I don't think lumberer is a bad card, he is definitely there to support mill druid. For 10 mana you can play Poison SeedsStarfall to 4 minions and it would cost 1 mana because the minions die twice, not to mention any deathrattles that may spawn in the process. Adding threats to that deck is what the deck needed. I personally run mountain and clockwork giants just so coldlight is not my only win condition.
People need to remember that all cards are not going to be for ramp or token or combo Druid. There is no need to add class cards to strengthen already strong archetypes when they have much weaker ones that they can try and make viable
You need bad cards. If you had no bad cards, you would have no good cards. You need context in order to determine how useful a card is. Why is Magmar Rager bad in comparison spider tank? If you only print good cards, what's the point? That's total power creep. And as a mostly f2p player, I would totally be against it. Then suddenly, you won't even to be able to grind for what you want, but have to pay 120$ every expansion to stay even semi competitive.
Well then think about it like this, any great late game legendary fits very well into Ramp Druid. You have Rag, Slyv, Ysera, Dr. Boom, Malorne, Kel Thuzzard (?), all of these cards fit well into the whole idea of Ramp Druid. This will be the case with every new expansion too. You don't need class specific cards to be uber dumber strong. Druids already have a fantastic arsenal of minions, which could be argued, are the most versatile set of cards in the whole game. Need card draw? AoL. Need Heal? AoL. Need burst? Savage Roar+FoN. Need a Taunt? DoTC. Need... Well, I think you get it.
Not only are able Druids to utilize the majority of good legendaries, their (base set) minions also generally outclass other classes minions. Druids have consistently throughout Tournaments, and ranked, been amongst the top 4 classes since hearthstones release, for a reason. Ramp Druid will always be a powerful deck, and doesn't need any major push with this card, or their 2/5 card.
But anyways, Volcanic Lumberer doesn't need to be crammed into ramp Druid. I think it will find it's place in a token/deathrsattle Druid. You will almost always have 2 or 3 minions on the field(plus their minions), which if you drop a savage roar, can remove anywhere from 3-6 minions. Imagine, being able to drop this turn 5. Or Turn 3, even? Although, in token Druid, having this get bgh'd would be fairly devastating, because they don't run a whole lot 7+ attack minions. This getting popped in a ramp Druid deck would be great though, one less bgh for Rag/Boom/Malorne.
"Or of course, because you are 'a strong, independent deck builder, who needs no blizzard to tell them what to include', you make your deck deliberately weaker." - Skaduush1
Poison seeds synergy, could result in a new kind of deck. Though it will probably be as bad as Beast Druid, which relies on a single BGHable card to justify its existance.
Druid is the worst class to gain from 'cost less for minions died this turn', as it has no weapon, fewer minions than normal, and no good board wipe. So don't bother using this card. This card is only slightly better than Ironbark Protector, and on some occasion even still worse.
it's clearly meant for the Starfall [/card] [card]poison seed combo, when it happens it will be nice but it's not always going to happen. maybe they are trying to push a control driud with board wipe into a 7/8 taunt? idk, i'm sure someone will get creative with it though
Three card combo to clean wipe + big taunt on turn 10 seems... reasonable.
However, you need at least 4 minions on the enemy board and 1 on yours, or.. 3 minions on enemy board and 3 on yours. How many times to you survive to see this scenario? I guess making the assumption that "boards are always filled with minions for me to do this degenerate thing" just isn't good for evaluating this card.
But then, any card that can reduce mana cost repeatedly in some way (cough.. Mechwarper.. cough Emperor Thaurissan.. cough..) is somewhat exploitable. So we will see.

After playing with it in the Druid's challenge, I can definitely say it's among the worst class card ever made. It sits dead in your hand, and die to everything.
It took me 3 tries to win (don't laugh) but the final try got out a Lumberer for 3 mana and that turned the tide. It'll never work in constructed, of course, but I still may make a funsies deck with Dark Wispers and this and other standard token cards.
Lol Ironbark Protector's little brother. Same thing even shittier. Seems like Blizzard anticipated the impact of Emperor Thaurissan on Druids and thus gave them bad cards.

Of course it is. People are trying to justify it but it's really bad card.
Really? It won me the Druid challenge pretty much on its own.
Then again, I don't really expect my opponent as to be so kind as to line up a whole long row of 1/1s for me in competitive play. Sure, I get the chance to punish token (and occasionally aggro) decks really hard. But I'm not sure that's a worthwhile trade off for an otherwise weak card.
Like I said earlier in this thread, I'll probably give it a shot in a token druid, and I do think it'll probably be worth running one of in mill. But it's not going to be that hot in decks based on the current meta, and I think we all knew that going in.
I've been running two in a deathrattle based druid. They do work pretty well, once volcanic drake hits, I think this type of deck will be a bit more viable for druid.

Poison Seeds -> Starfall =9 mana, -2 cost per enemy minion, -1 bonus for minions that spawn deathrattles with 2 or less hp. 99% a free Lumberer
Swipe = 4 mana, If used well/against paladin then -3/-4 and Lumberer comes out, otherwise less value, but that makes it also a bad swipe in most cases
Force of nature = 6 mana, between -3 and -6 depending on how well you trade with trees 50/50 whether you can play lumberer as well
Onyxia/Dark Wispers previous turn -> Soul of the Forest = 4 mana, -1 cost per minion and grants you stupid crazy treants for savagely roaring
This card sets the board rolling for minion spamming druids to claw their way into power.
there are a lot of conditions you need to meet in order to make lumberer viable, and we all know conditional cards are usually not good cards, especially in the BGH meta, you could potentially use a lot of resources to set up lumberer just to have opponent's BGH win the game in a turn.
i'm not saying lumberer wouldn't be fun to play with all that combos, but i can't justify by saying the card is good.

This is not a bad card. You just have to play arena.
This could be good in fatigue Druid since it runs poison seed

Maybe this will help make poison seeds viable.

Watched TidesofTime stream last night running a druid with two of these. He did well, they were effective.
this card is probably the worst card out of the BRM set.

Nerubian egg > dragon egg . In this case anyway. Though do like dragon egg in priest quite a bit.

Majordomo Executus and Rend Blackhand are glaring at you.
