The Worgen cards added in WW feel like the most completely useless cards and unique mechanic ever added in Hearthstone. I’ve never seen them played in anything resembling a competitive deck. And I can’t think of any other mechanic that was this useless.

Weel I dont know about you, but some cards are just not meant to be played in Constructed. But I do often draft Gilneas Royal Guard or Swift Messenger in Arena, where they're actually briliant.
They are good in Arena just because they have RUSH + divine shield in case of Gilnean Royal Guard
But the swapping mechanis almost feels as an downside on cards wich you just want to use as a removal spell, cause you have to wait till they are swapped to bigger Attack.
WHY ARE THE CARDS RELEASED IN A NEW SET NEVER IMPACTFUL UNTIL LATER SETS BABYRAGE

Look, I want to tell you something because you're very dear to me. And I hope you understand that it comes from the bottom of my damaged, damaged heart. You are the finest piece of ass I've ever had and I don't care who knows it. I am so glad that I got to roam those hillsides.
reasonable picks in arena, also there's like what, 5 of them? Not like they wasted a huge part of the expansion so I'm just assuming they realised that mechanic wasn't going to take off at any point.
In terms of constructed, yeah, the Worgen stat flip was pretty bad. But we always have access to everything and don't have to rely on janky combos.
Arena-wise, though, I can at least see them having more usefulness. Particularly Gilnean Royal Guard. Big, rushy and divine shielded? That's arena gold.

A never-Legend Dad who keeps making rank 2 or 1, but then sliding.
Rumbling around Gurubashi Arena. Shirvallah is the best loa. Go Tigers!
I don't think the mechanic itself is garbage, but the cards are. The flexibility of those cards is often not enough of an upside.
I think this. Flipping stats really isn't that impactful. I think if the card flipped purposes (e.g. good stats vs. worse stats, but an effect like taunt or charge) then it would be more interesting.
if you consider the Worgen cards as the filler of the expansion, the mechanic was actually successful in its true purpose, making the basic filler cards more interesting.
No shit swapping attack and health in your hand is going to be a boring mechanic, with little competitive use. But it makes the typical boring cards of the expansion LESS BORING.
There are much worse, less thought-through mechanics in Hearthstone, such as Joust.

I agree with this. I see the swap mechanic as something less-impactful and experimental on purpose. It allowed Blizzard to use "filler" slots in the expansion to try out something new, and see how the game reacts to something like that. It could just be a small flavorful mechanic designed only to make the witchwood theme stand out, or something blizzard was looking at to see how they could incorporate elsewhere.
I truly believe this wasn't something Blizzard was intending to even in design phase, to make a huge splash, it's just another minor touch added to cards to make the game just that slightly bit more fresh.
It's more so I can see what they were going for and I personally think it's a good mechanic but the timing of the way they change just sucks ass. I think the shifting mechanic is actually good just the timing is horrid.

Yeap exactly that because what form is optimal to be played will always depend on your opponent's board & deck and when the optimal form is purely dictated by draw and randomised out of your control timing then yes. You're fucked :3

The issue for me is that the cards always felt very heavy to have in your hand or deck. The effect is one of those things where it sounds cool but in practice it's not very interactive, and often just leads to being annoying to have. Whenever I think of a stat flipping card I don't feel "wow, this is a shapeshifting worgen" instead I just think "meh, the numbers are going to turn around constantly, out of my control, and it's going to feel annoying / never actually feel like a good time to play them"
I think part of it is that it's a poor attempt to capture the flavor of worgen as well. Worgen should be one of those things that feels fast and ambushy - one second it's a human, suddenly it's a pouncing worgen. Maybe I just got false expectations from Greymane in HotS, but when you have an effect like this that just changes basic stats every turn it's more of just a technical calculation that somewhat fits the theme rather than an actual pounce-y flavor.
I personally think that the hofriders would work as a tech way better than the aforementioned worgen cards. If you can make a nice trade or have a silence, then this is 5 damage to the face. 6 mana hogrider would come afterwards as a counter to combo/control decks, which the current meta is based of (the 4 mana one is pure garbage). Imho if those cards were still in standard, some aggro decks would have found a slot for them. Tempo mage would theoretically cut the mosquito for a Hogrider 5.

Arguably on the same level with inspire!

Even there, Murloc knight and Thunderbluff Valiant were played at least.

I tried having fun once. It was awful.

It's certainly not the worst mechanic in hearthstone. It's not good for competitive constructive play, but that's only one part of Hearthstone.
I use the 1/4 or 4/1 spell dmg 2 drop in a control yogg rogue deck in wild. it's pretty fun. But typically i just rather always have a 1/4.
Fun > Meta

i mean we have five expansions to come maybe its going to be the best mechanic ever.
For example theres a mechanic that gives them huge buffs , idk.
I mean no one uses them at the moment . I mean who used Hadronox before taunt druid.

Everybody, get in here!
If you are going to consider a few themed cards a mechanic... then the Gadgerzan Hogriders are worse.
imho Spiked Hogrider >>>>>>>>> Pumpkin Peasant or Duskhaven Hunter

Way better than joust.
