I really don't see why I would play this over Zombie Chow. Priest is the class that cares the least if he heals the opponent for five (and it also got synergy with Auchenai Soulpriest) and will therefore take a guaranteed 2/3 over a potential 2/3. If this sees play in Priest, it will be with Zombie Chow. At least the card is cute.
This card maybe the most useless card ever printed,... You give Priest - which is basically only able to run control-ish Decks - a situationalZombie Chow-replacement, while the 5 health on the enemy hero not only don't matter at all, given how slow the Decks are, but it's also the ONLY class which can potentially combo Chow into 5 facedamage with Auchenai Soulpriest to gain additional value and sometimes even lethal.
WHY ON EARTH DOES THIS CARD EXIST AS A PRIEST-CLASS-CARD!?
Are people too dense to realise it's the only 1 mana dragon in the game and it's A DRAGON not a zombie chow?
Here's what I think. I don't think this Whelp was intended to bridge Priest into the late game while surviving aggro rushes and that's where the confusion in this thread is. Comparing Whelp to Zombie Chow is incorrect, because Chow is simply better at playing said role and thus Whelp is not needed, at all. If we are talking about an aggro stopping bridge minion, Chow is "the nuts" without question. I think what we are seeing here, is a card that will encourage mid-range / early game aggressiveness. The words Aggressive and Priest have not really gone together (almost ever). What has really been the main complaint about Priest? People usually say, the class is too re-active and can't ever be pro-active. I think Whelp was to assist in making Priest proactive. Because if you'r using a lot of these BRM cards, you will be pro-active, for the most part these are not re-active cards.
Now if we are thinking in terms of trying to beat someone up and kill them quickly with Priest, Zombie Chow is not really that viable of an option (unless you're specifically saving it for Auchenai, which is pretty far fetched). Or rather, Whelp has a strong role that is not undermined by the existence of Zombie Chow. If you're playing whelps early, then it's safe to say you running a minion heavy deck (because you'd have to be to consistently proc that battlecry). If you're running a minion heavy deck, you are going to be applying quite some pressure, because minion heavy decks aren't control'y nor reactive. So this Whelp is not a control card and control is basically the ONLY viable archetype Priest has had in recent times. The proper card to compare Whelp to is not Zombie Chow, it's Cogmaster.
Now think of the type of deck Cogmaster is run in, now you understand what's going on here with Whelp.
One of the potential problems of the Dragon synergy deck is that you might be stuck holding onto a late game card if you want to guarantee that your Blackwing Technician or Blackwing Corruptor can be played with synergy.
This is not the case for Priest. They can use the Twilight Whelp. It is cheap, it is a dragon, and best of all - if you do get another bigger dragon to serve as the trigger for the other synergy cards, you can also use it as the trigger for the whelp, letting you bring in a River Crocolisk for just 1 mana.
This is a great card, it looks pretty underwhelming, but if you have many dragons in your deck chances are you're going to be able to activate the battlecry nearly 100% of the time.
So you've got a 2/3 for 1 mana, it trades into 3/2s or you can Power Word: Shield to kill a 3/2 and still have a 2/2 on the board with no hand decrease....and when it is killed it's not healing your opponent.

Omg, someone with working brain here? Yes, this card is garbage. Priest mechs are much stronger than priest dragons, and you still cannot run mech-priest because how many spells/combos priest needs. There will be no dragon-priest. Ever.
Sorry to trash the party, but you guys ain't seen no real cute stuff yet.
This one can replace Zombie Chow IF you don't run Auchenai Soulpriest (which also open up Circle of Healing and Light of the Naaru slots.) The 4-drop can be replaced with Dragonkin Sorcerer or Hungry Dragon for a semi-dragon midrange/control deck, and they aren't bad cards to hold in your opening hand. You can even play Blackwing Technician instead of Dark Cultist. It's a matter of choice, so I think this card isn't garbage or anything.
Oww yeah. this is what i was hoping for. A new weenie mob that is fun and cute. Was sad when they nerfed poor buzzard and made it into a fattie.
But small weenies ftw!
Well, this practically guarantees that priest will be trying out the dragon deck. Whether or not the stick with it is another question.
A conditional Zombie Chow without the drawback... Priests aren't starved for early game right now, even then Zombie Chow does the job just fine.
Dragon-Priest deck might have some synergy with Dragonkin Sorcerer... but I'm a bit skeptical so far.
Dont forget priest have alot of spells that can give tempo. Like using shadow madness as double removal turn 4 etc.
Priest just never had many good weenie mobs and was forced to rely on chows that usually do less dmg than they give as life.
But now we have LE WHELP soon to be chosen by velen and wreck up that enemy. gogo Twillight whelp, go indeed!
Because it's a Dragon and not a Zombie Chow.
imo it shouldv been a 2-2, +0/1 if condition is met..

How about we name the Twilight Whelp Edward?

I'm going to second MarineKingHS here.

Wait... Charmander is evolving!

I think something went wrong, it looks pale...

This is like giving Paladin another 4 mana 4/2 weapon....why?
I mean, I suppose you could play this in addition to Zombie Chow and go really anti-aggro build. That actually might be really strong, we'll see.
Hell yeah. Chow and Edward gonna be best buddies. With twillight drakes in too it will be like a big family :3
I´d prefer that over Chow 7 days a week and twice on Sundays. If I played Priest, that is...which I don´t.
But why not both...?
