We've narrowed down ~195 valid submissions to just 20 community favourites. The Challenge was simple; create a card that gave a class that didn't usually have a weapon a weapon. As always, you have as many votes as you like, so vote for any cards that catch your eye.
can you explain how my entry, which had 39 Votes, didn't make it into the finals?
Without being certain, I would presume it's the "page 1"-effect. Usually a lot of votes on page 1, and your submission didn't reach a score that would qualify you to the finals. I'm not saying a mistake couldn't have happened, but the submissions on page 1 usually have A LOT of votes compared to the rest.

EDIT: Thank you for a Final spot :)
It's just confusing because other submissions share the same page and still made it like 'Staff of Purification' and 'Demonic Sister'. There are also submissions, that aren't clever or unique like 'Conjurer of Darkness', who just equips a Mindblast on a stick, but still got into the finals. I don't mean to bash these submissions, but rather clear up how they got into the finals while mine did not.
The way that finalists are determined is detailed in the submission topic:
How do we determine the qualifying finalists? First, we'll pull up-vote data from each submission using the formula detailed below:
(ab) / (c) = x
Where, a = The total number of submissions on the same page as the submission. b = The total number of up-votes that the submission received. c = The total number of up-votes on the same page as the submission. x = The submission's final score.
The formula basically measures which cards stood out the most, with the necessary assumption that each page is about equal in overall submission quality. It will be the entries that receive the highest final scores that move on to the Final Phase.
The bottom line is that, although entries on the earlier pages of the Submission Topic are much more visible and thus receive many more up-votes than entries on later pages, you don't actually have to rush to get your entry in as soon as possible because the up-votes end up being weighted by what page your entry ends up on in order to determine its final score.

There should be a clear set of rules as to how a submission makes it into the finals, like number of votes, what would count as a valid entry based on the competition and whether or not you are allowed to change something afterwards like changing of manacost etc.
No, PRKSlayer was the only one from page 1 making it to the finals, and his submission had more votes than yours. There is a clear set of rules, and if people would just bother to read the submission introduction post, they would see so for themselves :)
so with that rule, if a page has 2 valid submissions and 10 invalid ones, then the 2 valid submissions still have to win against the other invalid submissions to even make it into the finals? and if an invalid submission wins the page, then it makes it into the finals? please clarify.
Invalid submissions can never go through to the finals, nor will they count towards the total number of upvotes on the given page. If there were 10 invalid and 2 valid, the 2 valid would have to reach a certain score (in order to go the finals) which were calculated using the 2 valid submissions and their upvotes as the only factors.
(ab) / (c) = x
Where, a = The total number of submissions on the same page as the submission = 2 b = The total number of up-votes that the submission received = Upvotes from any of the givin 2 valid submissions c = The total number of up-votes on the same page as the submission = Upvotes from the 2 valid submissions x = The submission's final score
The 20 submissions with the highest score goes to the finals.

