Hello everybody! This topic is for discussion of our "Back to Basics" mini-competition. To make sure that everything runs smoothly, we need to reserve the Submission Topic for submissions only. Everything else goes here. What is everything else, you might ask?
Rules or Process. Do you have a question about the competition's process? Do you need clarification about one of the entry requirements? Are you not sure whether your entry adhered to the rules? Ask here!
Feedback or Ideas. Do you have some ideas you'd like to run by others before settling on one? Do you need help balancing or wording your entry? Do you need help finding art that will fit your card? Or do you just want feedback from the community on your entry? You're in the right place! Remember, although you are allowed to make minor tweaks to your entry after you've submitted it, you're only allowed one submission per week, so make sure that you've settled on your card for sure beforehand.
Discussion! Do you have thoughts on other people's entries? Are there directions you don't like that you're seeing too many people take? Or directions you'd like to see more people take? Would you like to help others and contribute to a greater community understanding of Hearthstone card design and balance? This is where you want to be!
All of that said, please refrain from the following:
Posting TONS of Ideas. Discussion topics become an absolute mess if everybody is posting a dozen different ideas. Please post not more than 3 distinct ideas at a time. Any more than that and we'll have to delete your post.
Advertising Your Entry. Please don't pop in here just to advertise your entry only to never be heard from again. This includes only asking short, generic, or insincere questions like "Thoughts?" or "Do you think this is interesting?". Yes, getting feedback on your entry is one of the purposes of this topic, but we're not just here for other people to help you. We're here for you all to help each other. 12 hours after this competition begins, there should be plenty of other posts here for you to give specific feedback or for you to comment on a trend. If you post your entry for feedback after this time and do not also offer some form of substantial commentary, critique, or praise of others' work, you may find your post deleted.
Plagiarism. Many people post their ideas here before finalizing them in the submission topic. Directly plagiarizing those ideas to post in the submission topic yourself is absolutely not acceptable.
So, without further ado, have fun and get creating!
This could prove interesting. We've had plenty of competitions before where we were forced to reference or produce existing cards of some kind, but this is the first time I believe we've been restricted to basic cards. The stress for simplicity is part of the theme here, then, I think. Still, that's 90 cards to pick from, and a lot of potentially interesting ways to use them in new, innovative ways...
Ok, here are the ideas I am going on with, please, I think I am gonna require a bit of feedback.
Chilltail Guide was one of the first cards that came to my mind with this competition, I remember making it before, but now I feel that it would really fit in Midrange Shaman, although it comes pretty late, the value it provides, a must to kill minion for spells, that gives you some board control is ALWAYS nice. Card that adds: Frost Shock
Protectorade Guard is pretty basic, but yet effective, even more with the new cards, growing more now and on, and having Taunt means Bolster or Stolen Goods synergy, having a strong minion with a moderatedly powerfull effect, very effective on a control or Pirate Deck. Card that adds: Fiery War Axe (Yeah, I haven´t modified this card since I made it, so I am planning of fixing the error)
Garhk is one of the cards that more costed me to think about it, but then I thought about discard, that was the idea I kept in mind, and about over costed cards that gave you some benefits, strong minion... that feeling, but this LORD will transform ANY non-demon you draw into Succubus, so reminder, it feeds your discards! But also! Try to play this on discardlock, it doesn´t fits in anymore deck since of the core Non-demon cards for those decks. Card Generated: Succubus. (Yeah I think that it doesn´t requires to go Bolded Succubus :v)
Is it only 90? The rules never specified the basic class card had to be collectible.
It's always been my interpretation that rarity only practically applies to collectible cards, but I'll edit the rules to make it more clear that we are talking about collectible cards only, yes.

90 Cards?
Competition-Specific Restrictions:
Your card must refer to or produce a specific Basic class card

There are 9 classes and each has 10 Basic cards, no?

90 class cards plus the neutrals, so 133 according to the wiki!

TheBeaverKing specified, and it says in the restrictions, only class cards. =)

Actually they are 45.
(God, I thought by the number you refered both Neutral and Class ones XD, my folks, sorry)

I believe you are mistaken. Each class starts with 5 "free" Basic cards and gets its remaining 5 Basic cards while leveling up to 10. But those level-up cards are still Basic.

This is true. (Which is good cause we have more cards to choose from!)

Why the hell then it doesn´t shows me the cards that are unlocked by leveling?
God, you are true :v, but why the leveling up cards didn´t showed to me while searching for basic cards?
Well there's a lot of discussion of what constitutes basic, but I've got a different question about mechanics. Here's an edited version of my Garona concept...
Are we allowing Discover effects in this competition? I mainly ask because of the "specific cards" line.

I would assume not. Specific cards means the basic cards are listed in the submitted card.
The first one allows you to get out a number of Demons for cheap, but your opponent can destroy one of his choice, while also getting 5 Health. The second one is a quirky type of removal. You choose an enemy minion, and a random friendly minion gets chosen. They both deal their combat damage to each other (so you can use this to go around Taunt). If exactly one of them survives, it transforms into Lord of the Arena, which has Taunt Warrior synergy.
EDIT: Oops, just realized it has to be class cards. Wasted all that time trying to figure out the effect for Duel and how to word it...

Very creative theme, this should fester up some interesting ideas.

Looks like I missed the Class requirement and a bunch of messages while I posted. 90 class basic cards it is then.

Sacrificial Pact, Lord of the Arena
