it. In actuality, their effects are understandable, but parsing that amount of text isn't fun. I must admit, if a card has too much text I just don't read it and therefore don't vote for it.

This is so cool. Keep being awesome @Livienna!
Also I created Teebu Longsword, so some info:
when you attack you hit the character deal 0 damage, take its atack to your face (if it was a minion) then cast fireball.
And yes, the fireball will be buffed by spell damage but won't take away 4 mana, aka the same rules as yogg's spells.
Mod Working Reaaaaally Hardly
Cool Defender's effect seems pretty useless. It counter only 1 card, from 1 class, out of 9 classes.
Playing since 1 June 2014.

Isn't it useless? Because stealth breaks upon dealing damage, itc c'thuns battlecry.

So Relentless Rat is pretty useless right? Also not sure it fits into the competition's parameters.