Being balanced is often enough to push a card into the finals. Not always, obviously, but a simple card is sometimes the best one (this is, I believe, one reason why I won last week...). As for why yours didn't make it? Dunno (I really liked it), but I suspect that it's due to the OPness of the Grimoires- for the Grimoire of Service, summoning 3 Voidwalkers with a delay would be balanced... But a Imp Gang Boss? A Doomguard? 2, even? It just got too big, too quickly. And the Grimoire of Sacrifice could act as an uncounterable Malygos if played right...
That said, I think yours was very cool, and I'm sad to see that it didn't make it. However, it is the community that decides which concepts are good enough, not the mods, nor you or I- acting salty (regardless of if you actually are or not) won't help.
Today in my free brawl pack I got Barongeddon, then I had a cup of fresh green tea. As a result of that, I think Priest is OP because my keyboard is not a mechanical one. I hope Blizzard will address this issue.
Really strong entries this week imo. There are a lot of cards that, if they were real, would be balanced, playable, fun, and flavorful. Good job to all the finalists.
I only got into creating custom cards recently and seeing how much lame garbage gets posted in these combetitions I thought, that I had a good chance at doing well. I also have to learn how these competitions really work since it's one thing to follow the rules, but another to find out when to post, what to post and how much pandering you have to do. I definitely learned never to post on the first page, but rather wait a few days.
It also doesn't help that no examples are given, to determine how 'boring' your entry can be as seen with 'Conjurer of Darkness', which I personally would have disqualified, but thats just my opinion. So no, I'm not salty, but rather suprised as to what made it into the finals and what I can make different next time.
Though I agree "Conjurer of Darkness" isn't the most exciting card, you can't just disqualify it cause it doesn't match your taste. There's not such thing as a TOO boring entry if it fits the rules. Submissions are disqualified if they don't match the restrictions of the weekly competition, or if it's TOO much of a troll card.
I'd say that the reasons page 1 is "tough" is cause a lot of people see that page and that page alone, but mostly because those submissions are rushed. I don't wait to post my submission later on if I feel like I have really good idea. But mostly, I need advice, so I wait patiently for someone to comment my card in the discussion topic. I remember your card being called out as overpowered (correct me if I'm wrong?), and maybe you should've listened. Not pointing any fingers, don't get my wrong, I'm simply stating that listening to what people say in the discussion topic is a great idea.
Your submission was EXTREMELY powerful, and a lot of people liked the idea (hence you got 39 votes), but the people who also seek balance probably didn't vote for your card. I'm not calling myself an angel when it comes to balance either, mine this week is probably just a bit over the top as well, but yours was just too overpowered.

Yeah, last week was only my 8th (I think?) competition here... Most of the people are just submitting things because they've got a really cool idea for a card- balance takes the back seat to flavor and concept. And sometimes, after seeing a page full of OP, over-complicated cards, a simple card can be a breath of fresh air.
As for timing your post, the main thing you need to watch for is don't post on the first page, and try to avoid posting on the last page. I'm sure you could try to put your card amongst a bunch of trashy ones, but I doubt that'd be very effective, or very fair.
On simplicity: take a look at the previous winners (here's Season 3's winners)- the 2 most complicated cards are clearly Murloc Holmes and Watt-son, and The Ancient Prophecy. In the first case, it was required that you have 2 legendaries which refer to each other by name. In the second, the prompt was a legendary spell (or weapon). In both of them, the prompt lent itself to a complex card, and aside from those, the winner tended to be a relatively simple concept. A general rule of thumb is this: make your card as simple as you can, but don't let it be boring.
Aside from that, make sure your card is balanced, and present a reasonably professional card- if it has a typo, or the art is just a screenshot, don't apologize in the description, fix it! Generally, you should base the rarity of your card off of how unique the effect is; cards like Conjurer of Darkness and Shadow Sprite fit very well as commons, but Apostle's Staff, on the other hand, would not. It's good to have a variety of rarities in the final, though commons are often under-represented.
If you're able to, get some feedback in the discussion section- they'll help to point out flaws your card may have, or ways to improve it. In general, the people there are relatively representative of the people who will be submitting cards and voting on cards, so take their advice seriously.
Tl; dr- Make your card simple and balanced, but don't let it be boring. Get feedback, and present it professionally, avoiding the first and last page if you can.
And good luck in future competitions! I suspect I'll be seeing you quite a bit...

