Just what title says. What's your opinion on this card?
It was my first legendary, and used to enjoy it, but nowadays I'm feeling Hoggy is quite meh. I'm not sure, I think he has potential with some class cards, but as a warlock main I can't find an optimal way to use him (just drop and watch him getting destroyed next turn). I know you can force enemy to go like mad for him the moment you summon Hogger, and that's good at some point, but aren't there better options? The other legens in my main warlock deck are Thalnos, Jaraxxus, Sylvanas and Ragnaros, and I think that's enough orange-power for one deck (with Hogger they are 5). The thing is that the only one I see not working so well is Hogger, so... should I just drop him? I was thinking that I could craft Illidan and swap them, or maybe just put a Sunwalker in Hogger's place.
Can't link my whole deck right now, so I just wanted to know... you think Hogger is any good? Any substitute for a warlock deck? I'm running a heavy spell focused deck with not so many minions, just to get to summon Molten Giant and then Jaraxxus fresh mojito party.
Hogger can be a very great drop in many decks, if not for its ability, then for its passive taunt. If you can't control Hogger, you will fall behind. Killing him (or at least silence) is the only option. You can play around Sylvanas effect, and lots of other legendaries, but Hogger and Illidan need to be stopped once they enter play, to avoid getting overwhelmed by. So having Hogger getting removed isn't bad, it makes it just a bit harder to remove your giants.

