Hello everybody! This topic is for discussion of our "Standardized Parts" competition. To make sure that everything runs smoothly, we need to reserve the Submission Topic for submissions only. Everything else goes here. What is everything else, you might ask?
Rules or Process. Do you have a question about the competition's process? Do you need clarification about one of the entry requirements? Are you not sure whether your entry adhered to the rules? Ask here!
Feedback or Ideas. Do you have some ideas you'd like to run by others before settling on one? Do you need help balancing or wording your entry? Do you need help finding art that will fit your card? Or do you just want feedback from the community on your entry? You're in the right place! Remember, although you are allowed to make minor tweaks to your entry after you've submitted it, you're only allowed one submission per week, so make sure that you've settled on your card for sure beforehand.
Discussion! Do you have thoughts on other people's entries? Are there directions you don't like that you're seeing too many people take? Or directions you'd like to see more people take? Would you like to help others and contribute to a greater community understanding of Hearthstone card design and balance? This is where you want to be!
All of that said, please refrain from the following:
Posting TONS of Ideas. Discussion topics become an absolute mess if everybody is posting a dozen different ideas. Please post not more than 3 distinct ideas at a time. Any more than that and we'll have to delete your post.
Advertising Your Entry. Please don't pop in here just to advertise your entry only to never be heard from again. This includes only asking short, generic, or insincere questions like "Thoughts?" or "Do you think this is interesting?". Yes, getting feedback on your entry is one of the purposes of this topic, but we're not just here for other people to help you. We're here for you all to help each other. 12 hours after this competition begins, there should be plenty of other posts here for you to give specific feedback or for you to comment on a trend. If you post your entry for feedback after this time and do not also offer some form of substantial commentary, critique, or praise of others' work, you may find your post deleted.
Plagiarism. Many people post their ideas here before finalizing them in the submission topic. Directly plagiarizing those ideas to post in the submission topic yourself is absolutely not acceptable.
So, without further ado, have fun and get creating!
Question: does this card qualify? It doesn't directly create spare parts, but rather indirectly causes spare parts to be created.
I like that but my only worry is it permanently meddles with your opponent too much which Blizz isn't a fan of. Could be too strong in Mage/Rogue as a neutral too right?
Anyone my real submission is:
Dr. Bloom detected. 1st place incoming, I'm calling it.
BTW, if I understood the rules correctly, the idea of this week's theme is to create a card that makes Spare Parts part of Standard, right? So, technically, a card that DOESN'T generate Spare Parts on its own would never work in Standard, because you can't get them other than with GvG cards. If that's the case, it's REALLY restrictive this week's theme. We're gonna see a lot of duplicates.

And just as bad and uninspired. :X If that makes it to the finals and wins I think I won't bother competing in the future. Parody cards are getting out of hand again and again and again.

Ha, a long way to go with a lot of good ideas on the way so who knows.
That is a good point. My first idea was something similar to the holding a Dragon mechanic but with Spare Parts. Something like, "Battlecry: If you're holding a Spare Part,..." but none will be readily available in standard unless we assume there will be other Spare Part producing cards.

I was wondering how quickly Zukuu would come in here to say this, he did not disappoint :)
Do we really get that many parody cards especially in the finals though? I think its pretty hard to come up with a "parody" as you call it that doesn't fall flat with the community and is still functional.
This week's theme feels a lot less restrictive than mage beasts, though. At least for me. I'm going to make the assuption that we're making the assumption that Blizzard releases more mechs and more opportunities to gain Spare Parts, though, since Spare Part interaction is an allowed theme, and that pretty much requires Spare Parts.

Not necessarily. The idea isn't necessarily like your card is going to be the one and only new card to utilize Spare Parts in the new standard. If your card merely interacts with spare parts rather then producing them or causing them to be produced, I think it's fair enough for your card to be granted the assumption that other additional Spare Parts producing cards will be added to standard.
Discovering a Spare Part isn't really all that useful or cost intensive, plus it's "combo" meaning it should have pretty good stats for its effect. I would rather aim for something of a 1, 2 or 3 drop. Anything else will probably be too weak with combo attached to it. 3 mana has Unearthed Raptor, meaning a 2/3 for 2 could work, but even that would be probably too weak without it being a battlecry. (it's arguable weaker than Dark Peddler), so maybe a 1 mana 1/3 or so could work.
@MattTh0m: on 1st page there is already a discover spare part mechanic, on battlecry but its basically the same.
@TheDuck: seems ok ;-)
@RandomScribbls: no way man ... altering hero power of your opponent thats pretty huge alteration of a decks playstyle. Lower the cost and alter only the casters hero power.
OK how about this? i found these cuties and i couldnt resist :D
It can still be a 2/3 without being too strong. Battlecry: Gain a Spare Part isn't that strong to warrant any stat reduction, in particular as a class card.
I'm kind of surprised there's only one entry so far that calls out a specific spare part. I thought for sure that'd be a popular choice, as it vastly increases the range of what you can do thematically.
just a rule clarification, can we make a minion that gives a hero power for this week? i'm not sure if gaining a hero power count's as an addition card or as a token. never really thought about it before and i dont want to break the 1 card/1 submission rule if we have that for this week.
EDIT:
this is the card for this week. like i said, im not sure if giving a hero power is against the rules.
really wanted to give lock and load and spell control hunter some interesting tech stuff.
A buffed up Gnomeregan Infantry that can also be a 5 mana neutral fireball. Shoud he have 1 attack or 2 though? It seems like one of those cases where 1 attack is way too weak, but 2 is way too powerful- it would be a complete power creep over Stormwind Knight. But 1 attack for a 4 drop makes it useless as a defender, killing the versatility that is supposed to be the whole point.
I could make the battlecry give you a whirling blades part as well, but at what point does the card become too clunky?

You can find me here! Good luck everyone!
You're right this weeks theme feels quite restrictive but I'm sure people will come up with some weird and wonderful ideas

Siras Terra, the Geomancer

Hoping this theme is better recieved than the last theme I came up with. XP

If anyone wants a great (fun!) idea, please send me a PM to see if you're interested. I don't want to post it here just yet in case it gets used.
I actually think its better than my King Mechla.
OK; settled on what I think is my final idea
