Blackrock Mountain is getting close and with it, we're getting more and more cards spoiled. There is one thing in common with the majority of the spoiled cards: they are built around midrange.
Aggro is getting almost no love with this new instalment and whereas most people think the developers are trying to push us towards control i believe that if the rest of the cards are like what we've seen so far then midrange will reign supreme!
The revealed dragon-related minions are all purely value cards. They look like they're meant to be played alongside Azure Drakes and Twilight Drakes, trying to outvalue the opponent. If Blizzard meant to help us cast the Aspects, those cards would be focusing on clearing the board and ramping, rather than achieving good trades and value. At the same time, the majority of class-specific cards that we're getting are built around mid game tempo and board presense. Also playing into the midrange craze!
All that being said, Dr. Boom is and has been since his release the king of the mid game. Come BRM, turn 7 looks like it will be more important than ever and that can make our dear doctor an even bigger menace than he already is.
I thought the three current "Whenever this card takes/survive damage" was to mitigate the random damage that the Boom Bot does, since right now, the worst that can happen from those is either Acolyte of Pain or Nerubian Egg activation.
That said, it doesn't look like those three cards are good enough to warrant constructed play.

They tried the same with Undertaker in GvG(Little Exorcist). We all saw how that turned out.
I agree with the OP. Aggro currently is the only playstyle that can reliably deal with Boom since it's no taunt and takes up a whole turn, so it doesn't interfere too much with the rushdown. As the game gets slower, late-game value cards become stronger and Boom is the king of this category.
Killing a Boom Bot still has a better effect than any of the "When this minion takes damage" card. The only one I can definitely see people using is Imp Gang Boss, and that's an early game card that'll probably have bought the farm by the time Dr. Boom drops. Even if the Boss is still around, so what if it gets hit? Oh no! An Imp! How will Dr. Boom compete?!
This is the real issue that people aren't discussing much... without new mechanics (non-rng mechanics) and without any sort of limited format (which seems ruled out) then new cards don't happen in a vacuum which means great cards right now will still be great cards after BRM and likely even the next expansion. You can't mitigate a single card by introducing a weaker card that is purely a direct counter because with such a small deck size and such fast games this is almost assured destruction.
BRM is clearly the attempt to slow the game down into more midrange/control but again without additional mechanics the best it is going to do is realistically extend games by 2-4 turns (and that is optimistic). Aggro/face is still going to be just as deadly after BRM and most likely those players will just pick the couple BRM cards that bolster their deck and keep on trucking. Without doing one of the two things I mentioned, the only other option to slow the game down would be more Antique Healbot type cards that make aggro fizzle out too soon to be viable. I'd be OK with that approach as it would be a decent stop-gap until the next real expansion and potential big changes or new mechanics. Anything short of that is not going to invalidate existing strong cards and decks.
Exactly this. I'm for nerfing Boom but if they really want to commit to not nerfing him like they said, the least they could do is release an actual counter. I mean come on, 8/4 stats, really?
He should be atleast 4/8 or better and even then he could still die to the Boom bots, so it still would go 1 for 1 with Boom part of the time. 4/8 might be strong stats for that Battlecry but if they want to stick to their word and not nerf him, then they should go with the power creep and make Rend just as OP as Boom, not this 8/4 crap stats that won't even come close to contesting Boom.
One or the other Blizz, nerf it or give us stronger cards. Makes no sense to make Rend have such shit stats after saying you are committed to Boom staying unnerfed.
NTM it is creating the perception that BRM is "underwhelming." But that's bound to happen when you release a bunch of OP stuff in one expansion and then try to make the next expansion more balanced. Gotta nerf or continue power creeping, one must exist. Rend having bad stats and not nerfing Boom, does not make sense, something is wrong here. Buff Rend or nerf Boom.
At this point i'm pretty convinced that Blizzard will be forced to acknowledge the Boom problem and nerrf him right after BRM hits, exactly like the Undertaker nerf. Attempting to counter an OP card with balanced answers cannot work, and the new meta they are pushing will make his power even more obvious than it already is

The answer to everything: yes.
I thought the answer to everything was violence?

Rend Blackhand is supposed counter Dr. Boom :P
Oh wait, he dies to a single Boom Bot.
