I've played recruit hunter on and off since before the nerfs, but I don't run Houndmaster Shaw. I know that most lists include him now. For those that have him, how good is he in the list? I had the impression that it was more of a win-more card, but is he more than that?
Most of the time he is just a 4 drop - never really get around to do much with him - would say he is not essentiel for the deck, but a nice card to have depending on the situation.
Definitely not just a win-more card. At worse he's a 4 man 3/6 with soft taunt like twilight guardian. That's the same amount of stats as a chillwind yeti but with better distribution for a threat. Play him early on when the opponent doesn't have a clear on him and they are forced to spend an awkward turn clearing or risk a rushing oozling that pops itself soon after. Play him later with small minions as a catch-up mechanism to rush those minions in to clear board. Play him the turn you open your oozling to give the new recruit rush. He's a powerful legendary and well worth the craft. Also he's likely to show up again in any future hunter that isn't spell or face
Don't think he's required but he's proven worthwhile in the recruit Hunter deck. If your opponent doesn't/can't remove when he's dropped then his ability will wreak havoc on the board. It's been more beneficial than I would have suspected.
Houndmaster Shaw is great in the deck. He's so threatening on curve that it even forces aggro decks to remove or trade into him. Shaw also has great combo potential on turn 8. He turns Flanking Strike into a Fireball or a targettable Multi-Shot that can leave you with a minion left over. You can also play him with Saronite Chain Gang, and he works well with Lesser Emerald Spellstone if you run that variant. He's especially good in decks like this with Deathrattles, because if your Deathrattle minion survives, you can drop Shaw the next turn, trigger the Deathrattle and potentially give Rush to The Lich King, Kathrena Winterwisp, or Witchwood Grizzly
I recently packed golden shaw so wanted to use him in recruit hunter. I don’t have enough dust for King Krush so what should I replace him with?
You could try decklists with highmane or even violet wurm, but since they have deathrattles, they mess with seeping oozeling, so it's not the same recruit build. If you want to stick with the typical recruit hunter style, then there's no replacement. When you recruit a beast in such a build, it needs to meet two criteria:
1) Not have a deathrattle. Having a deathrattle would mess with Oozeling, since oozeling is meant to steal the deathrattle from Kathrena or Silver vangaurd.
2) Have an immediate effect on the board, whether this be through face damange/trading, or by creating a big taunt. So you want charge/rush/taunt.
Charged devilsaur is a essentially a charge minion when recruited, king krush is charge, and witchwood grizzly is a big taunt. If you are missing one of those, I guess Dire Frenzy could be teched as a beast buff that also grants you more beasts to recruit in case you run out.

I'd say type in Beast in HS's search button, see what beasts you have available and go with Highmane.
