I think this will have a bigger impact than it might seem. And I seriously doubt that this will lead to better Rogue spells in the future, as some people speculate.
That was to be expected, but still - man, it sucks. While you often use it on 2-mana spells, most of rogue spells have become worse. Just look at Sprint, Vanish, Academic Espionage or Fan of Knives. While this makes the card kind of fair, meta-shaping decks are not brought to life by fair cards, and rogue is designed to be about tempo swings.
Just the usual rogue nerf. This time prep is victim of poor card design in this expansion. There used to be good early game taunts before the rotation. Having the reprint (there are tons of them) of tar creeper would be more than enough to keep rogue under control. But instead the whole class is nerfed.
The only spell that was too op with prep was Raiding party at the moment. So why nerf prep too? This is exactly what happened when they decided to kill Druid instead of nerfing UI. Say it's for future card design, then why not make other balance changes to previous overcosted spells? What kind of joke is Sprint ffs? Wanted, Necrium Vial all are ridiculous cards on their own and they were balanced against the power of prep. Just that they will have an easier job making rogue spells at some point in future they wrecked the classes most loved card.
And seriously, why they never buff the worst classes to make them more competitive instead hoping they will see play after nerfing others? At least sometimes this must be the better option.
I assume the next op deck will be midrange hunter and bomb hunter they were oppressed by rogue and both were very good against the rest of the meta. It will be a healthier meta with shit load of hunters instead of rogue.
I have a stupid question, that I wanted to ask for a long time:
Would it have been better, if the devs nerfed the problematic Basic n' Classic cards in standard, but kept them untouched in wild? Wouldn't this suggestion be the best of both worlds, because it would make both types of players satisfied? Standard players will enjoy a fresh experience w/o seeing any dominant old cards popping up constantly, while the wild ones can play with their beloved archtypes without having the fear that a nerf would rend them unplayable. I know there is a flaw in this and the issue lies in the question to what extent the devs can unnerf certain cards (Warsong Commander), but this topic deserves a discussion imho. This is better than just HoFing the old sets to wild.
At first glance this smells like the Wild Growth + Nourish treatment where they clearly went overboard with the nerfs. On the other hand, maybe they just wanted to nuke an evergreen deck (Miracle Rogue) as well... who knows. If the next expansion has some additional support for Deathrattle Rogue this archetype might have a comeback so that Valeera isn't bound to go Tempo all day every day.
how does this nerf nukes miracle rogue? miracle rogue runs mostly 0~2 mana spells anyway, the only spell commonly run in miracle that costs 3 or more is fan of knives and that card is a lot of times a 1 or 0 of anyway and if rogue needs to run the card they will run it..
I like the nerf but I think they should buff some rogue cards that were balanced around preparation before: WANTED! the new contract, Sprint, Cannon Barrage.. etc
at least new high costed rogue spells will suck less now..
I understand the change, but it is just another way to disappoint me. Miracle Rogue is one of my favourite decks, a deck I still play regularly, this is a really problematic change, this was extremely important for Fan of Knives, that is how you can somewhat handle Aggro with Azure Drakes.
One less reason to play Hearthstone, losing one of my favourite decks...
Miracle Rogue is 1 of the most boring decks to play against. Let me just sit there watching while you play a million cards. Very glad for the nerf
Stop complaining about that nerf, it was overdue and I am glad it finally happened. Many of us saw it coming and prep is still going to be an autoinclude in most Rogues anyway, it's still an innervate for spells and still makes your saps/evis/coldbloods free.

We won't stop complaining because this was the wrong time for this nerf; it tells me they have no idea how this game actually works if they didn't nerf it alongside the Cold Blood nerf. They don't know what they're doing folks, that's reason enough to speak our minds about how lazy they are.

I agree that prep should have been nerfed years ago, but better late than never, and it was the right nerf with a 2 mana discount, this makes it the same as a pre nerf innervate for spells. I really wish they hit Barnes this balance patch, now big priests will become tier 0 after Rogue nerfs. Hopefully they push a second balance patch in June.
I don't think people get that this nerf is a straight shot at Rogue's class identity. Destroying classic cards isn't good for anyone, except maybe greedy rich folks. This was a tool that many F2P or new players could use. It now means they need to rebalance all the older Rogue spells (which they won't). We are stuck waiting till they release new Rogue cards every expansion, and having to buy them just to make Prep viable.
I am not saying Rogue didn't need a nerf, cause it did, but this isn't the way to go about it. It's really lazy balancing IMO.
It is a old innovate or elemental invocation both saw/is seeing play and i see no reason prep won't after the nerf. Counterfeit coin saw play and is currently seeing play in some wild big rogues.
lol, how to kill prep and fok in a single nerf..
maybe vanish could survive, but i dont know...
Nobody plays FoK and Vanish main deck. Only Myra's and Raiding Party are affected by this nerf.
I could agree with other nerfs, but this one is a total lunacy.

What a surprise, more Classic nerfs...

Meanwhile Conjurer's Calling is still 3 mana, cmon Blizzard :D
The other 2 rogue nerfs are fine, I guess.

fok was used everytime token decks (like druid in the early days of this exp) gained popularity.
anyway i was speaking more in general

so with coldblood nerf and bladeflurry nerf rogues burst got hurt.
no aoe or heal allowed.
tempo got worse.
why play rogue then?
you cant criticize cards in a vacuum and say this card needs nerf. every class works different.

if they have buffed Sprint , Cannon Barrage , Unidentified Contract , Necrium Vial, Vanish -1 I would be ok with this but this nerf pretty much killed all meme decks while only trying to slow down lackey rogue
Oucha. I don't play rogue much and even I feel that one.
For people that have been hoarding copies of the card, how much dust will you get ?

I don't think classic cards should be nerfed because new cards make them more powerful. Nerf the new cards instead.

Ironic. It could recycle others, but not itself.
