What? You didn't think we'd forget about an upcoming expansion, did you? For this week, your card art must depict a Dinosaur. "Dinosaur" scientifically refers to a specific classification of prehistoric animals (You can find more info here), but we're willing to broaden the definition to accept other classic prehistoric animals like Pterosaurs, Plesiosaurs, Dimetrodons, and even Trilobites. However, we will not allow more recent animals to qualify, like Mammoths, Sabre-Tooth Cats, or Birds, nor will we allow modern animals that have simply been around since prehistoric times, like Sharks or Dragonflies.
Your card must also be a beast itself, interact with beasts, or produce a beast (token or card). If it produces a card that depicts a dinosaur, in accordance with the first restriction, it needn't necessarily depict one itself.
We have whittled down ~110 valid entries to just 12 of the community's favorites. Check out all the finalists below and vote in our poll (vote for as many or as few as you like) to help decide the winner and be sure to check back after the poll finishes for the announcement of the winner and the start of a new theme! NOTE: Cards with a black border have additional material, like explanations or unique tokens, located in a spoiler at the bottom of the finalist gallery. They are listed in order of position in the final poll.
Hi all! Good to be in the finals, thanks for your upvotes!! :D Just a few words about my entry, the "Oncurvasaur":
I know it feels like one of those "OP in opening hand, garbage if not" type cards, but I want to point out that it's NOT a game winning turn 2 play. This is merely a strong, focused card draw, similar to the upcoming Shadow Visions and especially Arcanologist, which is a turn 2 play that draws a turn 3 play like my card (and just for the record, both of those cards were revealed after I posted my card ;D). The Discover effect means you can build your deck to focus the draw, which, by the way, totally makes Shadowform viable. And the body, even with the draw on turn 2, is still way slower than, say, Totem Golem or the pirate package.
Not to mention it's doable in the late game, with the new Priest quest reward resetting health! ;) Thanks and good luck to all!!
A lot of people failed to make what I felt was an Un'goro card. Cards like Manasaur and Oncurvasaur are generic design that have dinosaur art and 'saur' lazily tacked onto their names. If you're going to make a dinosaur card, it should make sense as a dinosaur, and it should make sense within the themes of Un'goro. Granted, we don't know all of them yet, but an effort should have at least been made. I like the cards that used Adapt the best, Charles Darwinsaur and Alyssa. Charles Darwinsaur may be too powerful compared to the Justicar Hero Power, but it's a good idea.
Voted for Darwin. Nothing else so far. Might well add Terrorsaur or Alyssa or a couple others.
Very much agreeing with Nurgling about the thematic appropriateness of some cards. If they feel like they could be in any of the other expansions I'm probably not going to vote for them because it sort of, goes against the point of the original topic. There's lots of great designs knocking about just none that fit properly.
Do you know how much time was put into trying to balance this?!?!
Jokes aside, it was a hard card to balance. It started out as a 5 mana 3/2 EPIC, which was very nicely pointed out to be broken as hell. ( Thanks to @Maxlot @Aeson88 and @Livenna for kindly pointing it out) and was nerfed a few times until it reached this.
The problem with the card ( In my eyes) is that it has two REALLY strong adaptations. 4/5 meh ones, and 3/4 ones that is on par with justicar. The really strong ones being the Poisonous one, and the Deathrattle.
But yeah, it might be slightly over the top still.
Clever Girl because it's mine, fuck you. (FYI the discover interface would be identical to a normal one however it won't be added to your hand like a normal deathrattle. The minion would be revealed once the deathrattle is triggered to avoid any confusions).
Manasaurus: Like a lot of people, I love this card. It's original, useful and flavorful. I said in the discussion topic that it will be this week's winner, however that was before I saw...
On-call Mount: This is almost perfect. Flavor, originality, balance, usefulness in the actual game. Everything is here. Just one thing: "ShowS up"! I assume it also works even if this card wouldn't otherwise be eligible for the discover effect?
Honorable mentions:
Covert operaptor has a nice concept but it's underpowered and the art isn't great.
Where is Mount Up ? I loved the card. If I knew I would have wildcarded it. I should pay more attention to WCDCs.

Yeah, it is hard to balance it against Justicar, which is why I still think it's the best card this week even though it's maybe a little too powerful. Granted, it should be at least a little more powerful, since Justicar is neutral and this is a class card.
I can't argue at all with the point that my card (as well as a few others) are not exactly in the spirit of the competition this week :P It's a totally fair point, and I certainly would not be surprised if this keeps me out of the running for the win.
Some really cool concepts this week. I especially like Toxibrah's entry and SvagoCorp's entry! :)
I'm not going to go hard on the thematic hits this week because personally I felt that this weeks theme was really restricting, and it led to a bunch of redundant cards. I feel like weekly comps need more space to breathe rather than shoving everyone through a sorter so their left with 2 ideas in the end, so to speak.
With that my favorites this week are Oncurvasaur, because it is a creative way to emphasize its effect (I mean we have cards like Doppelgangster for crying out loud it doesn't need to be a straight minion out of Un'Goro...), and it is really creative.
Clever Girl although kinda weird is pointing directly at Jurassic World without blatantly saying it. And I like the effect, so it gets my vote
Darwinsaur JUST made my vote, and its only because it will only be playable with handbuffs, which is ridiculous, but at the same time makes me realize that summoning better-than-just-1/1's in a Goons deck may actually help it. I know this wasn't intended but that's how i'll interpret it.
On-Call Mount also just squeaked by, because a 5/5 for 5 is pretty meh, and seeing as you don't discover a lot in a game, all its really doing is messing up your discover cards. I give it credit though because it won't forever show up there but it really feel like half the time it would only be a hassle to play.
The rest in my opinion were either badly balanced or not interesting enough.

