I do think this is far better than people are giving it credit. You don't play this into an empty board normally, right?
Well maybe. If it's turn 3 and you play this on an empty board, your opponent will simply trade the 2/2 into yours and you lost nothing, but didnt gain anything either.
But if you don't have any empty board on your side. What if you have at least 1 minion going into turn 3? Then this card is very strong. Is it standard playable? I think it does have a place actually.
Hunter specifically likes the beast tag in the bird. And Warlock Zoo will also have no issues with trading into the opponent's 2/2 if it means gaining 5/6 worth of stats on turn 3. It also enables the warlock lackey generator card.
I think its at least a 3 star card. Much better than I would think giving your opponent a crappy 2/2 is no big deal.
What if this was a 5/6, give your opponent a 2/2 minion instead? Same situation as far as stats go. Would you play that card?
There are some cards that benefit from having minions to kill, like Darius Crowley, Finja, the Flying Star, and most of the overkill cards, and it does mess with resurrect effects, as mentioned above. This card has some niche uses, so I wouldn't call it pack filler. That said, I don't think it's going to see play anytime soon. Maybe it goes into a secondary/tertiary deck for anyfin paladin in the specialist format.
Lol, I didn't actually know that this card existed (maybe it got revealed in the last stream, with Kibler).
My first thought, seeing this card, was "why doesn't he give Flying to your minions?"
My second thought was "why doesn't this gryphon have flying?"
It would be so cool, right? Oh, well, one can dream...

People are evidently waiting on a card to be printed that costs 0 mana and reads: "If opponent is Priest, win."
If the above statement is true, then I guess I could see how those people are disappointed by this card...

Powerfull in odd related decks
The problem with this is that your opponent gets to attack with their 2/2 before you do.
Nice Remark! too bad baku got HOF'ed and this card has no chance in a wild deck.
Tech against Witching Hour; Witchwood Grizzly and Witching Hour are likely to be in most Druid decks moving forward.

And was your third thought, "Wait, "Flying" is a MtG keyword, not Hearthstone"?
