Hydro can be played in OTK pala but it synergies very poorly with Call to Arms. Most OTK lists that I see on Stream, and those that seem to perform the best, rather play 1 or 2 Blessing of Wisdom and no Hydrologist.
If they print another very good secret this expension it could change though ! And they might since we are loosing one and they print the Bellringer thing at 4 mana.
Thinking about secrets in standard this has a very high chance of getting explosive runes every time at least that or counterspell will almost always be an option. This card will cause a lot of salt.
This is perfect for minion only mage decks - still lets you "run" spells. And discover is WAAAAAAYY better than any pre-selected secret - can tailor for matchups and surprise opponents.
I voted "Playable" cuz of the high mana cost. If it was 3 mana for example - it would have been very good, especially in wild. But in standard - where the mage has been pushed towards minion/elemental deck - I don't think 4 mana 2/2 is worthy.

The best thing is, even with open deck lists, enemy doesnt know what you picked so he has to play around basically every secret, which is a big hidden value of this card-.
mad scientist is one of the strongest cards ever printed, this card is not even close to mad scientist lel
You sure about that? Let see...
Mad scientist cost 2 is 2/2 deathrattle put a secret from your deck in play, no one dare to deny this card is insanely good, good early game, deck thining effect, good for combo decks want the Ice Block in play but don't want to draw it and trades good for the cost.
But you look to forgot some details here...
1- You have to spend slots in your deck to work, a least 2 slots for Mad Scientist + 4 slots for secrets, if you cut secrets many times you don't put anything because the first one you play already do or you draw the secrets before the minion die, this new one don't need to spend any additional slot to work and the effect never fails don't matter the stage of the game.
2- Mad scientist can be silenced/transformed/stolen and you don't get the benefits, this new one opponent can't deny the effect.
3- If you put more than one type of secret in your deck you can't control the outcome, you can put a counterspell when need so much a Ice Barrier or a Ice Barrier in a situation only Ice Block can save you, this new one discover one secret, that means it is much more versatile and adapt for the situation, even bad secrets like destroy the attacker can be better than any other in specific circunstances.
I think this new one is better than Mad scientist for a very little margin, but keep in mind, this is a class card and mad scientis is a neutral.
So originally I voted playable because the card seemed fair. Secret support is getting kicked to the curb so even the best secrets aren't going to be quite as powerful anymore. However, I think this card might actually be insane. For general use purposes, explosive runes and counterspell are the only two secrets that are reliable enough to be played in the standard pool, but in certain matchups or situations, ice barrier, mirror entity, spellbender, and the like can all produce even better results. Catching a spell bender against spikeridged steed is game winning and ice barrier can give you just enough time against aggro to pull out a win.
I think some people are missing the key part of this card that it also plays the secret. It’s a secret + 2/2 body. And the secret discover pool is just so small so it’s relatively reliable.
pretty good card. You might think kirintor mage is 1 mana cheaper and 1+ mana better in stats but keep in mind that costs an extra card which is worth about 2 mana (a card is worth about 2 1/2 mana).
It's easy to forget that Mage secrets are mostly overcosted if they're not cheated out in some way. I don't think that slapping a 2/2 on a secret for 1 additional mana is going to change their viability. That said, it's an okay card, it might see play depending on the meta (Mage secrets are best against midrange and minion-based control) and which other options Mage has on turn 4.
The big advantage this card has is that you may not be stuck with a secret that's terrible against your matchup, due to the discover, and your opponent will be left guessing. The downside is that you also might not be able to find the optimal secret for your matchup, such as Ice Barrier against an aggro deck. So I think that in a meta where decks play on curve with bigger and bigger minions, which many Mage secrets are great at countering, then this will be quite good. You'll consistently get an answer to these decks, and against decks where these anti-midrange secrets are bad (such as against aggro) you have more flexibility. It won't be good at all when the majority of your discover options will be bad against the most common matchups. In those cases it will be better to just run the specific secret you need, or not run secrets at all.

Ice Block HoF, potion secret rotates for Wild and this expansion don't bring any new secret, the odds for discover Explosive Runes is high (when not a CounterSpell is far from terrible).
Think this minion is 4 manas 2/2 Battlecry give 6 damage and all your concerns will vanish.
If next expansion bring bad secrets to the pool this card can be weakened, for now is amazing in any agressive mage deck.
No, if can they fail after battlecry because you can't have 2 of same secret, so you don't choose them, very unlikely you get 3 options already in the game.

kinda weak body, even Counterspell or Spellbender not worth it to protect this 2/2 on board.
Also pretty high mana cost, potentialy bad when playing elementals on curve.
Discover option is what makes it strong

Absurdly good card.
Will se play in any kind of mage, especially in wild due to hated ice block !
I do think this card is meta defining and two times better than MS. It can save your ass lategame while MS can't

So, Iceblock died for this. Better be good...

can you discover secrets that already in play?
Does it work with Open the Waygate? Is this secret casted?
