So anyone remember Twin Emperor Vek'lor, a decently played taunt minion in C'thun decks where if C'thun has 10 or more attack he'll summon his twin for two 7 mana 4/6s. or we could juts play Saronite Chaingang at 4 mana for two 2/3's and have half the stats, for nearly half the mana, and you don't need the C'thun gimmick. Plus if you get a buff on Saronite while it's in your hand the second minion also gets the buff where with Twin Emperor Vek'lor his brother gets nothing (Kinda selfish Vek'lor, didn't mommy ever tell you to share?) Heck Saronite isn't even a legendary so you can put two in the deck instead of 1, and have greater consistency.

Here's the difference though, Chillmaw can still protect you if you don't have a dragon, and Duskbreaker is a lot more of a proactive board clear. Vek'lor and Saronite accomplish the same task at different power levels.
OP has no real understanding of the game - it’s more than doing Elementary school mathematics on stats. So many examples come to mind. Priests have difficulty with four attack minions. Warlocks can Hellfire the SCG’s and hit face with their Giants and Drakes.
Saronite is a better card than Vek'lor; not to fill the same role, but Saronite is just much more flexible, performing reasonably well in almost any kind of deck. The lower cost just opens up more ways to use it both defensively and offensively, where Vek'lor is only good on defense in a very specific deck. I think the bigger surprise is how universally useful two 2/3 taunts are. The effect is as old as Feral Spirit, which was also a good card in the past, but plain good stats have otherwise grown out of fashion and tend to get overlooked.
Of course, the handbuff ability, the Shudderwock synergy and the existence of Fungalmancer also make the card more valuable.
Not sure what the point of comparing the two is. They come from two expansions that were 15 months apart. Back in 2016 Cthun was a decent win condition and need cards like Vek'lor to stall to get that win condition.
Now adays there are easier and more consistant win conditions. You just need a death knight hero or mechathun or could always play aggro, quest rogue or deathrattle hunter.
At the time, Twin Emperor Vek'lor was a very good card when playing a C'Thun deck. These days I don't think C'Thun sees a ton of play in Wild as it's power level is significantly lower than some other decks in the format. You're not wrong to say Saronite Chain Gang is more flexible. By the simple fact that you can have two it is more flexible, and the fact that it doesn't rely on C'Thun stats also immediately makes it more flexible.
So yes, it's similar to Twin Emperor. This doesn't really seem like some great revelation though. And other cards have used copy effects. Remember Echoing Ooze or Doppelgangster? Ultimately Saronite's flavor for Knights of the Frozen Throne is that they were enslaved Draenei, forced to mine the Saronite of Northrend. A chain gang implies multiple people on the chain, so they used the copy effect again. And with recent discussion of Giggling Inventor we know Team 5 loves strong neutral taunt minions. Ultimately they probably did take inspiration from Twin Emperor, but used the copy effect instead as it's one less token card to make, and the Mean Streets hand buffing effects from Grimy Goons were in Standard still, and have synergy with a card that copies. They may have used Vek'lor again to help determine proper cost/stats that they wanted for this card.
If raw stats were the only thing that matters you would be right, but there's more to the game than raw stats. 7 mana for two 4/6 taunts is quite a bit stronger than 4 mana for two 2/3 taunts in most situations, at least from my experience. You do have a point about buffs though, if you run a lot of buffs then chain gang may be stronger.
No, they don't have that much in common except summoning 2 taunts with the same stats.
Twin emperor is better for the cost, but needs a build-around.
Saronites strongest synergy is hand/deck buffs.
They hit the board at so different times, I don't think they should be compared. A bit like Argent Commander and Argent Horserider. Sure, one is half the other, but they are played very differently. Also, the costs are so different Argent Commander has been powercreeped out of constructed years ago while Argent Horserider still sees play in agressive decks in Wild.
Thank you for the assist: I was going to list more than just Chillmaw, but my illness took a turn for the worst right then so I posted what I had and fled to the bathroom DX
Princess Huhuran is a super blatant example, and it was only two expansions later! I feel bad for anyone who might have been hyped for her originally; I was in the middle of my Hearthstone hiatus so I wouldn't know how Whispers was received initially *shrugs*

Anyone wanna try to say this isn't true?
7 mana 8/12 worth of Taunts is more powerful than 4 mana 4/6 worth of taunts.
It's not the only example of a future card borrowing an old Legendary effect for theoretically better/easier results:
Chillmaw -> Duskbreaker

Yes it's true. So what?
Anger is the punishment we give ourselves for someone else's mistake.
I had to think of Princess Huhuran -> Terrorscale Stalker

I guess I missed the point. Is that because there isn't one?
Free to try and find a game, dealing cards for sorrow, cards for pain.

Not sure if hyped yet.

if you are running a cthun deck anyway, why not throw it in there since the odds are extremely high that the twin emperor ability would trigger

C'thun was not a gimmic..
I like this guy's completely unnecessary and random aggressive tone. Who is he yelling at?
Lay off the red bulls, they'll stunt your growth.
I really liked twin emperor vek'lor. One of my favourite legendaries from that set.
The brann synergy also got you an extra 4/6 which really helped the card.
That's Incredible!
