They nerfed the right card imo. Seeing how Druid still has UI, which is rotating next year, I can see why they didn't touch Psychmelon yet for the sake of seeing how it will fare in standard next year.
Lol people actually blaming Melon for this nerf. Melon is not a problem card, Aviana/Kun combo is, so one of them had to get that nerf bat. Melon not even played in standard, its not even that strong card by itself. If they leave Aviana/Kun as it is, there will always will be some extremely broken shit druid can do.
This change nerfed the right deck...but I just don't know if it's enough. Is it really that big of a deal having to run Innervate and Juicy Psychmelon being a bit less consistent? Seems like this will only turn this godly deck into a great one. That deck can't really be teched against ( Star Alligner Druid is built so that it's pretty resistant to Dirty Rat / Demonic Project ) so I would rather have it be kinda niche.
I can only hope I am underestimating the nerf and it turns out bigger than expected.
Say what you want, but Juicy Psychmelon is the problematic card that should have been nerfed.
- cheap for what it does; - draws a lot of cards; - tutor (could still be used in a future standard togwaggle deck)
Mmm, I am not going to deny that Aviana and Kun the Forgotten King were used in almost every combo druid deck since the release of MSoG, but imho they didn't make the combo decks broken. They just enabled them. The reason why the druids decks became so strong was their ability to ramp, to draw cheaply and to stall until they assemble the pieces. All of this got supported with every expansion.
Because think about it - before the juicy cards were implemented (like UI, SP or melon) druids had a hard time clearing the board and staying alive. Aviana and Kun were actually dead cards in most of the cases (especially against aggro) and there were other ones as well depending on the combo you were playing (C'thun, Ragnaros etc). I just think that the Boomsday spell is the obviously bad designed card, which should have been changed.
If druids didn't have that many ways to draw, assembling the pieces would have been more challenging. But alas, this would have meant changing the cards from various sets, which wouldn't have been that practical. The nerfs are planned and we have to wait for the new patch. At least I will be able to enjoy wild at long last.
Aviana + Kun interaction needed to be dealt with. I would rather completely change how Aviana works so you can't play a ton of huge cards (I'm fairly certain the original intent of the card was to try to keep it up for a turn by playing it with another big card and then get huge tempo) but Blizz decided to not be nearly as heavy-handed with it as they should've IMO. Far too many obscene things that can be done with it. When the entire meta revolves around one deck, then you know it's an issue. Star Aligner druid can still be a thing but it will have a much harder time pulling off T6/7 wins (which is sheer stupidity as a combo/control deck).

Juicy Psychmelon doesn't draw both Kun and Aviana at the same time now. That decimates the combo decks' consistency.
(Someone else had to point this out to me, because I didn't see it).
In addition, the decks lose two slots previously devoted to survival/ramping/drawing because of the requirement of adding two Innervates.
With Aligner Druid, often 10 mana and one played Psychmelon wasn't sufficient to win the game: you often had to continue to draw to get one or more of a second Star Aligner, Brann, Floop, or Brewmaster, all while staying alive. The complexity of winning the game with the combo has increased by 3 times, I'd say.
Blizzard, you need to give me back all the dust spent around Aviana combos, since you just killed them all.
If you're that into Aviana combos, you won't mind running Innervate to make them work. Juicy won't pull all your combo pieces but you can still run Ultimate Infestation x2, Nourish x2, Branching Paths x2 for those purposes. The decks are fine, but they're no longer easy insta-wins that you can pull on T4. People have been running the jankiest combos for a long time and throwing in an Innervate (or Emperor tick...) isn't any tougher than some of the other setups people play around with. Anyone who crafts auxiliary cards for a T1 deck just for wins instead of actually enjoying using those cards deserves the dust loss.
Aviana was a fun card. The combo with Kun made this problematic. Kun should have been nerfed instead. I think he should have a card text saying this minion always costs 10 mana. Simple
can't say I'm not glad, but I still think Psychmelon should have been nerfed

This guy gets it.
Nerfing melon wouldnt change anything because class ramping hard.
Perfect nerf. Not even dead unlike somr other cards.

Had to be done. Through future expansion there would have been so much card draw and survivability that that melon wouldnt even matter anymore
Why u hav to be mad? is only card gaem.
I'm really glad I didn't craft Kun now.

No don't nerf juisy psychmelon, just nerf a good old card.....!
Aviana 100% deserved this. One scary part is that without any combo decks to counter, Big Priest might be getting buffed here.
FTFY

I'd rather see Kun cost 11 Mana.
Sorry, but that’s dumb.
if you start with Coin its a gg, otherwise you run Innervate
