This is the Discussion Topic. The Submission Topic will go up in 24 hours.
Competition Theme: Spelling Bee
This week's Card Design Competition Theme comes from Lathy, whose Lord Victor Nefarious was the winner of our "Choose Your Weapon" competition.
Competition-Specific Restrictions:
Your card must either have or specifically interact with Spell Damage. (By specifically, we mean that it can't, for example, just be a spell that deals damage.)
Preview Phase (Starts Now! Ends 19:00 UTC 1/September/2016) During this Phase, the Discussion Topic is made available, previewing this week's competition theme. Entry and Early Voting Phase (Starts 19:00 UTC 1/September/2016, Ends 17:00 UTC 5/September/2016) During this Phase, the Submission Topic is made available for your submissions. You may also, of course, feel free to give early up-votes to any submissions that you like! Voting Phase (Starts 17:00 UTC 5/September/2016, Ends 17:00 UTC 6/September/2016) During this Phase, the Submission Topic will be locked, so no more entries may be submitted. Instead, use this time to browse the submissions and up-vote your favorites! Final Phase (Starts 18:00 UTC 6/September/2016, Ends 18:00 UTC 7/September/2016) During this Phase, the Discussion Topic will also be locked, and a new Poll Topic will go up. Discussion will be allowed to continue in the Poll Topic, and it will also include all the qualifying finalists and poll to decide the winner of the competition!
Discussion Topic Rules
To make sure that everything runs smoothly, we need to reserve the Submission Topic for submissions only. Everything else goes here. What is everything else, you might ask?
Rules or Process. Do you have a question about the competition's process? Do you need clarification about one of the entry requirements? Are you not sure whether your entry adhered to the rules? Ask here!
Feedback or Ideas. Do you have some ideas you'd like to run by others before settling on one? Do you need help balancing or wording your entry? Do you need help finding art that will fit your card? Or do you just want feedback from the community on your entry? You're in the right place! Remember, although you are allowed to make minor tweaks to your entry after you've submitted it, you're only allowed one submission per week, so make sure that you've settled on your card for sure beforehand.
Discussion! Do you have thoughts on other people's entries? Are there directions you don't like that you're seeing too many people take? Or directions you'd like to see more people take? Would you like to help others and contribute to a greater community understanding of Hearthstone card design and balance? This is where you want to be!
All of that said, please refrain from the following:
Posting TONS of Ideas. Discussion topics become an absolute mess if everybody is posting a dozen different ideas. Please post not more than 3 distinct ideas at a time. Any more than that and we'll have to delete your post.
Advertising Your Entry. Please don't pop in here just to advertise your entry only to never be heard from again. This includes only asking short, generic, or insincere questions like "Thoughts?" or "Do you think this is interesting?". Yes, getting feedback on your entry is one of the purposes of this topic, but we're not just here for other people to help you. We're here for you all to help each other. 12 hours after this competition begins, there should be plenty of other posts here for you to give specific feedback or for you to comment on a trend. If you post your entry for feedback after this time and do not also offer some form of substantial commentary, critique, or praise of others' work, you may find your post deleted.
Plagiarism. Many people post their ideas here before finalizing them in the submission topic. Directly plagiarizing those ideas to post in the submission topic yourself is absolutely not acceptable.
So, without further ado, have fun and get creating!
Such a simple theme I was surprised we hadn't done it already. XD Spell damage really is neglected, and I'm looking forward to seeing what creative stuff y'all can do with it.
The things that instantly came into my head were these:
Shadow Channeler- It's the best deal in stats/spell damage in the game by a mile, but you can only take advantage if he survives to the next turn. Is it OP as a neutral or better served as a class card? If so what class?
Holy Warder- A card that makes enemy spells weaker. Other than Loatheb and a few secrets, that hasn't been done before, but could add an interesting dynamic to the game. Priest feels like the right class because other than board clears, they don't use spell damage much, mitigating the downside.
My first idea is to make the Blood Knight of Spell Damage, but I'm not really sure on the wording/if it's a good idea.
I think the first wording scans better, but also feels very OP since it relies on silence (silence against a small subset, but still). The second wording is closer to Blood Knight and would have fun interactions with something like Dalaran Aspirant, but also doesn't scan well (to me).
This is the idea I have planned to this competition, as a result of my impractifull 2 votes card. And please, I need feedback, at least of balance, because I wanna keep the concept
That is your goto card maker. Find art through a google search or any other method you want, make your card, host it on imgur or a similar hosting site (very important), post it here, and you're good to go.

Thanks, I JUST discovered hearthcards.net so I will make it fancy!

Too bad the contest doesn't allow you to submit more than 1 card per competition. Thinking of the Team Liquid map contests for starcraft 2 for instance which lets you submit up to 3 maps. Would be cool to have a higher limit of cards you could submit for those who have a lot of actually really good ideas. Shame so many have to go to waste.
I've been curious about a card like this for a while. On the one hand, I like the theme of an "anti-magic" warrior who eschews magic to the point where he practically nullifies it. Having this card also blanks Whirlwind and weakens things like Bash, but it interacts more interestingly with cards like Slam or Blood To Ichor.
OTOH, you could always just not run cards like that. Then this could be argued to be OP since it has no functional downside, but can it really be called "no downside" if it locks you out of a subset of cards in your deck?
This was my initial idea, but as always, I'm not sure if it's too boring, if it's balanced and if it's fun/flavorful enough. The idea is obviously, that the Enigmatic Kirin Tor reveals himself as Rhonin - apparently only when he meets "people" with Spell Damage. What an arrogant douche.
Any possible ideas to change or balance it? At the moment it seems balanced enough but maybe it's not. If you don't know Starsurge is a Balance Druid spell that deals arcane damage, then increases the power of your next spell.
This is an idea I've had in my brain for a long time and I finally get to use it in a contest.
Is the wording a bit off? Basically, it gives you Spell Damage +1 for the rest of the game. Think of it as basically The Mistcaller for spells instead of minions. Might be kinda broken.

I would love some feedback on this. The card is definitely meant for fatigue/control match ups. I think it is fairly balanced due to the 10 mana cost, and the RNG involved in the deathrattle. It also requires you to have a board to empower. I will say out of all of the Priest Legendaries this would probably be the best, but I would consider dropping the mana cost down as it seems a bit underpowered.
Holy Warder looks awsome. I had simmilar idea as well, but was thinking -2 is a better option, as this is just a weaker version of 'can't be targeted by spells' because your opponent will instantly kill this minion without using spells. I would also suggest a bigger body, like 4/4 to make it harder to kill. And what is more that could be a Corrupted version of Jungle Moonkin then. Old Gods style.
As I brainstorm a little more, I think I'm going to go in a different direction, but you should run with your spin on the idea if you like it.
Must it interact or could it be something like this? Just an example and very meme of me(if you get it) so don't take it seriously. Just asking.
Would be fun to see Ben defend something like this though.
Ben: "We thought it would make you look at err umm, cards. If you cast it on Auchenai Soulpriest, it'll kill it self with Circle of Healing. There for, hence, ergo, visavi - good card."

It serves Kalecgos from the season 1 card contest as an example?
The joke is you.

The ideas that came to me on top of my head. Please be brutally honest with my cards.

Does it have to be made all fancy with artwork or can I just post stats?
