Does overload trigger when the minion or spell was brought out in a way other then played from hand? IE Alarm-o-Bot on Earth Elemental
Edit: I think the overload still triggers "Overload acts as part of the effect of the card not an additional cost to play the card. “An effect happens, Overload 2”." From the discussion about counters and rogue combo. To me, this makes overload sound just as valid as taunt on a card brought into play through other means. If that's all right, what happens if you can't pay your full overload cost :x
Overload triggers on the same ways a Battlecry triggers. Whenever you play a card, like summoning it from the hand, Battlecry and Overload is triggered. But whenever you summon a card, usually when the card reaches the board through an external effect like using the Alarm-o-Bot or "revival" spells, the Battlecry and Overload is ignored.
It's a bit vague but they are going to clean up the wording on the cards so you can more easily understand how it acts.
Well not exactly the way it works. They just confirmed, that overload doesnt trigger when its countered by counterspell, because it isnt an additional cost. But Battlecrys still trigger when they get shot by snipe for example. But we still dont know what happens with overload minions, that get shot by snipe.
Why wouldn't overload still count on a minion that didn't survive the turn? Spells have overload costs and don't stay in play to see it paid, same thing?

Well but blue says: "Overload acts as part of the effect of the card not an additional cost to play the card. “An effect happens, Overload 2”. So if the card is countered, Overload will NOT come into effect." I also didnt say that the minion has to survive the turn. I said it doesn't trigger by just putting it on the board from hand. So Overload is more like "when successfully played" in my eyes.
Oh ya I guess in Snipe's case it needs to fully resolve first, is there any indication as to what happens to a Divine Shield or Deathrattle minion when Snipe's lurking? That would probably answer the overload/snipe thing too. If Overload is "when successfully played" then it wouldn't trigger from AlarmOBot.
Since you didn't pay any Mana to summon it, there really is no Mana to "Overload"... Just sayin' :P

I disagree. Battlecry is when it "Enters" Play, doesn't matter if it was played or summoned or what not, if it entered play by any means, it triggers.
2. Battlecry only works when the card was played from hand. So summoning with AlarmOBot, Ancestral Spirit, Mindgames and other stuff doesnt trigger the Battlecry.
That makes no sense... Battlecry is when something enters play, that's how similar effects behave in all TCGs. >_<

Battlecry is when something is played not summoned. This distinction does exist in other TCG's and is usually written out "If played from your hand" or similarly. Blizz did the same thing when explaining the difference in Played and Summoned just in less words. What this thread is trying to figure out is if Overload is the same as Battlecry in its triggers or more like Taunt, existing as a global effect of the card to be triggered the turn after it entered play.

But the wording says "enters play", not "is played"... I guess they'll clear that up in the future maybe. >_<

Thanks for letting me know. ^.^
What wording says enters play?
Also Zeriyah was kind enough to weigh in on this. Overload's like battlecry and Snipe happens after all the minions effects resolve, not just battlecry.

Also to add to that question, does Ancestral spirit (when a minion dies, bring it back to the battlefield) also trigger Overload.

What spells counter minions, counterspell itself?
If you mean the Battlecry effect, if im not wrong, no card at moment can counter it.
