Most likely the first to be nerfed imo. Mage got Grommash Hellscream and Archmage Antonidas on me. thing is you can't get a bad card, why? because every card -3 mana is overpowered if it's a low cost minion you play same turn for free if it's a high cost minion there's a very good chance its going to be a legendary. This creates an unsatisfactory experience and makes it not fun. Which is exactly what blizzard prefaces every nerf with. So I can nearly garuntee it will be nerfed but how and when? P.s. Save your goldens
You can complain everyday and create thousands of vine-threads, but still mages will use Unstable Portal. And yes, i don't think it will be nerfed, it's balanced - bad cards out of portal means you wasted 2 cards with your own hand on deckbuilding stage.
It's not going to be nerfed. Class cards are supposed to be slightly OP and Unstable Portal is not excessively so. Yes, you most likely will get a discounted card from it, but this is counterbalanced by the fact that the card is random and might not synergise well with the deck you have.
Also, contrary to what you say, it is a super fun card. Even when it is being used on me, I am always curious to see what card my opponent got from it. If he gets some lame card like a Wisp or Captain's Parrot, I feel happy.
For every person getting a legend from Unstable Portal asked for it to be nerfed, there is another person getting Wisps or Angry Chickens asking for it to be boosted.
Portal is okayish in constructed (lowering it to "(2) less" would still be fine) and usually way to strong in arena. Since HS doesn't balance around arena, everything is fine. ;)
In constructed, if you play it early without getting a minion you can play instantly, depending on your opponents deck and curve, you've usually lost the game already. Playing it midgame, results can (more or less) instawin or loose you the game (king krush for turn 6 etc.). In late game the result is usually easily manageable, players managed 14 mana single turn druids playing double ancient of war...
Which makes it so strong in arena, where removals aren't guaranteed. 9 out of 10 you get a card costing 3 or more, so you save mana while sacrificing zero (if timed right).

Edit: After trying it out i got three legendaries in a row, some of the good ones... I still dont think its going to be nerfed but its a really good card.
The legendary drop rate does seem much higher than it should be. I seem to get a legendary about 20-30% of the time, which is higher than the proportion of legendaries in the game. Someone should run a test to see whether the card draw is truly random.
I can definitely relate to the OP's frustration but I also don't feel it will be nerfed any time soon.
The thing with Unstable Portal is there are far more decent draws than bad. Hell, there's more extremely good/broken draws than bad. You have to have pretty bad luck to get a bad draw with it. Of course, most people that play it enough will see a bad card every once in a while. Hell, I've seen a bad card a few times and I barely play mage. However, you're much more likely to see decent or good cards.
That's pretty much it. Captain's Parrot is just terrible but in arena, it can still be useful. Alarm-o-bot is equally terrible but given perfect conditions can be good. Lastly Starving Buzzard is terrible but even then, it just makes it a vanilla 2 mana 3/2 and in arenas, it's still possibly to gain card draw. So, even these completely terrible cards still aren't even that bad, they're just not going to be as useful as just about any other draw.
So, these cards along with the 0-1 cost minions make up about 15% of the minion pool, meaning that every time you cast Unstable Portal, there's approx an 85% chance that you'll get something that isn't atrocious. Now I'm not suggesting that every other card is going to be amazing, but every other card with the discounted cost is going to end up being pretty decent and many of the times, will be outright overpowered.

Actually, most two-drops are bad too. Rationally speaking, your Unstable Portal must draw you a two-drop that you would have included in your deck if Unstable Portal didn't exist as a card (and you needed to replace it). If it draws you any other two-drop, you would have lost value from Unstable Portal, since you are paying 2 mana for a two-drop that you would not have included in your deck.
It isn't that great of a card. The OP got rekt by some bad RNG, but Unstable Portal hardly has the market on RNG cornered. Same mage could have just got Mana Wyrm, Coin, and Mirror Image on turn 1. Do we need to nerf the coin? After the 'cool' factor wears off, this card will see far less play.

Free to try and find a game, dealing cards for sorrow, cards for pain.
It's not broken at all. It's random. Is priest's thoughtsteal also broken because they can get your legendaries? Of course not, that's what they pay for. Besides, look at this.
This will be nerfed. As it should be. It's becoming auto-include. It's a free spell for Mana Wyrm and it is far more likely to be helpful than bad. Dropping it to 2 off or removing legendaries would probably do it.

For example Power word: Shield also auto-include, no one wants to nerf it though.
There is a huuuge difference in giving a minion + 2hp & drawing one card as opposed to being able to drop Cairne on turn 3...
yeah one is a great tempo play which when combined with the hero power can be extremely powerful and one will only happen 1:359 times you sacrifice turn 2.
Sarcasm aside, if you look at the best case scenario of any card with random on it, then its gonna be OP. That's the point of random. You sacrifice consistency for the chance at a significant power boost.
Sigh, there are just so many illogical people around who cannot count properly.
"OMG Unstable Portal is OP because you can get a 1 mana Piloted Shredder or 3 mana Cairne!"
Actually, you already paid 2 mana for whatever card you got by playing Unstable Portal. So in the best case scenario, the mana reduction is only one (and sometimes it will be zero or negative). Yes, it sometimes allows you to play a strong card ahead of the curve, but Druids are guaranteed to be able to do that their Innervates, which no one is screaming to be nerfed.
Also, keep in mind that you lose tempo everytime you play Unstable Portal and cannot instantly play the card you got that turn (you effectively passed your turn 2), so it is only fair that you gain back tempo when you eventually do play the card you got.
Compared to T1 Undertaker, T2 2x Leper Gnome, I'd gladly go against T1 Mana Wyrm T2 Portal. Which is more threatening on turn 3, a 3/4 +2x 2/1 + 4 damage to face, or a 2/3 and any random card still in the hand, yet to be played?

The list of bad draws, (IMO):

Yes you can, there's a few mentionned in this topic. Personnally I got 3 wisps in 2 days (and against classes like mage or druid).
But most of the time you get ok/average stuff. And once in a while an over/underpowered creature. Not worth a nerf imo.

I really want Pirates to be a playable theme.

I thought he card would be good, but actually it is OP as hell
While it can get big legendaries, even meh card can be insanely good. A windfury harpy for 3 mana by turn 3 makes for insane value

I was playing as control warrior, There's the Irony.
