I would consider both of those cards to be rather bad and certainly not worth crafting.
The one thing they have in common is that they see absolutely no play in "regular" decks and are kinda doomed to remain in gimmick OTK decks since there is just no place for them on ladder mainly due to them being too slow or just not all that useful in decks that aren't dedicated to running them.
So if you still want to craft one of those you've got to be aware that it's purely for the fun of playing them rather than getting to use them in actually efficient decks.
And since that is the case my vote clearly goes to Malygos since Ancestor's Call spelldamage OTK shaman always offers you a good time in casual mode.
You can't imagine future cards or a future meta that will make either usefull?
Well, Malygos is neutral and Dragon so if you're interested in Dragon decks the choice is quite easy, at least it would be for me. Velen though is slightly faster and interacts with priest's healing. I have both and I prefer Velen in priest but I actually run both in my Big Guys deck. If you get both on the board your damaging spells will WRECK
if you want to craft any of these go for malygos.. he is dragon, his stats are better + his effect is pretty much the same.. also you can use him in any class. Malygos with stuff like thaurissan and dragon consort can actually be pretty good.. i see more bright future for him rather than velen..

Malygos in Paladin would be cool because of dragon consort. Do you think there are enough usefull face spells in Paladin?

The main problem of both of those cards is the fact they are simply too slow be played. In order to change that the meta would either have to change completely and shift to a much more control heavy enviroment or there would be a need to introduce cards that help to offset this main problem.
Thats why Malygos is somewhat popular in a deck with Ancestor's Call, you can avoid it's major flaw and make good use of it's powerful ability without having to worry about the drawback but i don't really see this kind of cards introduced to an extent that would make those cards really viable.
In terms of synergy and card interactions both are actually decent and already "good" if you manage to keep either one on the board for one or even multiple turns you will most likely win the game just because of that fact but again the cards are too slow to be actually played in a "competitive" deck and if you try to play them without the above mentioned ramp effects they will barely provide any value.
Well, the Emperor can make them faster fortunately! But without the Emperor I don't think I would play either one except in maybe Shaman if I'd have Ancestor's Call.
I've always wanted Malygos to sort of finish up my collection, and Mister_Smith has pretty much summed up my experience with Malygos this last week after crafting it. I mean, it is fun as hell but it doesn't really work. My best success with it was in an ancestors call deck I made up, but I've had the most fun experimenting with a Malygos Warlock deck. In a Warlock game where I have set up a situation where I can win with Malygos/spells thanks to Emperor, I would've won anyway. In even or behind games he immediately gets killed/silenced/whatever.
I've opened both of these in packs, I've only put Velen on the board once. Malygos I played with a bit in the Malygos Miracle days - which was actually really fun when I pulled it off. There's probably a viable dragon-rogue deck out there with Malygos.
Interestingly I actually got a Velen as my first golden legend, and dusted him for Pagle, then Leeroy after the nerf, then Malygos after that got nerfed.
and at least between rank 15 and 10, it worked like a charm. So surprising that a dekc this fun can be quite consistent. I don't think this would have been possible with Malygos.
Malygos, because he is neutral. I have Velen, it is a fun card and I love the animation, but surely nothing for a deck to climb the ladder. But if you manage to pull him off ...
I think Malygos can be really fun for priest - this is what I'm laddering with for June 2015 and I've bean steadily climbing all month...never going to get to legend with it, but it's fun and should get to rank 5 by the end of the month with casual play...
I've had "Rank #1 Legend" net decks that I couldn't take that far, so who knows? Maybe this is a competitively viable deck, but I don't think so.
I strongly disagree with most of the comments in this thread. Malylock is one of the strongest decks there is right now, two top teams have it as a tier 1 deck this week and personally I've felt it was tier 1 since its inception. With the Emperor being introduced, Malygos is much easier to use now and he isn't a gimmick, he is a win condition. They don't call him Malygod for nothing.

Getting my next 1600 Dust together and not sure if I should craft Prophet Velen or Malygos.
Which one do you guys think enables a better deck right now?
Which one do you think has a higher potential to get a strong deck built around in the future?
Malygos
Honestly, neither. I haven't used malygos in probably 5 months and i've never used velen in a single competitive deck.
Well, I'm in the nice position of having all the important and strong cards. So I'm just looking to compare their relative strenght.

Time is money, friend.

Eye for an eye viable ? lol

Seriously, Malygos or Velen? That's your dilemna?

Malygos because he's neutral.

They both suck.
Even if Dragons do beocome a thing, the dragon of choice will most likely be Alexstrasza, Ysera, etc.
Malygos will be tested in gimmicky Freeze Mage decks and Shaman OTK decks just because Shamans are bored to death.
Just a little addendum.
In the end i went with Prophet Velen, using this deck:

and at least between rank 15 and 10, it worked like a charm. So surprising that a dekc this fun can be quite consistent. I don't think this would have been possible with Malygos.
but isn't Malygos Warlock a thing now?
"Your soul shall be mine!" -- "You asked for it!"
Worst. Foreplay. Ever.
Malygos, no question.
