I've been playing around with hunter and noticed that every time I got a Rat Trap from Shimmerfly, Marked Shot, or Secret Plan it pretty much single handedly shifted the balance and won me the game (admittedly only like 3 games). I mean playing 3 cards in a turn is guaranteed against lackey decks, rogues, zoo, warriors who use warpath; most of the popular decks right now function in a way that literally don't work only playing 2 cards per turn. Is the meta making this card sleeper amazing or am I missing something? Does anyone run it in their actual decks, and if so, how does it perform?
supposed to be good at countering rogue as they play so many cards. also there's a few secret decks right now with really good winrates, so I reckon they are, yes.
I know people that run a single copy in mid range beast hunter as well.
I've been running one copy in my Secret-heavy deck since Rat Trap was printed; I've always like the card. People just don't seem to care to play around it, right up until a 6/6 drops on the table unexpectedly and tilts the game. Even if it only eats up a removal, that's pretty good value for your 2-mana "set it and forget it" Secret.

Behold, foolish interlopers! I am commanding this mortal to spread the will of the Scourge throughout the interwebs, encouraging you to seek out me, Archlich Kel'Thuzad! Now coming to you as the tenth class of Hearthstone!
I am a finalist in this Class Creation Competition, so if you could give it a look I would be greatly appreciative <3
Just as you say, it's quite hard to play around even if you know it's there. A lot decks need those 3 cards to be played and the most beautiful thing is that in 90% of the times that third card is using your opponents last mana. So when that 6/6 minion pops up, there's nothing to do about it! =)
To be honest I have one copy of it in my spell hunter in wild and it does come in handy. It's a big change in board when your enemy thinks he's clearing it and then bang 6/6 rat pops up. My deck that uses it is named Spellunter
I tried Secret Hunter yesterday for the start of this season and Rat Trap wrecks rogues. It’s used as a “one of” but if you get it early rogues don’t know how to play around it . Rogue players just seem to be “me play cards me go face, SMOrc!”. There’s actually quite a few decks that want to play multiple cards in a turn in the meta at the moment but it’s rogue that rat trap really hurts.
The other good thing is the surprise factor, Rat Trap is perceived as weak so people don’t play around it because they don’t expect people to actually play the secret.
Secret Hunter in general has a huge surprise factor and worked well for me. It’s not a popular deck. People expect mid range or mech Hunter. According to HS replay yesterday despite Secret Hunter being only 1% of Hunter decks (so it didn’t get on the main tier list at all) was given top expected win rate (about 59%) for ranks 1-5 for EU. So I tried it out and climbed from 5 -3 in 2 hours. According to HS replay I had 85% win rate. I’m aware this is a small sample size. Rat Trap was very much MVP vs rogues.
only noobs trigger rat traps, but this game is full of them
As tempo deck you cant spend 3 turns to figure it out if it might be rat trap which isnt run in any popular lists right now. I take the loss against 1/20 decks rather then playing my turns suboptimal in the other 19 games.
It was never a "bad" card, same as Hidden Wisdom (which is used in Secret Mech Paladin currently). Playing around it can result in huge tempo loss and playing into it can lose you the game.
Probably not worth to include twice since it can take a while until it triggers, but it's a decent secret and certainly useful in current meta.
It’s good against rogues, because they can’t help themselves, but good players figure it out pretty quick if you play it early and it doesn’t trigger when they play a minion or attack.
The card has always been good to include one of in non beast/mech hunter decks. You either summon 2 mana 6/6 or completely disable your opponent from playing 3 cards a turn for 2 mana. The only reason you would almost never run two copies of it in your deck because it can be tough to play in some circumstances and a wasted 2 mana when you can always discover it from Secret Plan or get it from random card generating effects (see-Shimmerfly) if needed. Definitely finds a spot in secret hunter and possibly spell hunter.

Yes-ish.
It's pretty solid against Rogue and Warpath. Miracle priest too, I guess. Although that doesn't often come up. It's pretty shitty against much else. But when you consider that Rogue and Warrior are a combined something like 50% of the metagame, Rat Trap becomes pretty useful overall.
It definitely got a bit worse with the rogue nerfs as it was so easy for them to trigger it but it's still nice, it's either a 6/6 that most classes can't deal with or it caps your opponent by not making them be able to play more than 2 cards every turn.

Good in a rogue meta.
Personally I love Rat Trap!

Rat trap is not only the best secret but also the best card of the deck.
edwin's rogue + warpath's warrior meta = rat trap godlike

I think your statement is pretty noobish.

I was playing 1 copy in spell hunter since its release. I honestly have lost count of how many times it won me a game.
It’s good against rogues, because they can’t help themselves, but good players figure it out pretty quick if you play it early and it doesn’t trigger when they play a minion or attack.

This card has always been good.
A nice swing on the board and your opponent going "oh shit" now I have to deal with that.
Rat Trap was always a solid tech choice when it was announced and it still is now.
Only bad vs controls, x1 fits in a lot of decks like x1 weapon tech, don't will work 100% of the time but deserve the slot.
