Collecting all of the cards is a goal for most card game collectomanias. Although Link Removed: http://2p.com/game/U00515/Hearthstone-Heroes-of-Warcraft.htm is still in closed beta, some guys have played a scenario and figured out the answer.
How may cards exist in the game?
There are 5 types of rarity. Free, Common, Rare, Epic and Legendary. All the free cards are ignored since players could collect them by playing the game normally. So the statistics are below:
Common: 226
Rare: 84
Epic: 43
Legendary: 40
How much Arena dust could I get roughly in each pack?
An obsessed user named Nepownage had made an experiment by putting statistics down from opening 334 packs (in this calculation golden cards are ignored). Out of those 334 packs he got:
Therefore, 1 pack is equal to 87.5 Arcane dust. 29210/334=87.5
How many packs do I need?
In each pack players could get at least 1 rare card. What’s more we always get reduplicative cards in our packs; therefore we should disenchant the reduplicative ones and craft new ones. Ok let’s skip both complicated cases and long explanations heading to the answer directly – 510 packs (golden cards are ignored)! 510 packs you need!
Skipping the interesting part (the complicated) destroys the answer. You don't need to buy 510 Packs, just to completely disenchant them, and then craft a full collection afterwards. If you see the sample size, a sample of 334 packs, you can assume:
To get a full common and rare collection out of 334 packs plus tons of duplicates of those around 75% of a full epic collection (keeping a bit lower for duplicates) plus a lot of legendaries If we assume this, you get lots of dust for crafting: (1191-226*2)*5 = 3695 (383-84*2)*20 = 4300
That's nearly 8K dust. Enough to round out your epic collection and start to hunt the last missing legendaries
This still doesn't include free gold (and dust from arena), your free packs for starting to play, and any golden cards.
Still incomplete math on my side, though.

383 rare cards
76 epic cards
20 legendary cards
5 * 1191 + 20 * 383 + 76 * 100 + 20 * 400= 5950 + 7660 + 7600 + 8000 = 29210 (Arcane dust)
Therefore, 1 pack is equal to 87.5 Arcane dust. 29210/334=87.5

Or just spam arena and you have access, randomly, to all cards.Play arena and get at least 7 wins and you get a guaranteed pack+gold for next entry.
We don't need no stinkin math!
But how many packs are required to get every card twice, every legendary AND every golden card twice, and every golden legendary?
510 packs seems to only gets you 25% of the way.

this actually seems pretty close, I opened up like 350 or so and have every card twice, and about 40 golden cards minus like twenty legendaries.
