So I have been playing against a lot of people today that had put this in their decks and it NEVER worked out for them. It often made their situation worse, even.

Is this a trap card?
No, they just want to use this card even when it doesn't synergize with a single card in there deck.
seen a couple of maly priest with this, so good, also tried wall priest with it and i can admit this card is really solid with resurrect priest.

I must have been lucky in how the matches played out, I was playing control warrior against wall priest a couple of times today, and it felt like they were able to put on a lot less pressure than usual with vargoth.
Great for my wild quest mage OTK. Instead of the Antonidas combo and apprentices I think it runs more smoothly. For those who haven't seen the combo yet you hit the Archmage followed by Time Warp. You now have 2 extra turns. Your first turn you cast Molten Reflection on the Archmage twice. This results in 6 copies in play at the end of the turn. Last turn you play violet illusionist and research project. 14 cards are drawn and unless you somehow pulled off the combo super early that should be enough to drain your opponents deck and burn them completely with card draw. Unless they have a beefy taunt you can also attack with your 6 mages for 12 damage.
I like this combo because it's 2 creatures instead of 3 so there's less that can go wrong. It also kills the opponent on mirror matches because even if they iceblock the lethal damage they still have to draw on their turn and they die. The deck feels more stable than before.
I've been a having a lot of fun screwing around with the 60 Scroll Quest Mage deck with Vargoth. :)
This! Well, not with that deck exactly. I am playing a variety with more elementals (Shimmering Tempest, Bonfire Elemental, Steam Surger, Arcane Artificer and Lesser Ruby Spellstone among others) and it has been a lot of fun putting on midrange pressure throughout the game and then STILL comboing them out at the end. Not a fan of random so I just went with the mill plan.
This is quite broken in wild Barnes priest already. ( where you'll see Ragssssss throwing fireballs when it's priest vs priest) Should be a decent card in the coming standard ladder.
Heavy Metal can be played with it + i added marin until 9.th just to have some fun with the 3 mana discover a legendary summon 2 copies :D
tested if Vargoth can target spellproof minions with execute at the end of the turn ; he cant ): tested if Vargoth won't use brawl if he is the only minion on board ; he will still brawl himself instead of playing the other spell
Yeah, this card can be thrown into any deck and give value, but it doesnt fit into all decks and is a wasted card slot if your deck cannot support it in any reasonable way.
That said, this card is both fun and powerful. It can be used with meme decks or with actual tier 1 decks that have a high win percentage.
This card alone is going to shape the meta in one way or the other. This card is like Reno or the other singleton cards, where they were build around cards.
Not only is this a build around card, this is a build around card, that has no deck building restrictions.
Thankfully some decks, mostly aggro, will have no use for this card. Being able to cast 2 secrets is pointless because you can't. Being able to cast a 'free' buff spell is pointless because you can't take advantage of it and if you leave a minion up for your opponent, might buff them instead.
So this is mostly a mid-range, combo and control card. Much like Zilliax is a must have card in most decks, this is the new Zilliax.

Yes, but token Druid has Power of the Wild and Soul of the Forest that only buff friendlies. Throw in Swipe, and you have 6 cards that synergize with the archmage.

That is true and while I did think of those, do you really want to play a 4 drop that doesn't have an aggressive stat line?
I mean if you can get a deck list that makes this work, then this card is even more scary than I originally thought. Because yes, a double buff for your tokens is really stupidly powerful. And without some sort of mass silence AND removal, Token Druid is going to be a dangerous and powerful deck.
Keep in mind, Swipe is not the best argument because targets are random. But the other 2 cards might be good enough reason. Thanks for the insight. Is there a category above meta defining?

Yes, but Swipe only targets enemies. If you clear the board with the first one, the 2nd goes face. If you don't clear the board with the first one, you are at least guaranteed 1 damage to all enemies with the 2nd. Not bad.
Vargoth does not kill wild. It *does* make big priest notably stronger, though.
To be fair: big priest was tier 1 for a while, but over the last year it's been dropping and dropping. Vargoth will maybe bring it back from bottom/mid tier 2 into tier 1. The deck is still far from unbeatable, though.
(and no catrina is not half as influential as vargoth in big priest. not sure she is inclusion worthy yet)
And consider this: if blizzard wants, they can easily nerf it. ;)
If you play primarily on NA, but also on EU, then maybe you are interested in cross-server trading? Whenever I get the 80g quest on NA I would love to give it away and get it on EU in return. If you'd like a long-lasting trade routine, drop me a message here on hearthpwn!

Calling nerf on this card. Either mana cost up to 6, or health down to 4

Token loses Living Mana, right? That's a big hit.
Can we take this card away from priest yet? xD
They took my trophies....

Congrats, Blizzard. You finally did it.
