I don't know why people are so hyped about odd mage, it's not the first time when that archetype receives supports and sees 0 play. I can already see this legendary in big spell mage. Surviving and pinging as big spell mage was never a problem so fulfilling the condition is not that hard, also you get to play the spirit too. If you get to play Jaina DK and next turn drop this minion you will heal for 8 and have 12/12 worth of stats + 3 mana left to spare which is insane.
4/4 and ragnaros on t7 is pretty damn insane and totally do-able in odd mage. The new dork who adds +2 hero power damage is great for ramping into this
The mage legendary is good in a control deck, but control mage has a better option in Dragoncaller Alanna for the late game. Will be stronger after rotation. I don't think the "hero power" archetype will be good enough this expansion. Also, the spirit is not that good: if you go all in with the hero powers it is just too slow and your board presence is terrible (and you HAVE to draw the legendary as soon as possible), and basically a 4 mana deal 1 damage to three adjacent minions on turn 4 is mostly garbage. We'll see

I think b/c Odd Mage is new and fun? But yeh - obviously fits in BSM since basically all you do with that deck in the late game is ping.

Because Odd Mage is already on the fringes of being playable. Because Odd Mage is very good at controlling the early game (and Zoo/Odd Paladin are both top tier decks which Odd Mage is theoretically good against). Because Odd Mage is something new to be explored. Because maybe people are tired of asking, "Yeah but how does this make my existing decks better?"

I am not sure I like how hard Team 5 are pushing this Odd mage nonsense. Baku and Genn are nice cards even if not every class is getting to play with them. They should not try so hard to push them in classes that doesn't need them in my opinion. They could have made some more cards for elemental mage or a minion based mage with Arugal and book of spectres for example.

It may be easier than you think. If you’re playing this card you’re probably playing odd Mage, and if you’re playing odd Mage, then you’re playing daring fire eater. That alone would be 4 damage, and with a couple more pings you could meet the requirement by turn 4 or 5. You could even play pixie for more reliable pings. It seems really good imo.
Since it reads "this game" I would assume it triggers even if it's in the Deck.... Can anyone confirm that? Because if that's the case this card will certainly be a day one craft for me.... Well,it'll probably be even if it doesn't,I love the art and the animation...

People need to calm a bit down. The payoff is not crazy large and there was no spiteful mage before.