"One of the most interesting cards in the new adventure is Medivh. He gives us the game’s first neutral weapon, and that opens up a world of card design possibilities. Think outside the box here- traditional "attack to turn your HP into efficient removal" weapons were restricted to certain classes for a reason, so either think of good nontraditional ways to use the weapon slot for new or underused mechanics (like Medivh, the Guardian), or come up with a clever gameplay justification for a traditional weapon (a good example would be Spirit Claws if Shaman weren't a weapon class already)." - RandomScribbles
This is a direct quote from this weeks competition specific restrictions, which clearly states that weapons like the one you get from 'Conjurer of Darkness' should not count, since they don't follow this restriction and give no reason as to why it can be seen as valid. If we can ignore these restrictions then please let me know.
I don't want 'Conjurer of Darkness' to be disqualified, because he made it into the finals and it would be unfair for the person who submitted it, based on my opinion. I clearly stated it as my opinion and I don't have anything to say what makes it either, so where is the harm in having that opinion?
You are very much entitled to an opinion, I never said otherwise. You wrote, and I quote you: It also doesn't help that no examples are given, to determine how 'boring' your entry can be as seen with 'Conjurer of Darkness', which I personally would have disqualified.
Hence I explained to you why a submission like that isn't going to be disqualified, ever. Also, first you're arguing why it shouldn't be allowed (read: disqualified), and afterwards you state it shouldn't be disqualified.
The rules:
Your card must either be a Weapon or it must equip a weapon.
Your card may not be a class card for a class that already has weapons. In other words, it must be a Druid, Mage, Priest, Warlock, or Neutral card.
The other part in italic is Randomscribbles "idea" and are not this weeks rules to its full extend. Search for the words Must and/or may and stuff like that.
EDIT: I'm not in any trying to be mean or such, I'm simply trying to explain the process and rules to you.

While I tend to agree that the card isn't the most inventive thing, that's also a subjective metric to judge a card by. And subjective metrics (as opposed to objective ones like "make a weapon") should be decided by the voting community not by me, the competition creator or a mod. When I wrote that paragraph you quoted, it was as much guidance to voters to choose the inventive cards as it was guidance for the designers. And the voters chose 'Conjurer of Darkness' to be a finalist card for a reason. I'm honestly really impressed that it uses custom made artwork and not the product of a search (mentioned in the discussion topic). I didn't vote for it in the regular competition for the same reasons as you, and am not voting for it here, but it's a balanced card, has that art, and if it won, it would deserve it because it's what the community chose in this community competition.

If I could give any advice to Boethion it would be to make sure your cards are simple (like you said). Even if your submission is the coolest Hearthstone card ever created, it may not make it to the finals because it is too cluttered in both the amount of text and the amount of tokens. Some people will only consider voting for cards if they consist of a couple lines of text and look aesthetically appealing.
Whew, I made it. That's a happy surprise. I didn't think my card was anything too special.
And on topic of "How to succeed at this competition" Keeping card text (generally 4 lines max) and the number of tokes (1-2 max) to a minimum is certainly important. It's a question of attention span, and besides, Hearthstone isn't supposted to be Yugioh.
One piece of additional advice I can give is to make your card thematically strong and coherent. Hippogryph Rider from season 3 week 19 is a prime example of this because it tells a little story. The card comes down and the rider shoots an arrow. When the hippogryph dies, the archer on the back is still alive and jumps back into your hand. Then the archer is played and shoots another arrow. The card is also a refrence to a Warcraft 3 unit. Name, art and effect all come together in this card.
I've done something similar this week with my card. Abominations in wow are generally wild, uncontrollable creatures with wide swings. So, I gave it the "Cleave" ability. When it dies, it drops its cleaver and you pick it up instead. You can then swing just like the abomination did (Notice how the cleaver and the abomination have the same amount of attack).
Exactly. While you want a simple card, you also want one that thematically tells a story in as little lines as possible. The cards below are examples of winning cards from this and the last season that really display this:
Huh, and I thought it was a good move to have my card and its tokens on the one picture.
Granted, I never thought i'd get through to the finals (seriously how did that happen?) but looking at it here, you can't even read the text on the cards!

I think it was a good move, it brings more attention to your photo, and people with pcs can just open up in a new tab.
Shadow Sprite and Lord Victor Nefarius got my vote, they are VERY interesting cards, If I had to vote just 1, it would be hard, but I would choose Nefarius

You don't HAVE to vote one, you know. The system allows you to cast as many vote as you like.
And thank you for your response to my card.
This is just my second weeks of joining the competition and I already have one on the final poll. I feel so honor.
You got the name of my card wrong, in a more...meme way. I am having mixed feeling...
Anyway, thanks for all who voted for my card. I wanted to design a self-silence effect that actually works and promote a new deck type, tying it to a weapon that also help ping minions is a little bonus.
Wailing Soul Druid was once a thing, so self-silence obviously can work, it just need the right card for it.
