I'm hoping it plays the same as alarm-o-bot or mindgames where there is no battlecry effect. If not, then I'll have to take it out lol
I agree for 5 mana I'd prefer it to not also have the Battlecry of the card I'm summoning.
Yeah, hopefully there's a clarification on the wording or on how Battlecry works. If not, then it's too random to be played. 5 mana for 2 damage that HAS to kill and then have your demon hit you hard with a negative Battlecry would be abysmal.
Bit weird though, cause if you use Bane of Doom to kill a hero, then well, you won't need to summon a demon as it's game over. So likely that they've just used the wrong wording on this particular card. It's not even beta, so they're excused and all :p

actually, it kinda makes sense... if you break the card down in to two parts: (a) Deals two damage to an enemy character (Minion or Hero) (b) If that kills it (deductive reasoning would imply "it = minion"), then summon a demon.
ps: That being said, you had better know what you are doing if you opt to use the card as 5 mana for 2 direct damage (to hero). Perhaps a nice finisher if you get your enemy hero down to 2 health, at which point the 5 mana = win.
I'm liking all the 'gamble' cards. Like Bane of Doom and Mindgames. It can either be worth the mana and help you, or it can totally backfire (especially Bane of Doom...you summon that Pit Lord its a life hit.)

We still don't know if they'll get battlecry or not. Hopefully not, because there's far too many negative battlecries that you wouldn't want if you weren't expecting. Doomguard can easily ruin your combo.

True. Its hard to imagine cards like that being used in serious play if battlecries were activated. Holy Wrath and Mindgames are 'gamble' cards that are still safe enough to play, though.

We actually have confirmation that battlecry effects only activate when the minion is played from your hand. I tweeted the Hearthstone twitter while Eric Dodds was answering questions live during the Live Fireside Duel; asking him this question and getting the following response.

Why does Bane of Doom say it deal's damage to a character? What is that even? Most say minion or hero, what is a character?
Character is any hero or minion

Warlock - Corruption. Just seems so powerful for the cost.
