Turn 2 8/8? Pft. Brother I've seen turn 1 10/10s in standard ladder. Coin, Foxy Fraud, Shadowstep, Foxy Fraud, Edwin. With one more Shadowstep, or a Backstab, it could have been even bigger.
This is a rarity, though, and there are ways to play against it. Edwin doesn't need a nerf, the evolution mechanic in Shaman and resurrection mechanic in Priest does.

This is just as bad as Evolve Shaman ad lesser Res Priest. Res Priest you can somewaht play around / make it to turn 10.
Games shouldn't be over before turn 3~5 because you can deal with that boardstate (only a few classes can deal with a 10-10 Edwin at those turns).
Also with all the Lackeys and other card generation there isn't even a downside. You dump your hand, gt a 8/8 or more on turn 3 AND have a full hand still. Either he needs to go or they need to stop comming up with all this card generation.
As long as there is a good 1 or 2 cost battlecry minion, Shadow Step, and the coin, Edwin will be coming down on 2 as an 8/8 for very little effort. Answers to that do exist (as they do for every board state in the game) but that doesn't mean they are in hand, and when that's the case, it creates non games.
You could change him, but I'd rather see him remain the same so people that love him can continue to play him in wild where he isn't an issue.
I don't think you can keep him AND Shadow Step. Personally I'd rather keep Shadow Step, it allows Rogues to make plays that feel Rogue. Replace him with something more Rogue-like, more tricksy. How Rogue-like is a massive minion anyway?
Personally, I like HOF rather than nerf. It's not just because I think Edwin is too swingy, but also because I think removing him opens up space for other cool big combo cards that Rogue can get instead.
Bummer. Edwin was the best of the classic legendaries. He had great Rogue flavor, and he was generally good in most decks. His removal is final nail in the coffin of the classic legendaries. The others are occasionally, situationally useful, but that's it.
Edwin wasn't even problematic until they created Foxy. Just nerf Foxy! Such an easy solution.

This.
Cards that can do this shouldn't excist. No matter how often it happens.

Blizz should buff Vancleef's stats and make him cost 2 more mana. More likely they'll just wait until lackeys are gone.
HoF

After so many years of BrokeBack, Blizzard finally nerfed him

Bye edwin!! Haha called it.
He will go HOF?? confirmed?
Should we be dusting our Van Cleef's now? I didn't even use mine when it was broken :_(

He wasn't removed, just costs 1 more mana...
This nerf doesn't actually do anything in the common, disgusting scenario where they play a foxy fraud, shadowstep it, and play it again.
It still gets reduced twice and costs 0.
Stupid Blizzard.
yes and he will get unnerfed.

The card should be Hall of Fame with Sorcerer's Apprentice.
