This isn't a salt thread nor am I calling for nerfs, but I really haven't seen much talk on this card so I'd thought I'd get some opinions here. Do you guys think Scavenging Hyena is a problem in the current meta and maybe for future metas?
While I definitely think it's strong, and can be a bit annoying with how quickly it snowballs some games, I don't think it's too much of an issue. And I would guess that this is about as bad as it will get with Springpaw and Crackling Razormaw both in standard at the same time.

Well regarding Springpaw and Crackling Razormaw, for me, it's not as bad as other things in the game so I think it should be okay, at least for now
When you think a card is problematic for a current meta, you should see the class and the deck as a whole in order to determine if a card is strong. For me, scavenging hyena is fine because you can play around its effect and easily control what it does when it enters the game. Does it have strong synergies? Absolutely. Is it a problem? No. I hope that helps, but I also am looking forward for people to analyze cards in a global context, not in the one occasion you didn't play around it and got destroyed.
It's a problem in the same way Mana Wyrm was. Not really a problem, can be played around but will probably get nerfed out of the blue. I don't think Team 5 like these low cost snowball cards. Springpaw is the issue, you can reliably buff a hyena so consistantly that a lot of hunters coin the hyena.

You couldn't really play around Mana Wyrm though. Your opponent just played a bunch of spells and then hit you in the face with a giant wyrm when you have no tool to remove it. Hyena only gets bigger when your opponent can kill of their own minions. By not playing minions on your own you can make for example Unleash the Hounds bad or impossible and thus reduce the damage you take. I would say that's different :)

Exactly, you don't play minions then the hyena becomes the perfect crackling razermaw target. It still snowballs like mana wyrm did. In fact I would say it's worse than mana wyrm as the health gets buffed too.
To be fair, this is the first time Scavenging Hyena has ever really seen significant play. HSReplays is tracking the card with a -3% "win-rate when played," which isn't exactly concerning. The card is a vanilla 2/2, and really needs to combo with Springpaw in order to be particularly useful - the fact that it combos with other Beasts and Unleash hasn't been reason enough for the card to have seen any play until the arrival of the 1/1 Rush cats.
I don't like the card, either you can kill it and it is fine. a regular 2/2 or perhaps 4/3 which already is great for 2 mana with taunt basically.
Or it snowballs so hard out of control that it decides the game by turn 5. I would like the healthbuff to be removed. It would still snowball out of control with damage but it would be more managable to kill.

Are you sure? I remember people using alley cat and other cards to buff hyenas. As far as I can tell midrange hunter has always been an option, and older builds have used the card. I remember running hyenas ages ago.
Yes. Early minions that "must be dealt with" before they spiral out of control always will be a problem. HCT is okay because it's a neutral card that will rotate at some point and is a 3-drop. As Mana Wyrm was nerfed, I expect Hyena and Frothing to be hit at some point too.

Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination.
I think T5 forgot about Hyena when they made the springpaws (and maybe also rhino) but I don't think it's a big problem. You can account for it when you mulligan. Up against a hunter? You're probably gonna want to clear what they play on 2 no matter what it is.
Eta: and as mainly shaman player I rather see the hyena on 2 than the 4/4 taunt on 3!
I'm not really keen on nerfing it yet, because it's going to be the only thing pulling Midrange Hunter together once Rexxar rotates out. Okay, there's Dire Frenzy and Master's Call, but the Hyena is part of why that package works out so well.
I vote to wait and see on this one. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see that Midrange Hunter is just garbage now without Rexxar to carry the deck.

Or you could always run a deck that is actually tier 1, just sayin'

How do you play around Hyena?

Priests are running around abusing Divine Spirit and Inner Fire to get 30-100 attack OTKs and you’re worried about the fkn hyena...?
Hyena is very threatening because of Springpaw and Master's Call.
Without those cards, hyena is too inconsistent.
So, it is problematic in current Standard, but i am not sure it deserves a nerf.
Powerful in Wild as well, but efficient countermoves there are more numerous, so it feels less problematic.
I don't like the hyena, but I hate the rhino more, that card is bs.

Any silence will do. Just beware of a combo with Tundra, that can cause a problem, a big problem

No.
Not a problem.
If it was 2/3 it might be and if it was 2/4 it will for sure.
