According to HSReplay, Giggling Inventor is in approximately 1/3 of all decks and has over a 50% win rate. Based on the numbers, this is reaching pre-nerf Corridor Creeper territory.
Unlike Creeper, Giggling Inventor is not an outwardly aggressive minion. It isn't the same type of tempo swing. And it's not going to dome you for 5.
But, depending on how you factor in divine shield, it has more stats than a vanilla 5-drop. It is directly comparable to a neutral pre-nerf spreading plague. It has mech synergy, which is not insignificant. And it is breaking decks like quest rogue. (Again! Go home, Quest Rogue! You're drunk!)
I believe that this will be the first card of Boomsday to be nerfed. Although the situation is not as dire as Corridor Creeper, the play/win-rate is closing in on outlandish.
What do you all think? Am I way off target?
EDIT: Looks like I might not be alone in thinking this....
our refinement analysis shows that Giggling Inventor is an optimal card in basically every archetype, should its deck building restrictions allow it. It is the most powerful neutral minion we have seen since Corridor Creeper, and it’s arguably more powerful since its inclusion improves both aggressive and defensive decks. Archetypes such as Malygos Druid and Deathrattle Hunter spiked in their win rates just because people started playing Giggling Inventor lists. Internally, we joked around that the process of deck refinement in Boomsday can be measured by the rise of Giggling Inventors because the correlation was staggering. This card is the #1 nerf candidate for the next balance patch. Do not dust your extra copies.
Well considering giggling inventor is about the only card being played from boomsday right now I'd say it's pretty strong, so far it's currently all the same decks being played still that were around before the expansion just with that 1 new card being put in them, boomsday has literally changed nothing so far, I mean because of this card quest rogue once AGAIN has come back to being a top tier deck. lol
Here's StrifeCro's latest tweet, basically saying exactly the same thing.
It is good in both aggro and against aggro. It's a do it all card. Blizzard say they don't like cards that are basically auto-include.
It is incredibly good and annoying but it doesn't win games outright like corridor creeper did.
Might become much better when next rotation happens since of the lower power level these last expansion have had. Doesn't need a nerf imo but definitely very good.
My thinking exactly ~ I don't think it's strong enough to actually warrant a nerf but we might see it increased to 6 mana.

The thing is, giggling inventor is a great and much needed card for control decks to stop aggro decks. The problem is that due to it being 3 minions in one, aggro decks can use it as well.
Honestly Giggling right now just feels like Azure Drake used to feel. You include it in every deck not because it's absurdly strong or anything, but simply because there is no other good 5 drops. Out of all the 5 drops in standard in all classes, the only ones that actually see play are Wargear, Giggling, Zilliax, Subject 9 a little bit, Applebaum, Leeroy (used strictly as a finisher), Fungalmancer (only if you have a board), Scalebane (same as fungalmancer) and Dreadlord.
This leaves 9 five drop minions that see any form of play, out of all of them, 2 are pretty much only for mech decks (zilliax goes a bit out of mech, but not that great outside of it), 4 see play as 'finishing' cards in zoo, 1 pretty much isn't played in standard because it doesn't have a lot of supporting cards. This leaves applebaum, which only sees play in taunt druid, and Giggling. Giggling is the only 5 drop that can perform decently in all of these aforementioned decks. I don't think this means it needs a nerf, it just is so common because all the other minions don't perform as well.

I don't have something witty about this deck, I just like it because Malygos is fun.
No. A high inclusion rate doesn't mean the card is overpowered. It's just good in the meta right now. A high "win% when played" is also not necessarily indicative of a card needing a nerf. For example, in an aggressive meta in Wild, Reno Jackson (probably?) has a very high "win% when played" but that just indicates it's a strong card in that meta. In a much slower meta, Reno doesn't really impact games because you need a better endgame in order to win.

Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination.
Nope, its a balanced card. 4/5 in stats for 5 mana. The divine shield is a bonus, it isnt OP. Calls for nerfs often imho mean that someone cant play around a card. But thats why there are tech cards. At least one exists for this card, so play it.
I also think Giggling Inventor should cost (6). If anything, because it is NEUTRAL, and it is currently used in pretty much any archetype from Aggro to Combo. It just feels wrong to me.
(6) would grant that Aggro decks do not run it anymore, maybe Tempo decks at most.
As for the other decks, Control and Combo could still make use of it at (6), since they have recovery tools for lategame.

From vS:
Hope not, it's a nice and fun card.
Who cares about giggling. The card isn’t game breaking. You can pass by easily and it’s one of the only good card this expansion have.
Seems okay, but it's annoying

I'm pretty sure Fire Fly had a ridiculously high playrate at some point as well, but I think we can all agree that it doesn't need a nerf.

Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.

It should be nerfed. It's auto-include in most aggro and control decks. Like Azure Drake was. Like Bonemare was.
Increasing mana costs has always meant nerfing to me, unless there was some sort of mana scaling effect printed on the card.

If you are in your first year of playing please read this post.
Dust does not burn a hole in the jar. Be careful what you craft, especially before and right after a rotation.
this is the first time someone ask for a nerf to an entire expansion.
the end is coming
I guess we need at least SOMETHING to play from this expansion that actually includes mechs.

People are simply forget to tech in Blood Knight
If Giggling Inventor is really in every deck, then you not only remove all divine shields, you get a 3 mana 9/9 with it. That's not bad at all.

Also look at Spreading Plague and Call to Arms for some comparison, both class cards, while Giggling Inventor is neutral.
