I don't think classic cards should be nerfed because new cards make them more powerful. Nerf the new cards instead.
But when a broken card means printing any future spell requires you to nerf it after release or make it so overcosted it doesnt see play isnt much better
It's painful, but it needed to happen. It's still playable in its new form, and it has been a design constraint forever. Had to be done.
The problem though, as others have mentioned, is that it essentially means every spell built around Prep was also nerfed, and we know Blizzard doesn't buff cards (outside of reverting the Molten Giant nerf during HoF).
About time Blizzard did something about Preparation. So many rogue spells were overcosted because this 3mana cheat existed. And there are also rogue spells that get oppressive when cheated out so much. There is no way you can justify Prep giving you 3 mana for a spell when Innervate was nerfed to give only 1. Even after the nerf I am sure Prep will see a lot of play, being a 0 mana combo enabler that cheats 2 mana and has spell synergy.
Yes this will nerf every single rogue deck in both standard and wild, but it needed to happen. And now...even if this momentarily kills rogue as a class, from now on Blizz will be able to design better rogue spells and we won't have to play 2x Prep in every rogue deck.
Long LONG over due! I think this is a fair nerf for a 0 mana card. It's basically innervate power level pre nerf and only for spells. So it's in line with other zero cost mana cards.
DAMN, now I regret to have dusted a golden prep a few months ago, I had already the 2 normal copies and I nedded the dust so I didn't think much about it. Well, I suppose that I will save all the bling bling cards that I get from now on.

Same as Druid with ramp etc.
Lets be honest, preperation even as it is with the nerf would be played in every other class 100% . It’s still a very good card. Yes maybe Rouge won’t be as good at the start of a new expansion cycle. But I’m sure Blizzard will give them some awesome spells in the future.
I don't mind getting the current lackey rogue nerfed, but it makes me mad to see how this affects all the fun rogue decks i am playing right now *(espionage both wild and standard, big DR rogue in wild). I just crafted Spiritsinger Umbra and Sneed's Old Shredder two weeks ago for that deck. Damn you blizzard. You just nerfed all the rogue spells (that cost 3 and more mana). Well fucking done.
Predictable after the innervate nerf. Next up is a two mana northshire cleric as soon as priests get good cards in a following expansion lul. Class identity is being eroded by getting rid of core mechanics like this.
I expected the harsher nerf of making prep cost (1) instead of (0)
the nerf was kinda expected though and i'm curious how rogue spells turn out in the future
the rogue classic set got a huge nerf with this change alone though
Isn't that pretty much exactly the same thing? Cost 1 discount 3 and cost 0 discount 2 both equal a 2 mana discount lol - or were you talking about making it cost 1 AND discount to 2 ? So pretty much innervate lol
I'm F2P, never played anything else than Rogue, don't have any class card except for Rogue's. Prep was very powerful but was a pivotal part of every single Rogue archetype (not just the current cancer tempo one) and is the card that best defines Rogue's class identity. This nerf single-handedly kills the class for a while.

I generally appreciate your thoughts even if we disagree, but in hindsight this is quite funny haha.
1) if you can’t realize for yourself how bad is nerfing the classic or basic set for keeping new players in the game, then there is no point explaining it to you.
2) the “ this card must be nerfed because it is limiting future design” excuse is the bread and butter of bad designers. In every game!
I like to see all the Rogue fanboys crying like babies...
Just be a little bit honest to yourself, and don't take the nerf as a personal attack against your favorite class.
Preparation was in almoast every single Rogue deck (the same as WildGowth and Nourish for Druid), and it was too powerfull and it also imited the design space for rogue, they could;t really print to powerfull spells for Rogue, because Preparation would make them even more OP.

it might look like exactly the same thing, it is not though. you much rather have a 0 cost prep that reduces by 2 than a 1 cost prep that reduces by 3.
if you prep eviscerate for example you spend 0 mana in the first example and 1 in the latter. also for comboing 0 mana cards are much much stronger than having 1 extra mana floating around to even start it.
on turn 3 while not having the coin it makes a huge difference for edwin if your prep costs 0 or 1 for example

Pendulum. Nerf.

Glad I'm saving my extra cards. GIMME THE DUST, BLIZZ.

I do what I must, when I must. Know this well.
Too bad half of Rogue spells are unplayable without Preparation and were designed around its original version.
LUL
Everybody crying that the standing most busted card/decks historically in HS are being changed lol just like the drood mains a few months ago

When has any card change been good?

Guess I'll stop playing HS then. See ya.

Just 2 things:
1) if you can’t realize for yourself how bad is nerfing the classic or basic set for keeping new players in the game, then there is no point explaining it to you.
2) the “ this card must be nerfed because it is limiting future design” excuse is the bread and butter of bad designers. In every game!
