"Druids have always had excellent flexibility and a number of different tools when it comes to generating mana, cards, and minions, but have long struggled to remove their opponent’s large minions. Naturalize effectively nullifies that weakness, giving Druids a powerful option in matchups where card advantage doesn’t matter. Moving it into the Hall of Fame enforces the Druid’s weakness in removing large minions, maintaining its class identity."
This is one of those cards that, initially, looked like garbage. As the game grew and we/Blizzard realized how certain matchups played out, Naturalize was clearly way too good. Simultaneously being incredibly efficient removal while milling your opponent in control mirrors.

Finally they address this "class identity" topic, Druid got a lot of it's intended class weaknesses negatedin KOFT and they didn't nerf it at all, sadly they didn't think about it back then.. hope in the future they don't print any more cards that straight up negate a class weaknesses.
intended weaknesses:
Druid- lack of hard removal.
Warlock- lack of a lot of sources health gain, weaker than average class cards. - this one seems to be negated a lot.
Hunter- lack of card draw
Mage-Not having a lot of ways to generate big boards.
Paladin- Not having direct ways to deal with threats (via damage to them) early ( I mean in the form of cheap damage spells.
Warrior-Controlling the board is mostly weapon based.
Shaman- RNG in most cards.
Rogue- Lack of mass removal (medium boards) and healling
Priest- 4 attack minions.
Of course those weaknesses have been negated endless times but I think Blizzard should stick to them I think the only none defined class in this aspect is shaman, it seems like every good shaman card contains high amounts of variance, trying to always fish for the "best average value" seems to be a theme of the class identity. KOFT and kobolds have been the sets that violated those intended weaknesses a lot.
The most ridiculous HoF candidate since . . . well, Flametongue Totem.
Togwaggle is rotating out, and Mecha'thun is only a thing when the meta gets so ridiculously slow that drawing your entire deck is a reasonable option in a winning number of games.

Funny thing is that Cydonia just said on yesterday’s value town that Naturalize "was" a bad card because we had so much aggro back in the old days . But now it’s not really class identity and way too good, and he’d like to see it gone ...
To be fair , he played Warlock in a showmatch versus Nicholena and got his DK Guhldan milled twice ( they tried to play the new specialist format) . But still a great call by Prophet Cydonia!!
This does not make me optimistic. Naturalize deserved HOF or nerf, but not at all for the reasons Blizzard stated. Class identity? BS. Naturalize is and always has been bad removal because the draw for your opponent is huge. It was occasionally used in meme mill decks, but otherwise, the card is almost never included in decks solely for enemy minion removal. It was perfect for class identity because it was removal at a very high cost.
Instead, Naturalize is a problem because it is enables crazy non-interactive combos by killing friendly minions, where the penalty of giving your opponent cards does not matter (e.g., Mecha'thun, Hadronox, etc.) That's why it should be in the HOF. Though in my opinion, it should have been nerfed instead to target only enemy minions. That would have preserved the original purpose of the card while disabling the dumb combos.

Dude, completely agree. Not with the HoF, as I think Naturalize is fine, but the Blizzard reason is COMPLETE BS!
This card is in the Standard set HELLLOOO!!! It has always been a part of the Druid class?!?! They are slowly nerfing/HoFing every Standard card away, when in reality some other Expansion card interactions are what is making the card a problem.

I like this! :D

Again, I agree with you. Damn... :P
Not needed.
This was done mostly because of Mecha'thun. That's another druid archetype that's now dead.
Back to Big Game Hunter for druid I guess.
Probably a good change. I like Naturalize, but it's probly a pretty limiting card if it hangs around forever.

Horrible
1 mana -> kill anything was opening too many unhealthy combos, especially with friendly deathrattles.
Piloted Shredder, Knife Juggler, Mad Scientist, Dr. Boom
Need to be removed from this game
Also, as the opponent it always felt really bad to have to play around this card if you hadn't drawn a key card yet.

Replacement for this card in Classic set:
Choose one - add a random minion; or spell to your hand.
You heard me.
I like elementals and totems.
Definitely a possibility :)
I think given how hard Druid has been spanked of late I'd vote for a spell along the lines of "get both choose one effects this turn"
