Hit me like a ton of bricks the perfect balance fix so Mage isn't so heavily picked and Arena dominated. Flamestrike doesn't have to be changed at all the ability itself. Change Flamestrike to be rare, not a common. Boom fixed. Less chance to draft. Doesn't effect constructed at all and will make Arena much more healthy, balanced and fun. Very simple change. Am hoping Blizzard and people get behind this.
We really need this change people. Arena will be much more fun with a healthier Hero pool.
This is a good idea, but will Blizzard implement it? I doubt it. I don't think Flamestrike alone is the problem, because you can play around it. Bait it out with small minions, or drop larger minions that can survive the 4 damage. The problem is Flamestrike in combination with Fireball, Polymorph, and Water Elemental. These four cards are all basic, and all very powerful. Not only is Water Elemental insane in the early game killing basically all 2 and 3 drops, it can also freeze larger minions in the late game. Fireball can kill any minion up to 7 health in combination with fireblast, and for anything over 7 health they have Polymorph. Play small minions? Flamestrike and Water Elemental get you. Play big minions? Fireball and Polymorph get you.
Although Flamestrike is undoubtedly the sharpest tool in the Mage's arsenal, do not pin Mage's power solely on one card (in 50% of drafts you won't get the opportunity to pick one specific basic class card such as flamestrike or fireball; my 11 win Mage had no Flamestrikes, but it did have Fireballs, Water Elementals, and Polymorphs). It is the combination of good, low rarity cards that makes Mage overpowered in Arena.
Flamestrike isn't a common, it is a basic card, without rarity, if it turns into a rare, another card has to fill the spot on basic cards, or all other classes must lose a basic card to balance card numbers (no problem with that, if multishot, swipe, consecration, holy nova, fan of knives and cleave became rare too... idk what warlock and shaman cards can be turned into rares in this case).
Their hero power is significantly stronger than flamestrike.
Of course, there's also fireball and frostbolt. IMO, fireball shouldn't be able to hit the hero. Why did most of druid nukes get that change but mage didn't?

The druid nukes which cannot target the hero have the choose one mechanic...
While a 4 flamestrike deck can be totally insane you should always consider flamestrike if you play against mage and if you do that, then it's not that crazy since it's a 7 mana card. If you play around MCT you play around flamestrike and I think you should play around MCT so I don't see the horror of Flamestrike.
I am surprised that Mage is the concern of arena balancing. I think the focus should be on WARRIOR instead of Mage. Warrior is so damn weak in arena and the GVG expansion has weakened warrior a lot in arena.
Where have you guys been over the last two years? This has been suggested hundreds of times on this forum and several other throughout the internet. The argument that Flamestrike should be a Rare was valid before the Naxx expansion came out. The problem was not the rarity of cards by itself, but rather the fact the game didn't have that many cards to begin with.
For those of you who don't know, basic cards share the same arena draft bracket as a common. As it stood back then, many of the most powerful mage cards happen to be basic (Frostbolt, Fireball, Polymorph and Flamestrike. You would draft a bunch of these very often because the chance they would be a choice during a draft was higher than other classes. Nowadays there are tons of new cards, and as a avid Arena player, I can tell you that it's now way more unlikely that you get a 4 fireball or 3 flamestrike deck.
That's the whole concept of Arena. You should expect to be Flamestrike'd on turn 7, the same way you should expect fireball and/polymorph on turn 4. Don't blame the fact a card is common to justify it being nerfed.

If you agree drop a note.

my main problem with arena is the limitless count of a single copy of a card:
he just used 4 swipes... he doesnt has a 5th, right?... and there comes another swipe -,.-
Since when did Flamestrike wreck arenas ? I've had many 12 wins in arena without playing the Mage.
Used to be a proud Handlock player.
Legend 17 times.
Still flirting with the ladder from times to times with Renolock.

I like the idea !
My first 12 wins arena was very funny:
I got 4 ( F O U R ) flamestrikes in the deck.
Some of my opponents concede after third Flamestrike.
Flamestrike is OP in arena and Blizzard know that.....
