It says, "Whenever a friendly minion dies while this is in your hand", so basically the stat will change while it's in your hand, not when played. So it CAN'T be silenced. Think of how Mountain Giant and Molten Giant work, their cost dynamically changes while in your hand. I'm sure this card also works the same way, dynamically increasing its attack power while in your hand.
Am I the only one thinking this card is bad? It doesn't really do anything. To get value out of this the attack should be 5 (to kill most 4-drops) or more, which means you should have this in opening hand + muster for battle, but if the rest of your hand sucks your early game is totally ruined. Anyhow, this card belongs more to the aggro deck in my opinion.
Edit: I think this card works more like Twilight Drake than giants. =)
well, at least it's unique, but everyone runs silence in the current meta, so this will be quite useless(unless this card can't be silenced and has a "transformation" type effect wich i don't think it has because of how the card text sounds)
Very interesting card that changes based on your opponent.....Playing against a Priest you obviously want to drop this as a 4/7...I think in most games that's what it's going to be when played..Basically a vanilla 5 drop with a extra health. Overall not to exciting but has a awesome concept.
This card doesn't do anything against Rush, and control Paladin won't be-able to grow this properly in time.
In Arena this card will be sketchy. Depending on when you draw it and lots of other factors..About average.
Only type of deck this will work very well in is Aggro Paladin, playing it as a finisher. Along with Muster for Battle and a few other cards. Aggro Paladin will be making a comeback.
This card has nothing to do with Control..Straight up Aggro Deck.
have fun fitting in a BGH at a critical 3 drop slot in a 30 card deck when 120 new cards are being released..we'll c how many people are still running BGH...
I've made a deck for Bolvar. I think he's good because the normal stats of a 5 drop are around 10 so you only need to have 2 minions die, which isn't hard because you are a paladin. Any more and he just shoots up in value.
This card gets me super nervous that the Mage Legendary will indeed be Flame Leviathan, which would bum me out to no end.
We are seeing a mechanic of card in hand interactions all of a sudden, lending some credence.
Now, I wonder if Bolvar in hand would show some kind of indication on the board, when minions die, to clue the opponent in to the Bolvar gaining attack per minion. If so, that lends credence to the "Insider - Dec. 3, plus Bolvar will do crazy things to the board" post on the forums. But, as it stands, with no board indication, I think we've fairly disproven that "insider".
It's below average legendary card, far worse than Tirion, if it's not in your first 10 cards, it will probably be shit, if you are losing board and you top deck this it gives you nothing, like totally wasted space in your hand cuz you can't regain tempo with that, there are many better legendaries than that.
Maybe he's a bit weak against silence and BGH (depending on how many friendly minions dies before the 5th turn basically).
In any case he looks like a Van Cleef for Pala (or something like that) and with the new cards like Muster for Battle, i'm really curious to see if he can make the cut.
Card is trash. Worthless top deck and this card wants you to keep it in your opening hand despite it being a 5 drop. Paladin needed more early game, not something like this. Card is weak to silence as well. Pretty disappointed since the art/lore are so cool.
Good news - now we know the kid who said GvG was dropping Dec. 3rd from an 'inside source' was lying ("Bolvar changes the whole playing field! Like the board itself changes when you play him!")
Bad news - GvG isn't dropping Dec. 3rd. Aaaand this card, if silenceable, is just gonna make you cry every time you play him. Trust me from a dedicated VanCleef enthusiast.
Interesting mechanic. You can control the attack somewhat if you trade but if your opponent trades, this guy gets stronger and he may not know. I can see midrange Paladin being a thing now with Bolvar, Cult Master, Muster for Battle, Sludge Belcher, etc.
Just tweet Ben Brode asking if he could be silenced. Let's see what the answer will be.

Different to say the least. If it can't be silenced I will definitely be happy with it. If it can then kind of meh.

all your base.
I love the mechanic - very unique and interesting. That said, imagine trying to mulligan against a Warlock. Yikes!

sorry but this sucks, to avoid BGH at best it's a 5 mana Ogre, which would be awesome BUT you ahve to wait for 5 minions to die
bad card :(

Also,
Your votes have shed light on Bolvar Fordragon! Stay tuned, more #GvG news will be coming soon http://way.in/1wsUsi4
Card Dump INC?!
Pretty mediocre card, grate in some circumstances, very bad in other (top decking). I don't see this card in competitive play but I hope I am wrong
Well, paladin already has the best class legendary, would've been unfair if they got another good one.
