It's a good card in tempo mague but not a card to build a deck arround it IMHO. There are some tech, usefull cards in several decks or staple indeed like ArmorsmithAcolyte of Pain or Amani Berserker from Piloted Shredder that can take huge benefit from it's triggered effect and act as a direct counter to it.
But well... thats just because i like to be a jerk and correct other peoples statements. I actually do agree on the rest and i don't really get why everyone is still talking about mech mage as if that is the deck this card would need to fit into.
Mech Mage has been on a decline for weeks now and tempo/midrange Mage is actually much more popular these days and seeing how they already utilitize cheap spells for synergy with Mana Wyrm and Sorcerer's Apprentice i don't really see how this card wouldn't be a great addition to that deck especially since their other 3 drop - Kirin Tor Mage - is highly conditional.
I've said it before and i will say it again this is my favourite BRM card so far and i am convinced that this will see play.
Exactly! 2-4 for a 3 drop is not bad at all. If it survives, the opponent will have to deal with 2 random damage. It synergises so well with turn 3 this into turn 4 frostbolt + something. The fact that it fills a nice spot as a 3 drop is also worth mentioning. Tempo mage will really like this card.
It just looks like a cool, useful and not-overpowered card to me. Not my favourite card due to random damage, but it will be useful for sure.
This is the best card shown so far and it will strengthen a lot tempo mage which is already poweful and currently underrated in my opinion. I dont see it in mech mage or a spare parts generator deck, but in a deck that plays efficiently on curve, with mana wraiths, unstable portals and apprentices.
I noticed a lot of players talk about the Flamewalker being really good in MechMage, but I doubt that'd work since Blastmage works just as well. My biggest expectations is Flamewalker into Tempo mage with all the low mana cards like flamecannon, frostbolt, unstable portal, secrets. I'm really excited for this card.
Here's what I'm thinking, why run it in mech mage. I would just throw in the mechs that give spare parts into a deck. Then add this guy and other spells. From there just find cards that synergize well with all of that.

But you would have to leave some cards out ... to include him, and would you give up any mech or card that synergise from it for the wakers ? thats why most ppl think (me included) that it makes more sense to have him on a tempo mage (may be on freeze mage for the last round bursts, but not sure).

You can cut the secrets and mad scientists. Those is like pure value/tempo cards that do not really have much synergy with mechs nor spells.
I believe he has more potential in mech than freeze, as freeze have little board presence. He will probably shoot a lot at froze enemy minions. Making cuts in freeze mage is rough! Polymorph, 2nd flamestrike and cone of cold is already out, so new included cards need to be game breaking like emperor tharuissan. Flamewaker... idk...
Aggro and spell-tempo are probably the best fits imo.

and then you realize that you only have 30 card slots for a deck ...
Still trying to see if this card is viable... trying it in my tempo mage, and it is absurd if you get two of these on the board at once, especially with a sorcerer's apprentice. Missiles for days!
Had to cut secrets for him though and add a lot more aggro/early drops.
Laddering with Facehunter now (I know, I know, but realistically it's the fastest deck to ladder with) and it's filled with Mages around rank 6-7 NA playing Flamewaker and cheap spells. It's a huge pain having to expend damage (which could have gone to face, face, FACE!!!) to kill it because I can't leave it around to threaten my low health minions like Wolfrider, Worgen Infiltrator or even Huffer.
Quite tough to get around Flamewaker+Coin+Mirror Image on T3
I played against a Flame Waker mage yesterday. It seemed like it might be viable, but my 2x Fireguards, 2x Hungry Dragons plus my Bomb Lobbers cut it short badly. I would guess that you need that early game to get going, and if opponent has high HP minion, things could get a lot tougher.

This, plus all the current cards that benefit off of just taking damage. Flamewaker mage struggles against Pain warrior and locks with Imp Gang Boss. You just end up flooding their board.
Good points asteroidm. I wonder if ultimately it is the existence of those archtypes/cards that will make it so it will never be a ladder mainstream. Similar to my BIG 'SPLOSHUNS!!! deck that has every exploding card I can find (mad bombers, madder bombers, Flame Leviathan). It is oddly powerful, and I go through huge win streaks, but I come across those types of deck (esp patron warrior) and I think it is literally unwinnable. But holy crap it is fun as hell!!

Arcane Missiles value!
A knight in shining armour is a man who has never had his metal truly tested.

I will crush you!

i think people think itll work in mech mage because of the spare parts.
Check out my decks & feel free to make suggestions!
Maybe this could make more mages without secrets viable? I will try this in both mech-, tempo- and aggromage with this.
I really dont know if it will be good, but paladins, hunters and zoo without egg or gang-boss on board will hate this for sure!

i doubt this fill be able to fit into mech mage, but it has great potential in tempo mage if thats still a viable thing to run
Just had a turn 3 Flamewaker, turn 4 coin, Kirin Tor Mage, Mirror Entity and Frostbolt ... won me the game.
Meta changes the moment you switch your deck.

Here is my first version of the Flamewaker aggro mage. It is very fun to play, and I am pretty sure the archetype is viable with some tweeks!
