Kel'Thuzad often just has a better and more immediate result from his presence, and while he is certainly a more late game card than Rivendare his excellent stat line nearly always forces drastic measures out of your opponent.
well KT does basicly what Baron does except better, u get minion back and u can trigger deathrattle for the second time too :) sure there is the mana cost point of view, but i dont think we r considering it in this case and even if, it wont help him win this duel :)
I've tried to get both of those cards to work in serious, ladder climbing decks. While both of them provided sub-par results compared to how "awesome" their card-text sounds, I found that Baron Rivendare was the one that worked the best. Simply because he is cheaper and more consistent than K.T.
The flaw with K.T. is that you HAVE to be ahead to get value out of the card text. Otherwise he is nothing but an overpriced big minion. Baron on the other hand is a decent card, even if the card text does nothing. (Which with Baron actually is rare, assuming you put it in a deck that supports it.)
Baron needs a bunch of Deathrattles and is a very situational drop. KT is almost always good unless you draw him with an empty board. It's an awkward comparison but I'll give an easy nod to KT in terms of power and combo ability.
Rivendale has a specific use. Which is better. Kel wins the arena trophy, but Rivendale is actually playable in the right deck. Kel is unnecessary. Kel does win the fun award though.

I've seen KT in Ramp Druid and Priest decks as a strong finisher. I think he sees more play at the upper tiers than Rivendale.
Kel'thu-freaking-zad! He's just such a bomb, turning your board into an impenetrable wall, as well as being BGH-proof. Baron Rivendare is but a joke in comparison. The amount of games I've won solely because my opponent lost tempo to cast Rivendare is kind off ridiculous.

Both cards encourage death and deathrattle cards, but which one is better?
Kel'Thuzad
Baron Rivendare
My vote is for K.T, as the power of minion suicide is insane, and even better when it can be done again.
On a quest to capture every zone in Azeroth into Hearthstone cards! Elwynn Forest, Redridge Mountains, Stranglethorn Vale and Northern Barrens!

Remind me to put something here later.

I really want Pirates to be a playable theme.