Problem with him is that being 4/4 it's so easy to pewpew 2/2 Gnoll and Argent Commander -> Hogger. There are many 4 damage spells/stuff, so that's the point of swapping for Illidan, who has 5 HP, so he can survive to this attacks and at least do something next turn, plus he's a demon so as a warlock you can buff him (and I think he has the same "go for him like mad" feeling, just they need bigger stuff to kill him).
I understand Hogger can be really dangerous with some classes that can buff/protect him better, but as a warlock that's not really easy :/
Maybe I'm just not getting something, so some tips would be appreciated. But in my situation, don't you think there are better options?
I suppose it's not really smart to ask for opinions without posting my deck, so apologies about that (I'm not at home and don't want to copy a mistaken deck). That said, I gotta add that I'm a Hellfire lover so I don't like running blood imps, I go for a "keep clean board until mid-late game" strategy, with just a few cheap semi-hard to deal minions so they gotta spend some removal early, and then use the fat drops (probably not the best gameplay in current meta but it's what I enjoy and actually works quite well for me, if not I'd change my deck :3).
So, any other way to defend Mr. Hogger? I appreciate your opinions and tips, and don't wanna sound like a moron when I "refuse to go the way you propose", like with that Blood Imps idea, but as said, that particular strategy may not work for me cause I'd blow up my own imps with that Hellfires. If you think there's a better way to substitute Hellfire while adding Blood imps just tell me.
I'd like to read some opinions about Illidan too, do you think Hogger is just better? I was thinking in some typical (for me) scenarios where, for example, they got a Taz'dingo and I gotta summon a "naked" Hogger. With Hogger, they kill the 2/2 taunt with Taz'dingo and he survives (example works with many other minions), and then they go for an easy kill on Hogger. Now, with Illidan, they at least lose the Taz'dingo. I know this is just one scenario, but similar things happen to me many times and it feels a bit meh, so I wanted to know if you think that with Illidan you can get better trades in general, or not. The fact of being a demon means I can put a Demon Fire on him, too. About their passives, I'm not sure, I like Hogger's one, but Illidan can go steamrolling quite fast in many scenarios if he survives two or even just in one turn (use some cheap cards and/or Soul Fires, and vs not good at cleaning classes, that could be gg).
Yeah, didn't mean to tell you the only way to play a Warlock deck was with Blood Imps, was just an observation. :p
Disclaimer: I haven't played with Hogger or Illidan in Constructed.
My general view is that if you're looking to drop them directly on turn 6, Hogger has a more "immediate" effect on the board.
With Illidan, you won't be able to play any cards to spawn 2/1s until the turn after, and those 2/1s won't be able to attack until the turn after *that*, whereas with Hogger, you're getting a guaranteed 2/2 Taunt to protect your board position every turn.
I know it's not *quite* the same, but a 4/4 + 2/2 is actually more combined health than Illidan (5), and can do more to protect the rest of your board than Illidan can. Both are useful in certain situations.
You mentioned the Shieldmasta + Argent Commander vs Hogger. To give you another possible scenario, say the board is clear, and on turn 5 they drop a Venture Co. Mercenary. Turn 6, if you drop Illidan Stormrage, he can trade straight up, or swing at anything on your board (even your face). If you drop Hogger, he will not be able to get through until he drops another minion (or uses removal other than Venture Co), and you can trade straight up on your turn (or use any other viable solution to remove it).
Hogger's somewhat lackluster in a normal scenario, he's one of those "win more" cards. At 6 mana for 6/6, he's down the line average and only has good returns when you keep him alive for a second turn. 4 health is simply not good to be at, especially late game. I personally think Hogger isn't fit for the current meta.
The threat for anything not removed is the card hitting your face to kill you, but Hogger can be removed with all the common tools you find. Sylvanas needs specific counter play and can create a scenario where she is the perfect card to engineer a comeback. My contempt for Hogger is because he's just a card to get you ahead. Do you have the tools to gain an advantage in the first place? Do you have a decent amount of early threats to ensure Hogger has some back-up entering the field? Considering you said it was spell heavy with few minions, I'm assuming no. If you answer no to these, you might as well play Silver Hand Knight and save some mana.
As for choosing between Sylv and Hogger someone else brought up in this thread, Sylv hands down. I didn't see a decklist anywhere to look into it, but it's my first impression.
Another thought on Hogger: Like it's said above, Hogger's a card that needs immediate attention to take care of. I don't know about your deck, but a good utility of Hogger is he takes a card/minion away from your opponent that would have been used for a more critical card in your deck. If your opponent chooses to let Hogger run loose, great, new taunter every turn. If not, that's one less counter he has for your critical cards.
That's the deck I'm running (hope I linked it properly), quite custom and probably non-meta but that is :P
Sylvanas was already in it, as said, the biggest doubt was Hogger vs Illidan (Illidan OR any other suggestion of any cost that you guys thought could be good replacing Hogger). I know you couldn't say too much without showing my deck, so there it is. I'm open to any "moderate" proposal, the idea is to keep the way it is more or less, and the first contender to drop the deck was Hogger cause I'm not really happy with him, so wanted to read some suggestions both to substitute him or something to make him work better :3
As someone who played over 700 games in constructed and a warlock main, I would have to say that Hogger is seriously strong certain situation.
Like other people have said, if not taken care of immediately, it's gonna cause your opponent crap tons of trouble. Even if he did get rid of your Hogger after it was played, it still means that you get a 6/6 with taunt for a 6 cost which is not that bad. IF he didn't, it will goes up to 8/8 on turn 2 which is some crazy value right there.
To really make use of Hogger, you need to make sure that the opponent had used quite a lot of his removal / silence and have another taunter around or enemy board wiped.
I personally also like Cairne on my warlock deck, pretty good value with shadow flame or hell fire in case you'll need to sac your minion(s).
also bear in mind that Priest is FotM and Hogger's magic 4 attack makes it somewhat hard to deal with... and if a priest uses a MC on Hogger.... meh, could be worse
I'll probably give Hogger another chance, tried to swap for a Sunwalker but is more or less the same, some scenarios can be better, others worse. Do you think better keep Hogger or try to get Cairne for that spot?
And about Voidwalkers, yeh, I'm not a big fan of them, but sometimes they save my ass. I'd really like to include Blood Imps, but I think I can't because of the suicidal nature of my deck, so what other cost 1 minions do you suggest? I think I'd keep at least 1 Voidwalker, it's nice to have one for a turn 10 -> Jaraxxus + Voidwalker, quite safe. Oh, and I dropped ONE Soulfire for a Lepper Gnome (I hate discarding mechanics, and that gnome is a real pain in the ass imo, plus so easy to summon in any turn :3).
About Drain Life I'm not sure, I like that spell, and would keep at least one for sure (actually probably both, what do you think can fit better than it? :O)
From your decklist, I can see that you're going for control late game concentric Warlock deck.
Void walker doesn't do much without demon fire in hand. I suggest you go for Flame imps for early game threat and some board presence.
Lepper Gnonme is a bad choice imo, it's mostly use in rush / aggro decks to try and push pressure on to the opponent by spamming effective low cost minions. In your deck, it's likely gonna die without doing much.
Sure you can argue that you have some early game power to create board presence, but in a non-perfect world, it's highly likely that you won't be drawing most of em in every early game as there's like 7 cost 1-4?
Soulfire is a great card if you can take the risk, it kills you sometimes by discarding Jaxxarus or something crucial. It can be use as a finisher or gain early game board presence as you can drop down one of your minion and kill one of the opponent with 0 mana removal.
I personally like Drain life, most people love Demon fire and argue that it's the superior choice though. As in most of the time, you'll likely to be using Demon fire to deal 2 dmg, I personally use Bloodmage / Geomancer with Mortar coil.
Lastly between Hogger and Carine, would say that it really depends on the situation really.

Thanks a lot, and sorry for my English :3
Hogger is awesome, I can't wait to get him. If you ever get into late game with you and you opponent topdecking, dropping hogger is devastating.
I'd remove sylvanas instead if you really want to remove a legendary.

As a Warlock, I'd think Blood Imp has pretty great synergy with Hogger AND protects against the Argent Commander rush you mentioned...
Would make all his taunts slightly bigger, feels relatively strong to me.

As well, Illidan Stormrage is much more susceptible to removal - in particular, Shadow Word: Death and Big Game Hunter, which Hogger doesn't have to worry about.
Of course, Flamestrike isn't exactly Hogger's friend either. :p

He's a bit lackluster for 6 cost. I don't like Illidan either, no immediate value.
I'm asuming you have your Azure Drakes so I would go for Sunwalker.
