Hello, folks! As we stated in the Discussion Topic for last week's competition, we're currently experiencing some technical difficulties on our end that are preventing us from moving forward with last week's poll. We have decided not to delay this week's competition, however. When we get the problem sorted out, we will begin the poll, even if it has to run alongside this new competition's submission process. We apologize to everybody for the delay. >_< If it makes up for it at all, though, you can look forward to our first ever Adventure Design Competition's Discussion Topic going up by between 2300 and 300 UTC (that's between 7 and 11 PM today here for me in the Eastern US).
This is the Discussion Topic. The Submission Topic will go up Thursday at 19:00 UTC.
Competition Theme: RECENT EVENTS
This week's Card Design Competition Theme comes from SWGolgoth, whose Observatory Tower was the winner of our "Building Bases" competition.
Competition-Specific Restrictions:
Your card must interact with the most recent instance of any game element or mechanic, for example the most recent spell you played, the most recent card you drew, or the minion that attacked most recently. Think of it as the reverse of mechanics like Cho'gall, Loatheb, or Fencing Coach; rather than, like these cards, comboing with or affecting the next instance of some event, your card should combo with or have an effect based on the last instance.
Remember to review the General Competition Rules when the Submission Topic goes up! There have been no major changes since last season, but it never hurts to double-check if you haven't read them in a while.
Competition Process
Preview Phase (Starts Now! Ends 19:00 UTC 28/July/2016) During this Phase, the Discussion Topic is made available, previewing this week's competition theme. Entry and Early Voting Phase (Starts 19:00 UTC 28/July/2016, Ends 17:00 UTC 1/August/2016) During this Phase, the Submission Topic is made available for your submissions. You may also, of course, feel free to give early up-votes to any submissions that you like! Voting Phase (Starts 17:00 UTC 1/August/2016, Ends 17:00 UTC 2/August/2016) During this Phase, the Submission Topic will be locked, so no more entries may be submitted. Instead, use this time to browse the submissions and up-vote your favorites! Final Phase (Starts 18:00 UTC 2/August/2016, Ends 18:00 UTC 3/August/2016) During this Phase, the Discussion Topic will also be locked, and a new Poll Topic will go up. Discussion will be allowed to continue in the Poll Topic, and it will also include all the qualifying finalists and poll to decide the winner of the competition!
Discussion Topic Rules
To make sure that everything runs smoothly, we need to reserve the Submission Topic for submissions only. Everything else goes here. What is everything else, you might ask?
Rules or Process. Do you have a question about the competition's process? Do you need clarification about one of the entry requirements? Are you not sure whether your entry adhered to the rules? Ask here!
Feedback or Ideas. Do you have some ideas you'd like to run by others before settling on one? Do you need help balancing or wording your entry? Do you need help finding art that will fit your card? Or do you just want feedback from the community on your entry? You're in the right place! Remember, although you are allowed to make minor tweaks to your entry after you've submitted it, you're only allowed one submission per week, so make sure that you've settled on your card for sure beforehand.
Discussion! Do you have thoughts on other people's entries? Are there directions you don't like that you're seeing too many people take? Or directions you'd like to see more people take? Would you like to help others and contribute to a greater community understanding of Hearthstone card design and balance? This is where you want to be!
All of that said, please refrain from the following:
Posting TONS of Ideas. Discussion topics become an absolute mess if everybody is posting a dozen different ideas. Please post not more than 3 distinct ideas at a time. Any more than that and we'll have to delete your post.
Advertising Your Entry. Please don't pop in here just to advertise your entry only to never be heard from again. This includes only asking short, generic, or insincere questions like "Thoughts?" or "Do you think this is interesting?". Yes, getting feedback on your entry is one of the purposes of this topic, but we're not just here for other people to help you. We're here for you all to help each other. 12 hours after this competition begins, there should be plenty of other posts here for you to give specific feedback or for you to comment on a trend. If you post your entry for feedback after this time and do not also offer some form of substantial commentary, critique, or praise of others' work, you may find your post deleted.
Plagiarism. Many people post their ideas here before finalizing them in the submission topic. Directly plagiarizing those ideas to post in the submission topic yourself is absolutely not acceptable.
So, without further ado, have fun and get creating!
Great theme! First thing that came to mind was this:
The idea is that this reverses any damage done/cards drawn/Buffs given, but it will not reverse any additional effects (Such as Flamewaker). The main strength is undoing aoes. This might have too many complex interactions though.
I'd be careful with using Chromie since so many people used her in last weeks competition.
Really interesting, first thing that comes to mind is this card from the WoG compeition by Petlas:
Obviously this card is op, but this may inspire some designs for anyone who is looking to make a card with a cool effect.
I dont think this would do anything other than change the history tab. Shouldnt it read something like "Battlecry: Replay all events in the history tab in a reverted order." That being said, i dont rly like including the history tab into this in a first place, it feels VERY messy :P Who is to say how long would the history tab go? Only what u can see? And dont u see less of it on phone than on PC? etc :P

