I know Lesser Diamond Spellstone and its upgraded versions says resurrect (x) different minions, but can anyone explain why this happened:
1st game: I Psionic Probe for a Lost in the Jungle. I was going against an Odd Pally and needed to the Spellstone to revive my soldiers but only one returned to play.
2nd game: I play Dragon Soul and make two different Dragon Spirits. They both die and when I play the Spellstone again, only one returns.
In both cases, the Spellstones didn't revive their max numbers (so I could have brought them back). What's going on here? How can Shadow Essence work to bring back multiple copies yet summoning two different minions (with the same name, both on the board at the same time) not?
I assume it's not a bug, rather it's "by design" but if that's the case... can someone help my understand why?
It's different by name. Not different by number. Any token shares the same name as other tokens. So, you only get one token during the rez.
Then why can I resurrect multiple Prophet Velen's? I'm not disagreeing with any of you that posted, and agree spamming one minion would be ugly/broken. I just don't understand why it works for one and not the other.
It's simple: because Velen and Malygos exists. You could theoretically have a deck with 28 spells and 2 minions in wild (ok, 3 with Barnes), and you could resurrect then 4 Prophet Velen or 4 Malygos. In either case, you have then a pretty broken combo with a mind blast.

It's by design, because there might be broken combos if you were allowed to spam one minion
Shadow essence doesn't say anything about "different" minions
Legend with : S65 Freeze Mage, S57 Maly Gonk Druid, S57 "Okay" Shaman, S53 Boom-zooka Hunter, S53 Maly Tog Druid, S52 Wild Tog Druid ft.Blingtron, S50 Quest Rogue, S49 Dead Man's Warrior, S41 Wild Clown Fiesta Druid, S41 Hadronox Jade Druid, S40 Wild OTK Dragon Druid, S35 SMOrc Shaman, S33 Jade Druid, S22 Control Priest, S19 Control Priest

Because big priest is a thing and no one want to see 4 Obsidian Statue for 7 mana nor 4 rags in wild.

You shouldn't be able to? Maybe you're thinking of a different card. But, if Velen dies 4 times, you'll only get 1 velen.
"Different" meaning different named minions.
Edit: can you show proof you didnt combo spellstone with vivid nightmare to get multiple copies of the same named minion.
Maybe I'm misremembering. In which case, my B.
^_^
I know Eternal Servitude will let you discover the same minion. Time to go play a game or two and confirm.
Because you literally can't. The combo decks that you're referring to plays Diamond Spellstone, resing 1 Prophet Velen, 1 Radiant Elemental, then you play Eternal Servitude and/or Vivid Nightmare the same turn to fetch your second velen for the OTK

The source of my confusion was thinking that each instance of a minion was "a different minion". I get it now. Thanks!
