People used to pay 5 mana for 3 random spells, with this card it's really easy to generate them.. that being said mage spells gone worse since unguru and old gods..
Cabalist's Tome was mostly used for finishing the quest, iirc.
This card is much better for finishing up the quest.
You're looking at one of the most busted cards in a long time. Cabalist's Tome is turning in the grave. Every Mage will be running at least one of these for a late game value generator and it costs less than half the mana of Tome, plus probably double the spells and you get a 2/2 body. Pure cancer, no skill card that makes Hearthstone more of a joke. This will be even dumber shit in Arena.

This is a completely different card than Tome. I don't understand the comparison you're making. This is more Lyra than Tome.
As others have said, this card seems extremely strong. A 2 mana 2/2 with 'battlecry: add a random mage spell to your hand' would probably be playable. The bar for getting one spell off of this isn't all that high, and the ceiling on what it can do is insane. This is also the sort of card that makes an elemental package in mage look more interesting. Cosmic anomaly is already pretty good, celestial emissary definitely isn't bad in tempo mage, if we see another playable elemental or two you might be able to justify putting in blazing elemental and making elemental tempo mage.

Tome was used as a value generator in Mid to Late game. This Cyclone will be used in the exact same way. It's the exact same card, except Cyclone is 10X more busted. You can easily draw double the cards for half the mana cost and you get the body. You don't play this on turn 2. You play it on turn 10+.
this card is nuts in tempo mage and can carry the whole archetype by its own
100% meta defining imho
EDIT: plus its an elemental
not sure about that, most of the spells on the mage poll are reactive things that only targets minions, sure, you can use them to kill your opponent stuff and let you 2/2 and 3/2 go face, bat, unless you get only fireballs, pyros, frostballs, cinderstroms and arcane missiles that are the unique remaineng spells that does direct damage to the face ( please correct me if i'm missing one), a counterspell or a mirror entity, most of the time you will get board clears and polimorphs and that kind of defensive stuff.
I'm not saying this can't see play on tempo mage, maybe 1 copy, but is not likely as you think this being that good in the archtype, if blizzard keeps printig non face damage cards like is doing since the last year, it feels more like a value card for an slower deck.
Holy crap, that's some cheap refill. And there's not even a risk of filling your hand with Glacial Mysteries due to the rotation!
This could be frustrating in standard if tempo mage becomes a thing and your opponent pulls a bunch of burn damage from this. But it should be tons of fun in casual. If only Leyline Manipulator weren't rotating!

tome was a really powerful arena card too btw.
Wild burn mage will love it imo. I would even consider running the quest too since that elemental makes it kinda easy to get it done
Good for mages, probably even better for shamans who get it from Earthen Might

Very nice for shaman too to get from menacing nimbus or earthen might. With the rotation of Un’goro the pool of elementals is getting smaller so...

I agree. I didnt like tome, it was like, pay 5 mana do nothing that turn :/

Storm? We MTG now bois
This is Lyra except it costs two mana but only lasts for one turn.
It also can't cycle into itself like Lyra. A big part of her was her ability to miracle out. That can't happen with this card.
This card is still busted in Tempo Mage and can carry the archetype by itself, especially in combination with Stargazer Luna
A two cost that can get played early for tempo, but you can still get value from it late game. I dig it.
They "try" to push random spell and elemental shaman, yet they give this to mage...
So the new nuts/meme opener for mage is now coin, ray of frost x2, elemental evocation, this guy. Understood devs, anything is better then mw.
I love the art so much!
I hope they print more cheap spells.

Absolutely insane. I can see a 2 mana 2/2 drawing a tempo mage a whole freaking new hand past turn 7+. This thing puts divine favor to shame.
