I'll try it if i get a copy of it, not the best, but, at least this is the introduction of other ways to use the spell damage, so in the future we may see other cards that does it. it's interesting
Strange. Mage haven't always run much spell damage (Cult Sorcerer is gone, Black Cat is odd synergy), and something like Saronite Chain Gang is almost surely better if you don't have access to spell power. Playing, say, Bloodmage Thalnos with this is OK, two three drops for a total of 6 mana, but not super exciting. Meanwhile, any Mage deck which doesn't care much about low-cost minions probably doesn't want too many spells this low cost either.
In a world where Mages have better access to spell damage minions, I can see this being a sleeper good card. However, I just don't think Mages really have the support in terms of Spell Damage.
Now where Ben Brode is gone we finally get a good expansion with exciting cards.
so all the 12 DLCs that ben brode was in charge of were bad ones ?
also he said it at a video that he worked at the following 2 DLCs ( referring to this one and the next one ) so, he worked at the Booms Day project and the following one.
More casino cards, this is worse than Shredder imo i realy hope this wont see play in tempo mage. i could see it if there would be a decent spelldamge minion thought.
Most underrated card in this expansion, it's not meta defining, but it's far from bad. Meanwhile people go nuts over Demon project, a insanely worse version of Dirty rat.
Even if you ignore spell power bonus, you get slightly worse saronite chain gang. With apprentice you get Feral Spirit with no overload, so this card can be good in some new tempo mage build even without too much spell damage.
This card can be compared to hunter spellstone in design, and with enough spell power support printed it can be close in power level to it.
Downside is minions have to survive/be played together with it, but it has the benefit of being cheaper+being reduced in cost by primordial glyph/apprentice.
This card... it's really hard to tell how good it is right now.
But in the stream, they said this was the only card like this in the set. This doesn't necessarily mean there won't be any cards to support this, they might release some new Spell Power minions for Mage, or even neutral ones that are good enough to include in a deck. However, I don't see this happening. I might be making a bold statement here, but I think this card will turn out to be just terrible.
It seems incredibly inconsistent, and NOT ONLY because the minions are random, but also because you probably want to play this on curve, and getting a Spell Damage minion to stick on the board... it seems very unrealistic. Obviously this is from a Standard point of view, I don't really care much about trying to figure out the potential of this card in other modes right now.
While I think it might be playable in a world where this gets a surprising amount of support, as for design I hate this card with all of my heart.
I am really unhappy with the direction they've been trying to forcefully push Mage in lately. This... "Minion Mage" deck they seem to want to much. It just sounds unworldly boring and goes against what you expect from the class itself. It's LITERALLY called Mage.
Sure, you could play some other damage spells to abuse of your Spell Damage minions as much as possible, since obviously you won't always draw this card. But yeah... It still sounds very much like a worse version of Tempo Mage.
TL;DR: Might see play with a lot of support, design-wise it's interesting and unique but I personally hate it.
If Malygos stays alive one turn as a mage you have already won. You wouldnt even play this card the next turn because you would be too busy blasting their face with +5 spell damage.
I don't see how this is ever more than 2 random 3 drops for 4 mana. Chain Gang would be better 99% of the time because Taunt

Like the idea, unimpressed with it in practice.
Actually they claim to have two expansions worked on ahead of time so this will be the last one with Ben Brodes touch.

Playable but not good enough to see play
Arena experiences:
Strong tempo play on T3, after a T2 apprentice.
Aren't all spells magic? Might wanna revisit the title.. ;)
Edit: Fixed lol
ben brode influanced this expansion...
and next expansion too
they prepare 3 expansion advance
Malygos mage incoming.
This would be good if it was upgraded like a spellstone and not based on whats on the board. spell damage minions tend to not be that sticky.

i think this card can be REALLY GOOD.
if we get some support cards like battlecry: you have +1 spell power for the game.
this could be really good late game
This card seems good.
You do realize they develop between 2 to 4 expansions ahead of release right? So Ben Brode probably had his take on this expansion
Too bad this card doens't have an odd cost.. :/
Malygos seems thrilled
