Hello everybody! This topic is for discussion of our "Familiar Faces" competition. To make sure that everything runs smoothly, we need to reserve the Submission Topic for submissions only. Everything else goes here. What is everything else, you might ask?
Rules or Process. Do you have a question about the competition's process? Do you need clarification about one of the entry requirements? Are you not sure whether your entry adhered to the rules? Ask here!
Feedback or Ideas. Do you have some ideas you'd like to run by others before settling on one? Do you need help balancing or wording your entry? Do you need help finding art that will fit your card? Or do you just want feedback from the community on your entry? You're in the right place! Remember, although you are allowed to make minor tweaks to your entry after you've submitted it, you're only allowed one submission per week, so make sure that you've settled on your card for sure beforehand.
Discussion! Do you have thoughts on other people's entries? Are there directions you don't like that you're seeing too many people take? Or directions you'd like to see more people take? Would you like to help others and contribute to a greater community understanding of Hearthstone card design and balance? This is where you want to be!
All of that said, please refrain from the following:
Posting TONS of Ideas. Discussion topics become an absolute mess if everybody is posting a dozen different ideas. Please post not more than 3 distinct ideas at a time. Any more than that and we'll have to delete your post.
Advertising Your Entry. Please don't pop in here just to advertise your entry only to never be heard from again. This includes only asking short, generic, or insincere questions like "Thoughts?" or "Do you think this is interesting?". Yes, getting feedback on your entry is one of the purposes of this topic, but we're not just here for other people to help you. We're here for you all to help each other. 12 hours after this competition begins, there should be plenty of other posts here for you to give specific feedback or for you to comment on a trend. If you post your entry for feedback after this time and do not also offer some form of substantial commentary, critique, or praise of others' work, you may find your post deleted.
Plagiarism. Many people post their ideas here before finalizing them in the submission topic. Directly plagiarizing those ideas to post in the submission topic yourself is absolutely not acceptable.
So, without further ado, have fun and get creating!
This is our first ever card design competition only open to a single class, so I'm curious how it will be received. On the bright side, the mechanical restrictions other than that, while definite, are very broad and open to tons of different possible approaches.
One thing I don't want to see, though, is people trying to turn things into Beasts that are not Beasts. Beasts have a very particular definition in the Warcraft universe. Al'ar, for example, is not a Beast. Super please don't enter Al'ar.

You should put that into rules of the submissions post. People are definitely going to try to make Alar.
It's super RNG, and could be used both as control and to buff a friendly minion. On a small, friendly minion, it will probably make it into a better minion, with a chance of giving you something awesome like King Krush. It's pretty risky using it as control, though, because there are powerful beasts. Maybe I could make it cost 3?

I like it. I think I recall a Ram Wrangler calculation that the average beast was a 3/4 but with the offensive/defensive option aspect of your card, 4 mana be about right.
You forgot the beast tag. A bit too powerful imo, most spells are good whereas beasts are not always good. I thought about limiting the mana cost of spells you could get but even then, for example if you limit at 3 mana, it's basically a free secret or freezebolt. Maybe making it more expensive with bad stats?
Here's my ideas for submission
The White Fox seems a bit unbalanced, maybe he should be 2/3 or 1/4? Medivh's Crow is purely a tech card, versus control it can give you that little push to win.
Needs the Beast tag to qualify. So, this can add any card from any class right?
Very much like webspinner, but I'd venture that you have a much higher chance of getting something useless. Even angry chicken is better than totemic might. Then again, with flame waker, any spell could be good I guess.

Yeah in flamewaker deck this card would be so sick. And more times then not, this would be spell-unstable portal, that would give u some crazy s**t to play when your opponent doesnt expect it :) I kinda like it :) And cause its on so low mana cost card, so what if u get crap from time to time, the card value can only go up :)
PS: it does need to be fixed with the beast tag tho, like said before ;-) and probably just say "random spell" > Spellslinger
@Nihls White Fox is by far my favourite. Really, I think it might be balanced, solely because it draws at the start of your turn. 9 times out of 10, you won't be able to just drop that turn 3 and expect your card, as your opponent will definitely prioritize it. However, if you feel it needs to be nerfed, a 1/4 would be better.
1) You don't have the beast tag. Don't get disqualified for nothing.
2) You miss a point at the end of your card text. Looks a bit sloppy.
3) Instead of "Spell card" just write "spell", no uppercase, shorter and more in line with Hearthstone semantic (the term "Spell card" would be used in Yu-Gi-Oh). For reference look at Spellslinger, Raven Idol, Counterspell...
okay so here's my thought this week. Any advice or changes are welcome
Looks balanced, even tho i dont know where would i play it and why. Its super slow :F Art is cool, but mby center the lion a bit? It looks to be too much to the left side.
Sooo I probably shouldv'e checked in first here, but its too late now. Oops.
So this card helps make Mage more sticky (because thats practically all they do, control and stuff), and I didn't want to use Pit Snake because that's a Rogue card and I didn't feel like this should be stealing that. I would've also liked to maybe raise it to 4 mana because that seems fair, but all Mage secrets are 3 so that couldn't change either. Overall its a very powerful secret if dropped early, but at the same time only works when your minion dies so hopefully its not too OP.
This is really strong in arena, though. 4 mana 2/6 with an upside is quite okay just because it's likely to stick at turn 4, 6 mana 4/6 BC: deal 1 damage is strong, and this card has the option to be both. Make it a rare and you'll see this in arena quite a lot.
Heh so far iv got several ideas for some other card designes, but not yet for the one i need :D One thing is quite interesting tho, iv found Mana Wyrm to be included in a list of WOW beasts :O Interesting.

Anyone else getting this while trying to open the submission topic?:
I tried every possible link I could think of.
yes, I can't enter the submission topic either.