Doppelgangster is a clever pun on Doppelganger. Oncurvasaur isn't a pun at all, and I don't see how the name could be considered creative.
A smaller competition than we normally have, but I feel we were able to get some decent ideas. My personal favourites are Clever Girl and Manasaurus. I love the idea of playing against Clever Girl, and being terrified of some sylvanas effect, when the person only grabbed card draw. Manasarus is just very flavourful, taking the magical dinosaurs we saw in the trailer and strongly attaching it to druid.
Wow - i really feel honored to find my entry here among the finalists, although it feels kinda cheap given the circumstances. Plus it was also one of those cards which don't necessarily qualify as 'Un'goro-specific' cards.
I agree that some potential in 'exploring' Un'goro designwise was possibly wasted this week (myself included), but also, with restrictions as loose as this time, i don't think you can really hold that against people. After all, if you are given too much freedom with your designs, it can end up being more of a hindrance than some nice and tight specifications. Also it seemed to me like simply smacking 'Adapt' onto a card would qualify as 'authentic Un'goro' for some people (that's just my perception though) - and i don't really think that does it.
That being said i really like how Toxibrah and Puple handled the new mechanic with Darwinsaur and Alyssa. :)

No, it's not a pun. I just thought it was a funny name, and I liked how if you're a casual HS player who doesn't know what "on curve" means, you read it as just a weird dinosaur name (no weirder than, say, "stegosaurus", which is what is pictured). I had no idea the silly name I picked would be so loved by some and hated by others :/ well, I hope I didn't lose people's respect with my entry this week. I'm proud of a lot of my creations and I hope you won't hold one that you didn't care for against me xD

I'm not holding it against you. Everyone has their own taste in humor and naming things, and I present my views pretty bluntly in these topics. Your card is a good design, I just dislike the name and I don't feel like it fits this week's theme well, particularly when compared to Toxicbrah's and PupleMD's cards. I generally value fitting the theme pretty highly compared to most people.
A lot of people failed to make what I felt was an Un'goro card. Cards like Manasaur and Oncurvasaur are generic design that have dinosaur art and 'saur' lazily tacked onto their names. Goodluck to everyone, and may the best card win :)
How much exactly did we know about the expansion prior to this competition? We've seen a few cards with Adapt, and you think everything should have it? IF everybody went with Adapt, wouldn't that be boring as hell? How many cards with Adapt have we've seen released lately? You're entitled to your opinion, but you're not judging fairly if you think every card in an expansion should have that specific keyword to fit this themes restrictions. You could name a lot of cards in the other expansions that doesn't fit in at all, at least these cards does so.

Yeah, I really wanted to see people use the new keyword in clever ways, like Toxicbrah and Puple did. I was disappointed that so few people did. I mean, why would you pass up the opportunity to use something new? If you didn't use Adapt, you should have a thematic reason why your card is a dinosaur, like with Terrorsaur. That one makes sense because the T. Rex is scaring away the minions. It's probably my third favorite card this week. I just don't think a T. Rex minion fits the theme of Rogue, although the mechanic does. Pterrordactyl made the effort to tie the mechanic into its flavor. Bloodthirsty Devilsaur makes some sense, too. But what do Oncurvasaur and Manasaur have to do with dinosaurs besides their art?

I have the exact opposite feeling about Adapt. We don't even know all the options yet, right? Seems like you're designing blindly. Also, I'm not crazy about adapt. I expect the majority of interesting uses will be explored within Un'goro's cards. I don't see it having much life beyond Un'goro, like Discover or Inspire do.
I do agree that many entries this week didn't feel "dinosaury". I wrote at length in the discussion why I don't like Oncurvasaur (it seems broken, lacks rng appropriate for discover, creates a pun out of a HS meme some people feel negatively about), so I won't dive back into that.
Manasaur... I think I can get behind the concept. One of the themes they're going for with Adapt is that Dinosaurs have absorbed elemental energy, so I could see Manasaur following that theme. The art fits as well. In terms of balance... I couldn't say without testing it. But I think it'd fit nicely into Egg-Druid type decks.
Un'goro Couple is an interesting concept. It's a card you wouldn't actually put in your deck, but would only want to discover. Thats kind of strange, so my only real suggestion would be to make it a common and not a rare. It'd kind of stink to pull these in packs, or to see them in an arena draft, so I wouldn't have them eat up Rare spots.
Jurassic Pals is a pretty common sense card. I'm not crazy about it, but I could see it making some kind of Beast Priest deck. You'd get more control over what is resurrected through the beast tribe, but you also need to play and kill 3 beasts worth resurrecting.
I'm not totally crazy about any of the entries this week, none of them make me go "WOW", but maybe that's good. I'm giving votes to Manasaur, Un'goro Couple and Jurassic Pals.

I'm skeptical of the balance of Terrorsaur, but its a pretty awesome card regardless.
On-Call Mount is just excellent though. Uses some of the discover theme of Un'goro, and involves riding a dinosaur.
