I cut my teeth with mage and vowed to never play it outside of quests a couple of exPacks ago. This card makes me want to play a Mage deck again. Really stoked aboot this set.
The factvthat it's a different trigger to mage secrets buffs all other mage secrets! tge secret is nice to add variety to the secret pool in tempo mage(.. the deck could still function.. just lost it's autowin condition)
I disagree... I definitely think this will see play...
TL:DR This card is cool but too inconsistent and all in all you probably have 30 other cards which are better for your mage archetype. The main problem is that you can't play it the same turn as your lich king. It's a good spell to discover though.
That isn't much of a problem really. You can play it the same turn you freeze the board or stall however. I disagree, this card is not inconsistent. It can be if you play it willy nilly, though that is obviously what you shouldn't be doing with it. Lastly, doesn't belong in a current deck, could very well belong in future deck. Don't judge cards based on what decks they fit in now.

I'm not just judging by the current decks. Historically the Control Mage archetype haven't been using this type of secret and if only just a small amount. Fact is also in an aggro deck you have much better secrets than this one, you can't deny that. This secret is far easier to play around as it isn't as disruptive as Mirror Entity and Counterspell. I'm not denying that this card wont see play in a future archetype after the rotation, but I currently I don't find it likely. The card clearly has potential but so does a lot of unplayed cards. The question you need to ask is: Why do this when I can do something better? And currently you have many much more powerful cards than this one because ultimately the goal if the game is not to build up and preserve a big board, but killing your opponent before he kills you. The big board is certainly one way to get there, but Mages just tend to have better winconditions.
Edit: I think the best and most consistent use this card is going to have is Kirin Tor Mage then play this on turn 3. That might be pretty decent though.
Obviously it's f*cking insane in arena, which is nice.
Obviously insanely good card for Secret Mage, especially in Wild. Might even replace Mirror Entity that usually gave a 2/1 at best and a Doomsayer at worst.
I think any deck that wants to play secrets will play this card at least 1 of.
Needs careful planning to get decent value out of this card, but in the right deck it could be crazy value. Not sure that deck exists right now, but will be interesting to see people try to make it work.
Will also be very fun to see people totally forget to play around this for the first couple of weeks after the expansion lands!
This is a solid secret that is way better than Effigy since you know what you´ll get out of it so you can build/play with it instead of just praying to the RNG gods you get that one rare minion with the same mana cost that is actually better than what you had, instead of the gazillion minions that are way worse.
Remember Allie´s reveal of that epic turtle guy yesterday? I doubt Mage wants that card in any deck, but that+this = whatever important minion you want to protect is pretty safe, and depending on position you could even up with both copies alive when your turn comes again.
Interesting secret. Thinking that super collider might counter it especially if a solo minion on board - will be interesting to see how it interacts with this weapon
This is like Avenge, except it's more flexible and doesn't rely on other minion to be alive, for 2 more mana that exactly copied your minion... Looks fine to me, not the best card it seems, I may could be wrong.
This card will be very influential as, assuming that it sees play somewhere, EVERY mage sectret which we see could potentially be Splitting Image.
This means that, unless your opponent offers you a weak minion as an alternative to test on, you'll be loathe to attack in to their more powerful minions.
In theory, Effigy would've had the same impact but that card :
Only triggered on death, rather than just an attack.
Summoned a random minion (same mana cost) rather than the same minion.
(Effigy had the one advantage that damage sources other than attacks could trigger it)
As is always the case, the presence of this secret in the card pool has the effect of improving EVERY secret as the opponent has to consider the possible effects of their attacks whenever a mage secret is in play.
I think this is a fine mage secret...but why are you playing mage secrets for value? I haven't seen anything (yet) that makes me think a non-aggro secret mage is a thing.
I don't think that new epic secret guy makes me want to do this kind of thing either...especially since playing it in Mage is playing off curve.
This is pretty, pretty, good. It's probably the third best Secret to run after Counterspell and Explosive Runes.

I enjoy.

How would this spell work with mogosh announcer and snapjaw shellfighter?

Holy Shit! A Mage secret that doesn’t say “When your opponent plays a minion!”

I like elementals and totems.
I like it fits a not as aggro minion based mage deck.
Hunters will Auto include Flare in to they're decks.

I vote Very Good.

This may see play in a standard secret mage list in place of a Counterspell, but that would require a board-centric meta.
This space is intentionally blank.
Very good card. I think it will definitely see some play.
