Well as you know, Dr. Boom and Neptulon have power creeped War Golem, Blizzard knows this.I was thinking for a while how Blizzard would nerd these cards, then I realized ''why nerf when you can buff?'' I would need your opinion on the matter. What if war Golem was a 7 mana 7/8 with taunt?
This shit again? Can't we just accept some cards are just going to be underwhelming? Can't just cards be replaced overtime? Isn't that the whole point of an expansion? Seriously people, there's got to be bad cards for there to be good cards.
You'll notice that Blizzard did not make stronger versions of cards that were already frequently played (unless you consider Mech Yeti stronger than Chillwind).
This is plain silly. Take Silverback Patriarch vs Gnomeregan Infantry. They have the same cost (3) the same attack value (1) the same life points (4) and both have Taunt. BUT, the latter has CHARGE too.
What does it mean? That the only reason to play Silverback is in a beast deck (pretty rare event, as there are 3 mana alternatives).
In short, Silverback is 99% a dead card we'll never see again. Welcome to this game.
One is a beast, while the other is not. They have different synergies and the first might be stronger than the later in certain decks.
I believe that Blizzard, in time, will adjust cards by changing their type to allow for better synergies. It's a way to buff a card without buffing it.
War Golem could be a giant, just like in WoW, for example. Same for other never played cards, like Magma Rager
Why would you play either of those cards (except in some Hobgoblin concept deck)? :p
I like Gnomereagan cause we don't have many Taunts with Charge. For 4 mana a paladin can have a 4/4 with charge and taunt using Blessing of Might + Gnomereagan Infantry.
And they take up two slots, a more precious commodity than a minion with charge+taunt.
I don't think that this is a big deal or anything but totally agree that an online-only CCG should take advantage of the fact that cards can be buffed or nerfed quite easily.
To a far greater extent than M:tG, Hearthstone does attempt to keep cards balanced, so I don't think that it should be considered a given that some cards will be inherently weaker than others.
One thing which I wouldn't be keen on is any buffs turning a dud card in to a tier 1 or tier 2 card. If a card is so poor that there is room to buff it and leave the constructed metagame totally unchanged then I would be mildly in favour of it.
My reasoning here would be that I don't like the effect that unplayable cards have on arena where you will sometimes be presented with three unplayables to choose from.
For example, I would be happy with War Golem moving to 7/8 as it would still not see play in constructed but would be more palatable as an Arena pick. However, 7/8 Taunt would put it slightly above the curve and give it constructed potential (I still wouldn't use it myself, but...).
As long as the buff wasn't significant, such a change would please those who are offended by the Golem's current stats without offending those who, for whatever reason, don't like nerfs & buffs.
are we discussing the goodness of Gnomereagan Infantry? It was just an example. Charge is valued a lot more than "beast". I was just pointing out that for the same mana Blizz made 2 almost identical cards that have quite different value.
(and, seriously, are you asking what's better between a card with charge and another one without charge?)
Build an entire deck around a minion type and you will see which one has better value.
Just imagine if it was a Demon, Mech or Murloc card instead of a Beast.
It's like comparing Knife Juggler and Puddlestomper. The later might seems to be a lot worse at face value, but play it with all those Murloc buffs and you will have greater value than you probably would if you had put a Knife Juggler in the deck instead.

Power creep is only applicable with cards that are directly comparable. Dr. Boom and Neptulon, as legendaries, have the two disadvantages that they are less frequently an option in arena and are limited to one copy in constructed. Obviously, these are subjective "disadvantages" - you might even consider the real disadvantage to be that War Golem comes up more frequently - but the fact remains that a direct comparison cannot be made and there is not, for example, a common 7/8 in the game; that would be objective, undeniable power creep. For now, this hasn't happened.
I dont understand why a card like War Golem is compared with a legendary like Dr. Boom.
Just because a card spawns tokens and one doesnt doesnt mean it former is good in every aspect than the latter. The boom-bots can even backfire giving your opponent a quicker sea giant or a better Unleash or even buffing their Gahz'rilla to insane levels.Arguments can also be made for Neptulon and his overload.
In the arbitrary card-creating formula that some people swear by, they always forget that you can only have ONE OF ANY GIVEN LEGENDARY in a deck. That in itself is a "con" when comparing cards.
Obviously, I still think this entire topic is very funny because people are complaining about completely pointless minions. Sure, make him 6/7 taunt and make them happy. Will Blizzard do that? Not at all, because it will not provide a better (or worse) experience for any players. It really does surprise me how many threads have been created on this topic alone.

At least he is better than Flame Leviathan.

War Golem is soulbound aka FREE. Free cards SHOULD be weaker than naxx and GvG cards
Dr. Boom and Neptulon are the War Golem buffs.
You'll notice that Blizzard did not make stronger versions of cards that were already frequently played (unless you consider Mech Yeti stronger than Chillwind).

Both cards are good in their own places.
