Since there are no original ideas left in the universe, I will not say I have a new idea. Rather, I will say, do you think this is a viable way to alter Genn Greymane and Baku the Mooneater?
Include on their text, "Draw this minion on turn #. It must be played that turn. Battlecry: Gain your hero's original hero power."
# equals the mana cost of the card.
This change would make the enhanced hero power temporary to give an early-game advantage that wears off in the mid-game.
This could be combined with a change of Genn's and Baku's stats and cost. For example, Baku could be changed to a 7 mana 5/6 card so that the hero power is guaranteed to change back on turn 7.
I am not sure of the balancing of Genn's and Baku's mana cost or stats--I will leave that for folks smarter than I. The idea seems sound to me, though.
I know Blizzard does not like wordy, complex cards, but this change allows the even and odd decks to exist without being a nuisance for the remainder of Hearthstone's existence.
*Made a minor edit to the post to clarify that the battlecry only applies to changing the hero power.
No. That would devastate the cards making unplayable. Sure there are several decks that are pretty strong with these cards but they all have counters and nerfing the cards into oblivion isn't the answer.
Nothing changes if you draw Genn or Baku before the specified turn. You draw as normal on that turn, and you still must play Genn or Baku to trigger the Battlecry.
The real nerf is: “Start of the game: Upgrade your hero power, draw this card”. So, you are starting with one less card. Could be pretty annoying for aggro-decks, as it weakens without 1-drop and this neft is reducing the chance of getting the first drop in starting hand.
Well in case of OddPaladin,it would destroy the deck. The early game is what matters the most, for this kind of archetype at least.
To design a card that draws itself, and has to be played on that turn seems weird aswell (it’s kinda pointless, to take away every option that turn).
But maybe they do something like this. Mike Donais even asked Kibler on stream what he would do:
Making their effect a battlecry, ( that would totally destroy the decks) or pre- Hall of Fame them. .... Kibler wasn’t a fan of both options....
The worst thing for Blizzard is, someone will eventually have to bite in the sour Apple...
Wild, and standard f2p guys, if they pre HoF them ....If they get nerfed, again f2p guys,(for the other cards they crafted ofc) people who actually liked the decks , wich are now impossible to play.... And if they do nothing ( wich is unlikely, since Iksar already said they wanted to solve the problem by the point the next expansion hits) , well the majority of the standard community I would assume.
The easiest way to nerf both Genn and Baku would require the respective player to start with those minions regardless of the mulligan phase. Now you have the upgraded hero power but in exchange for that you are forced to hold a dead card for X turns which, unlike the Quests from UNG you can't even shuffle into your deck.
Why can't any of these threads create non-'pendulum nerf/nerf hammer' ideas? Too many players that don't know how to appropriately and gradually nerf a card. You either have busted cards or dead cards.

Because they learned from the best: Bli$$ard!!! ;)
Stupid ideas. Let Baku and Genn alone. They are balanced. For the advantage you have to restrict your deck thats a huge disadvantage already.
It doesn't sound that restrictive when you see how successful are odd/even decks (above 50% win rate). Don't make it sound like a pain, because it is not. For the first time in my life I reached rank 2, guess with what kind of deck.

Just making them start the game in your hand hurts them plenty basically nullifying one card draw.

My first created Hearthstone cards:
Forcing those cards to start in hand is the best soft nerf.
I will crush you!