Yeah, this card got a lot of hate when it made it to the final poll, not only cause it was op but because it was confusing and messy. I think the history tab could still be a viable mechanic in this competition though, possibly something like you said, but less powerful: 'Replay the last event in the history tab'. But there would need to be rules, what if the last event was a minion being killed by Living Roots, would nothing happen or would the Living Roots hit something else. I would like to see history tab cards in this competition, and getting a few rules and mechanics down would help make these cards more understandable (and hopefully people wouldn't make them op like the card I showed as an example).
I agree that reverting history does not make much sense mechanically, or as an interesting game mechanic (and is anti fun), but replaying events seems to a viable option and mechanically works out.

There has been a numerous submissions with "Cast the last spell that was played" or "Summon last played minion" etc., but those were kinda unique on their own, since they were mostly implemented on cards with a differently aimed rule set, im pretty sure we will see tons of them this week again, but im kinda interested to see what can ppl come up with that will set them apart from others :) Definitely an interesting theme this week, i think i will (after a long time) try and think of something myself :)

Agreed, last week was my favourite week so far since the rules were open to interpretation, so I am pretty excited since this week seems the same. I'm going to try and think of something unique.I think I'll try to implement the 'At the start of the game' effect in my card this week since it opens up so many new card designs.

I think thats a little bit of a strech on the "most recent" part isnt it ?:D
What you think about this card? Combo with Divine Favor, Solemn Vigil, and it triggers from mandatory card draw too, so it's at least a bit worse Razorfen Hunter

Well it could implement an aura effect for the rest of the game, but I guess that was a big strech. :p
This is my idea for this week. Pretty nifty in my opinion, though I think it could be worded better. What are your opinions?
The idea here is instead of casting the last spell you played and having it's targets chosen randomly is that it allows you to target the spell. I may change it up but this is what I have for know.
As for the other card, I'm not sure if it works for this week but I think it has more flavor overall.
I worry that the wording would be a little confusing, so I'll explain. By undo and reverse I mean that not only does it erase what happened when the card was played, but if possible it will also do the opposite. For example, if the last card played was Fireball then you would undo the 6 damage done, but also heal the target for 6 damage. If the card was a buff, something like Mark of Y'Shaarj then it would undo the buff, but then also buff (un-buff? nerf?) the target for -2/-2.
Does that make sense?
I also worry that it might be OP, which is why I reduced the stats, but let me know what you think!
What you think about this card? Combo with Divine Favor, Solemn Vigil, and it triggers from mandatory card draw too, so it's at least a bit worse Razorfen Hunter
PS: and what about wording?
Regarding the wording, i would remove the "you have". Of course that would then also include cards your enemy draws, but you could turn a coldlight oracle drawing 4 cards into 4 recruits. Could add more strategy to it as well with deathrattle minions like Loot Hoarder and Bloodmage Thalnos on the opponent's side. Interesting concept though.

Oh, this is cool. I got a pretty sweet idea, can't wait to find art to go with it.

Well this was my first idea...
Edit: Fixed errors, typo, card type.
I really like my idea for this week, and i may just stick with this for my submission

This actually reminds me of a card I submitted for another competition a lot time ago.
Very overpowered, but I like the idea... Hmm...

The Nexus comes to the Inn with my set of Heroes of the Storm Legendaries!
How about something like this?

Of note, you can also use most recent instances as conditions. For example:
