Wait a week or two, meta should stabilize by then.
This is such a horrible argument. Just wait until everyone else has had the fun with experimenting!
I'm having lots of fun with an unrefined hero power mage deck :)
OP has 1700 dust and is asking if the card is any good. What should I say - sure craft it - and potentially struggle on ladder for the next month or two. I'm quite sure that if OP was only interested in having fun he would simply craft it without even posting here. Experimenting is a privilege of wealthy.
Its an instacraft for any mage regardless of meta. Really fun to play and if you like mages like me, its a good investment.
It’s a 10 mana card that requires some turns of investment. It’s impactful right away which is good, but I wouldn’t say it’s good regardless of the meta.
It's a lot of fun when you pull it off (fnar fnar) but unless your deck is focused on your hero power, that doesn't happen every time. I think the question is, are you motivated by winning or by playing for fun? If you want to win, I'd hold off on crafting it until those who already have it have play tested it. If you just love the memes, go for it!

well I agree with both :) experimenting is sure fun, and playing a good deck before meta stabilizes is the best. but also, since I'm down to my last resort, I dont want to waste it (ahh I miss the mass dust gain after HoF'd cards). I was just wondering if everyone would say something like "yeah go for it it is a really good card dont worry" or "well, I am playing the deck, even though it is fun, the winrate isnt that good"
I mean I wonder whether people think after meta stabilizes the card will be viable or not.
but thank you all for your thoughts and answers. I guess I will wait a bit since not everyone thinks that the deck will be tier 1 or 2.
I guess you've already got your answer, but I figure I could chime in.
I crafted this first thing, since I didn't get him in packs, and I was stoked for HP mage.
I'm feeling a bit underwhelmed with the deck so far, but I'd say it has a lot of room to grow, and it is a lot of fun when it works out. I think in the long run, it will be a played card and there will be good decks supporting it. I wouldn't be surprised if there were a sprinkling of hero power synergy cards in the next two expansions this year. (or at least in the mini set)
So I'm calling it a safe craft for mage enthusiasts, but individual mileage will vary. (and maybe not a good choice if you only have enough dust for 1 card)
Free win against Warrior/Priest/Warlock or anything that doesn't constantly hit your face.
Very difficult against hyper aggro, moderately difficult against tempo.
Draw order dependant, if Incanter's Flow and Wildfire are at the bottom of your deck, you're gonna need your "discover a spell" cards to save your ass.
Quite a hard deck to refine without looking at netdecks, it took me a while to figure out how many minions I wanted in the deck.
I suggest playing C'Thun, the Shattered as an alteranate win condition, Mordresh won't always make the cut against control deck, but it can clear the path for C'thun. And Warlock trying to Tickatus your ass generally won't discard your 2 win conditions.
Generally speaking, I never hesitate to craft cards I want to experiment with for the sake of having fun. I like deck building and reaching legend with my own creations, even if they aren't tier 1.
That being said, if you have to ask if it's safe to craft a card or not, it implies that you don't have spare dust to waist on cards that might not yield results in the long run. In which case, then I agree that the best advice is to wait and see if a meta deck that uses it takes off.
As of right now, there are no safe cards to craft. Assuming you're playing standard, this meta is the biggest shift the game has ever seen and it's impossible to know if a card is safe to craft or not. If you aren't comfortable spending 1600 dust on a card that might only see play for the next week or two before it's forgotten about, your best bet is to simply wait.
Button mage is going to be a meta deck, maybe not tier 1, but it will be viable. I would say go ahead and craft him if you have all the other pieces for button mage. It will be a good counter to warlock, which will be the only control deck. Priest can out heal mage, but priest will be dead as long as tickatus is around. You’re probably going to eat a ton of losses to pally and rogue though.

I think the card is cool and great, but I dont know how good hero power mage is. I'm down to about 1700 dust.
what do you think? is it worth a craft?
Just wait a few days or even weeks to evaluate how good the card and deck will be.
Always expect the unexpectable!

Do you need other people to tell you what you like or not ? If you like it and want to play it, craft it, if not, just don't ...

I've got him from pack, thinking how to use now.
As a cabal player (i.e. Control Priest/Warlock/Mage) I would have crafted him golden if it wasn't for the art, which I really don't like.
Take a walk on the wild side...
I've played with him a little, but not enough to say anything for certain, but so far he have been okay, but nothing spectacular.

All I can say is the card has beaten me over and over playing control warrior.
Do it!
Det är bättre med en fågel i hand, än tiger i träd!

So far my experience with Spell/HP mage is :
Free win against Warrior/Priest/Warlock or anything that doesn't constantly hit your face.
Very difficult against hyper aggro, moderately difficult against tempo.

If the opponent plays Far Watch Post and Crossroads Watch Post, DON'T ignore them, kill at all cost.

Trash deck.
Im going 0-6 in bronze 10 :S
